Yihao Kuaiche claims “Not-for-profit”

Yihao Kuaiche

Yihao Kuaiche

Didi Dache and Kuaidi Dache, China’s recently merged taxi-hailing startups, have entered the next phase of their business.

Yesterday the companies announced they will roll out a low-cost service called Yihao Kuaiche in 61 cities.

Curiously, Yihao Kuaiche isn’t accessible as a standalone app, nor is it tucked inside Kuaidi or Didi’s existing apps.

Instead, users who download Yihao Zhuanche, an app that was once Kuaidi’s answer to UberBlack, will spot the new service at the very top of its vehicle listings.

As domestic media has reported, Yihao Kuaiche claims to operate on “Not-for-profit” model, wherein the passenger only pays for the cost of the ride, and the startup takes no cut from the transaction.

Users can pay for trips using Alipay, the Alibaba-affiliated payment service, or through bank transfer.

The service was originally launched in seven pilot cities two weeks ago, but yesterday marked its official rollout – welcomed by none other than Martin Luther King Jr. Yihao Kuaiche bears a strong resemblance to The People’s Uber – Uber’s “Not-for-profit” ridesharing service, which is currently in seven cities across China.

At the moment, the People’s Uber is actually priced slightly lower than Yihao Kuaiche.

Don’t think for a second that Kuaidi and Didi won’t find all sorts of ways to make their service even cheaper.

We’ve reached out to Kuaidi to ask for more information about what types of drivers are eligible to join Yihao Kuaiche.

Ridesharing remains in a legal grey-area in China, but compared to other countries, government agencies haven’t acted as swiftly.

Regardless, Uber, Kuaidi, and Didi’s embrace of a “Not-for-profit” model shows they’re nevertheless treading carefully.

While peer-to-peer ridesharing services like UberX and Lyft have dominated US cities like San Fracisco and Washington DC, in China, the densest ride-hailing networks center around taxis.

Ridesharing startups have made headlines in Chinese media.

Baidu invested in two ridesharing firms, Tiantian Yongche and 51yongche.

The search giant also disclosed an investment in Uber last December.

COCA-COLA

Coca-Cola is a carbonated soft-drinks sold in stores, restaurants, and vending machines throughout the world. It is produced by The Coca-Cola Company of Atlanta, Georgia and is often referred to simply as Coke (a registered trademark of The Coca-Cola Company in the United States since March 27, 1944).

9 Coca-Cola need-to-know 9 Coca-Cola need-to-know – Now, we all know that Coca-Cola is meant for drinking but funny enough it does not end there. There are a lot of other things we could use the awesome drink for. Sugary drinks aren’t allowed in all households these days, but even the most health-conscious of folks can find a few reasons to keep a can of Coke around the house. Did you know Coke could help you do the dishes? How about cleaning your laundry with cola? Would you try Coke to clean your car battery? These are only a few alternative uses for Coca-Cola. If you need more excuses to stock this classic soda in your home, read on!

9 Coca-Cola need-to-know;

Eliminate Oil Stains

9 Coca-Cola need-to-know When car oil drips onto driveways and garage floors, it leaves its leaves an unsightly stain that’s tough to remove with ordinary cleansers. That’s where a little Coke comes in handy. Pour a liberal amount of cola over the stain, let it bubble and soak for an hour, then hose clean.

Car Care

9 Coca-Cola need-to-know Coke can be used to clean car battery terminals; the slight acidity does not react with battery acid so you can pour it over the battery and let it wash away corrosion. Coke also can be used to defrost a frozen windshield, and a liberal amount of cola poured over the windshield and bumper can help remove bugs and road debris (always rinse with plain water to avoid damaging the car’s paint job.) 9 Coca-Cola need-to-know.

Pest Control

9 Coca-Cola need-to-know A small bowl of Coke will attract slugs and snails; the acid in the Coke will kill them. A cup of Coke also can be used to lure wasps, which then drown in the liquid. You also can get rid of an ant hill by liberally dousing the area with Coke.

Boost Beneficial Bacteria

9 Coca-Cola need-to-know Coke can help improve your compost pile. Add one can of soda per week to your compost; the sugar in the cola feeds beneficial microorganisms, and the cola increases the acidity of the pile, helping material decay faster.

9 Coca-Cola need-to-know. This is getting more interesting and captivating. Keep reading…

A “Fizzy” For Your Toilet Bowl

9 Coca-Cola need-to-know Toilet bowls can get downright disgusting, filled with unsightly stains under the rims and around the bowl. Make an unpleasant cleaning chore easier by pouring a can of Coke right into the toilet. Let stand for an hour before scrubbing with a stiff brush. The carbonation will “fizz” through the toughest grime, leaving you with a sparkling clean bowl.

Rust Buster

9 Coca-Cola need-to-know Maybe you’ve heard that Coca-Cola is great at removing rust. The hype is true; the phosphoric acid in a can of Coke means that with an overnight soak you can remove rust from metal with ease. Simply submerge the item in a tray of Coke, then scrub clean with a stiff brush in the morning. 9 Coca-Cola need-to-know.

Burnt Offerings

9 Coca-Cola need-to-know If your oven grates and baking sheets have seen better days, you don’t have to toss them and buy new. Instead, try letting them soak in an overnight Coke bath. The chemicals in the cola will loosen all of the burnt-on bits, allowing you to scrub away most of the blackened areas and save you from replacing these costly items.

Copper Cleaner

9 Coca-Cola need-to-know Copper-bottomed are great for conducting heat, but they lose their luster with use. Restore their bright sheen by soaking the copper part in a pan filled with Coke for about an hour. The acid in the Coke makes the copper look shiny and new—without scrubbing. This cleaning trick works on plenty other household copper accents, as well.

9 Coca-Cola need-to-know.

Grease Be Gone!

9 Coca-Cola need-to-know Maybe it’s time to give Coke a place in your laundry room. The soda makes an effective pre-soak treatment and stain remover for grease spots in your laundry. For best results, apply to fresh stains. If the spot discolors slightly when you pour on the Coke, that’s a sign it is working. Let the liquid sit for a few minutes, and then launder as usual in the warmest water recommended for the garment.

Wow! I know right? I was equally surprised when I found out about these 9 Coca-Cola need-to-know. So, why will Coca-Cola not keep being the best in the world.

Knowledge is Power and these 9 Coca-Cola need-to-know will help you with a lot of domestic problems and chores. I am sure you are glad you read about the 9 Coca-Cola need-to-know .

microsoft versus microorganismsMicrosoft versus Germ-Infested Smartphone Screen

Microsoft battles Microorganisms. Your smartphone is a dirty little thing. If scientists swabbed that awful brick for germs, they might find some of these nasty things and, sadly, almost definitely the last one: E.coli, staphylococcus aureus, streptococcus, yeast and fecal matter. And, shoot, that’s just the short list, guys.

Microsoft versus Microorganisms.

It’s a vicious cycle. You touch your phone dozens of times a day at least, maybe even hundreds. And the germs you come into contact with from everything you paw between phone zone sessions — doorknobs, dollars, elevator buttons, toilet seats, etc. — get all over you and, inevitably, all over your precious phone, too. Yuck.

Microsoft versus MicroorganismsDisinfectant wipes are a decent temporary solution, but they can’t kill all bacteria and viruses all of the time. (Microsoft versus Microorganisms) And flimsy screen protectors are a pain to put on and typically don’t last very long. The bugs wins, whatever you do.

Microsoft knows this, and feels your heebie-jeebies and wants to make it all better so it is the War of M – Microsoft versus Microorganisms. Hopefully 99.9% better. Last week the tech giant briefly blogged about its new patent for a UV light system that it says could automatically disinfect mobile device touchscreens — and apparently even your fingertips as well.

Microsoft versus Microorganisms.

The potential antimicrobial cleaning system would be centered around a UV and visible light transparent film material that would go onto or in touchscreen-equipped devices. “UV light is emitted from a UV light source into an edge of the transparent film material in order to transfer the UV light through the transparent film material while remaining in the transparent film material through total internal reflection effect,” the patent reads, per the April 10 Microsoft blog post. “Some UV light exits the transparent film material at points of contact to disinfect fingertips and immediate surrounding areas through the frustrated total internal reflection effect.”

Microsoft versus Microorganisms

Microsoft versus Microorganisms.

We hope Microsoft moves forward with the fresh initiative. It could offer a nice, simple solution to a really disgusting problem, one that most of us would rather not think about and are too lazy to properly deal with on our own. Too bad the auto-cleaning system would probably only be available for the company’s own touchscreen gizmos, like Microsoft Surface tablets and Microsoft Lumia smartphones, as hinted at in the blog post.

I am gonna get me a nice Microsoft gadget to put this to test when they are done. Microsoft versus Microorganisms.

Dodgers, R/GA unveiled Accelerator

Years ago, it might have seemed strange for a professional sports team to be in the technology startup business – but not any more.

Other sports teams may well take a page from the Los Angeles Dodgers playbook and begin funding their own accelerator programs to encourage startups focused on media, advertising, fan experience, and other key areas of the pro sports business.

This week, the Dodgers and agency R/GA unveiled the LA Dodgers Accelerator with R/GA, which will target promising new companies fostering innovation in the pro sports business.

The accelerator program will provide 10 chosen start-ups with access to the Dodgers’ industry partners and distribution channels and speed production of new products, services, brand spinoffs, and customer experiences intended to boost fan engagement – and with it team revenues.

According to the Dodgers and R/GA, the 10 companies selected to participate in the accelerator program will include both early-stage start-ups working on entirely new products and later-stage companies that have already achieved some initial success and are seeking to scale up rapidly.

Areas of focus for the start-up accelerator program include sponsor integration, fan engagement and fan relationship management, “eSports,” smart arenas, big data and analytics, fitness and youth sports, and sports training, among others.

The program is the latest in a series of combined business-civic initiatives set in motion by the Dodgers’ new owners as they seek to burnish the team’s reputation and relations with its host city.

The consortium, led by basketball star-turned-business mogul Magic Johnson and former baseball exec Stan Kasten, acquired the team from the previous owner, Frank McCourt, for $2 billion in 2012.

The team’s image had suffered badly under McCourt, whose alleged mismanagement and greed had earned him various unflattering sobriquets, including “The most hated man in Los Angeles” and “The most hated man in baseball.” The new owners have been working steadily since the acquisition to repair relations with the fans and wider community.

Blackbox farm chose only female founders

BlackBox

Blackbox

BlackBox is a leading technology solutions provider dedicated to helping customers build, manage, optimize, and secure their IT infrastructure.

Blackbox, an intensive mentorship program for international startups, is trying something new: It chose only female-led companies for its next 12-startup, Google-sponsored, two-week residential course later this month.

There are a lot of good answers, drawn from research and observation, like the chronic under-representation of women in tech, or a report from Illuminate Ventures that claims that women-led startups make better use of their cash and have 12% higher revenues than the average.

BlackBox

The one reason that stands paramount, says Blackbox founder Fadi Bishara, is that female founders care more.

The best, most successful startups emerge when the founders are really passionate about the work they’re doing.

The way the Blackbox program works hasn’t changed much over the last four years it’s been in operation.

Take a bunch of startups from around the globe, pack them into a house in Palo Alto, California – the heart of Silicon Valley – for two weeks at a time, and give them training, tools, mentorships, and the critical introductions to valuable connections like recruiters and investors they will need to succeed.

Given that international focus, with companies drawn from more than 50 countries, Blackbox takes the inclusion of many viewpoints and cultures as a priority, says Bishara.

Half of all Blackbox participants have been women overall, Bishara says.

This so-called Blackbox Connect Female Founders Edition is the first program that will be entirely women.

Thanks to the sponsorship of the Google for Entrepreneurs program, their Blackbox fees are all taken care of, plus they get a solid day of mentorship at Google’s Mountain View headquarters.

The actual startups are in pretty diverse fields, from art education to e-commerce to mental health to adtech.

One founder, Tatiana Birgisson, won Google’s own startup Demo Day recently with her company Mati Energy, which has a proprietary energy drink formula she came up with while suffering a bout of depression during her time as a student at Duke University.

By living in that house together, Bishara says, the founders get to draw on each other’s “Rich knowledge” and become better businesspeople and leaders.

From Bishara’s standpoint, focusing on female founders is both a canny business move, since “‘overlooked’ is a great place to focus on,” as well as a professionally fulfilling one.

“It’s valuable to really see hungry and talented people getting great value,” Bishara says.

Android 5.0 Lollipop Review

Android 5.0 Lollipop Review: Smartphone Edition

Google’s new Nexus 6 is officially available, and along with that comes Android 5.0 Lollipop, the latest version of Google’s mobile OS. It has already been accessible to those who’ve had a chance to experience the Nexus 9 tablet by HTC, but the Motorola-made Nexus 6 is the first smartphone to ship with Google’s latest OS. While much of what using the tablet version of the software is like is the same as what we find on the Nexus 6, the experience of using both kinds of devices is very different, so this launch merits a second, closer look at Lollipop in detail.

The Android 5.0 Lollipop: Design

Lollipop is a visual treat, perhaps moreso on the smartphone as compared to the tablet. The animations, layering and simple but bold palette all shine here, and elements like the drop-down notification interface with transparency effects seem to have been designed with smaller screen in mind first, as good as they do manage to look on the larger Nexus 9. On both the smaller-screened 5, and the Nexus 6 (which is well into phablet territory), Android 5.0 represents a huge accomplishment for Google and for mobile design in general.

On the Nexus 6, some of the excellent design touches include the way the notification tray expands and recedes, and the way it can selectively show individual content like screenshots or minimize them to provide a better overview of all your notices at once. A long pull will reveal additional quick settings, replacing the tap away mechanism used in earlier versions of Android.

android-5-notification-tray

Another nice touch, in addition to system animations like the app drawer expanding from a bubble into view, which provides a sense of continuity between the home screen and Android’s traditional home for all installed software, are the animations that take effect when any app is opened. Apps now slide up from the bottom of the screen, with a very subtle layering effect that, once again, helps to create a sense of continuity between Android’s home screen and the software that runs on top of it.

Overall, Lollipop’s design, from the new, gapless keys on the software keyboard, to the blooming fields of shading that emanate from taps to show you an input was received, just screams continuity, and it replaces the often cobbled-together (albeit effective) aesthetic of past versions with something much more approaching a cohesive, unified experience. Android is often criticized for fragmentation, but with Lollipop, it feels very much like Google is doing its best to answer those criticisms in the very building blocks of the visual language that makes up its entire mobile OS.

tap-animations

Android 5.0 Lollipop: Features

Some of the key features of the Android 5.0 Lollipop on the Nexus 6 reveal themselves before you even unlock the device. Motorola has some special features in store, like the ambient display that will show you notifications and time in a pale black, white and grey display that consumes very little battery energy. You can wake this to full power when you tap a notification or press the power button, and that’s when you get the new Android 5.0 lock screen, which features at-a-glance notifications.

Android’s native lock screen notifications have taken a long time to arrive, but they’re very well executed now that they are here. Each provides you with a time stamp, a brief description and the icon of the app in question, or else a preview of the content in the case of media files like screenshots. Notifications pop forward and expand in size when tapped once (another of Lollipop’s excellent visual flourishes) and a second tap will open that app or content directly (once you successfully unlock). Some categories of notifications, like those flagging messages, let you respond directly from the lock screen, which is very useful. Screen notifications can also be selectively dialled back for a less visually cluttered experience, or turned off entirely.

wake-notifications

Another nice benefit of the new lock screen is that it shows you the time remaining before a full charge when you’re plugged in, without requiring that you add a widget or set up anything else. Lock screen widgets are in fact gone altogether, which might strike some users as a negative, but they simplify the experience overall, and lock screen widgets were never actually that useful in my opinion anyway. Google did the right thing by axing them, because the trade-off is an experience that once again offers more consistency, and in this case the cost in terms of customisability is definitely an easy one to justify.

On the Nexus 6, always-on voice prompts using the trigger phrase “Okay Google” work like a charm, even when the device is unplugged, locked and with the screen inactive. On the Nexus 5, you need to at least activate the display to trigger the “Okay Google” command, as well as enable the option to use it from the lock screen in settings, but it’s still a big help when trying to quickly access services.

Best Of The New

Among my favourite new features in Android L on the Nexus 9 was Smart Lock, and the ability to use paired devices to act as trusted security keys, bypassing the need to enter a pin to unlock your device when those trusted gadgets were within range and connected. On a smartphone, it’s even more of a convenience feature.

smartlock

The reason Smart Lock shines so well here is that with a smartphone, you tend to be using it in different settings much more often – where a tablet is often a stationary use device, a smartphone goes with you everywhere, and isn’t just living inside a backpack much of that time. So, adding a pair of Bluetooth headphones will make it so that it’s easy unlocked while you’re checking your workout progress at the gym, while keeping it locked down on your commute where it might be a target for thieves.

The recent apps multitasking switcher is another highlight. It’s a much more usable interface than what came before, with a scrollable rolodex that doesn’t leave you feel like you have to travel miles to find apps that you opened early on in the queue.

switching

Finally, the Android 5.0 Lollipop brings back full access to SD card storage for apps, which was taken away in KitKat. This means you can shuttle apps between internal an expansion storage, should you have a phone that supports microSD, and you can also use them to store media data from apps, like songs stored for offline use. To make up for the security window that potentially opens, Google has compensated by beefing up production around microSD as a route for malicious software.

What’s Not So Great

Android 5.0 Lollipop is mostly great, but there are some issues that mar the experience to a degree. Software bugs persist, including the occasional failure of a device to recognize a trusted Smart Lock paired gadget and thus bypass manual lock screen passcode entry. Also, the design of the new soft keys, while beautiful, reduces the amount of information they convey, which could make it hard for new users to find their footing.

I’m also not crazy about the way some features have been relocated, including the ability to change volume to vibration or silent. These aren’t housed under the menu’s quick settings panel, but instead are managed from a new interface with expanded options that pops up when you hit the volume key. It might be more intuitive if you’re coming to Android fresh, but it still seems out-of-place to me.

Bottom Line

Android is really taking a big leap forward with Lollipop – the 5.0 launch brings lots to love in terms of design and usability. On a smartphone, its advantages over previous releases are even more pronounced, which is great because this is where most users will encounter the new OS. Is Android 5.0 a release that’s strong enough to switch platforms for? That’ll depend on how much you wanted to do so to begin with, but it’s easily the best release of Android thus far. What will really make the difference will be seeing how developers use the new tools available in Android 5.0, as well as the new guiding design principles, to really elevate the state of Android software in general.

It Really Does Pay To Be Nice

It Really Does Pay to Be Nice – Growing Research Links Friendship and Success.

It really does pay to be nice, you know? If you’ve read your share of popular business books over the past few years, you’re probably familiar with the following suggestions for improving your performance at work.

Focus on the important, not the urgent. Cultivate smarter habits. Resist multitasking.

Manage your energy, not your time.

Now, here’s another piece of advice that’s equally essential, though rarely dispensed:

Invest in building close workplace friendships.

Studies suggest that feeling close to our colleagues is essential to being effective at work.

It really does pay to be nice.

Now, let’s face it: Many of us have a hard time taking the importance of colleague friendships seriously. After all, close workplace relationships are often a source of gossip, favoritism and distraction. It’s also easy to confuse friends at the office with a lack of professionalism, or the notion of fooling around.

But studies suggest that’s exactly the wrong way to think about what happens when we’re working with friends. In fact, many scientists now believe it’s impossible to perform at our best unless we feel connected to others. It really does pay to be nice

Here’s why.

When we feel connected to our colleagues, we can pay less attention to whether or not we’re fitting in and direct our full attention to actually doing our work. We experience less anxiety in the face of setbacks and perceive greater support from those around us. We’re also more willing to ask for help when we need it, which gives us more resources for achieving our goals.

Still not convinced? (It really does pay to be nice) Then consider what happens when people feel isolated from their colleagues on a daily basis. They experience loneliness, which can have a crippling effect on the human body, beyond regular work hours. Lonely people have more stress hormones coursing through their bloodstream, take longer to relax and struggle falling asleep. That is why extended bouts of loneliness can bring about memory and learning deficits.

It really does pay to be nice

To build closer friendships with your colleagues, consider these three tips, based on the research on lasting friendships:

Search for similarity.

Studies show that similarity is a basic building block of human friendship. Here’s how you can put that insight to use: Strike up conversations about common interests you share with colleagues. Anything from rooting for the same sports team, binge-watching the same television show, or raising kids that are around the same age. Research shows that the more colleagues talk about non-work topics, the more likely they are to be friends. It really does pay to be nice.

Find areas of common struggle.

Look for collaborative assignments where you and your colleagues need each other to succeed. It’s easier to connect with coworkers when it’s clear you’re both on the same side and neither one of you can get the job done alone.

Build friendships in the spaces between work.

It really does pay to be nice.

Workplace friendships don’t happen in the conference room. They emerge in the spaces between work, before and after team meetings, in the office kitchen, or on the walk to the subway or parking lot.

Now, what if you’re a freelancer or business owner who spends all day working alone? Are you destined to under-perform because you lack close workplace friends? Not necessarily. Here are three tips for expanding your network and avoiding the loneliness trap:

Meet your competitors.

It really does pay to be nice. It seems counter-intuitive, but chances are you have a lot in common with rivals. After all, you’re both doing the same for a living.

Meeting informally (say, for coffee) can be surprisingly fruitful on a personal level and almost certainly valuable on a professional level. It may lead to a referral in the future, and is likely to get you thinking of new business ideas.

Grow your friends network.

Carlin Flora, author of Friendfluence, describes friends of friends as the “low-hanging fruit” of a budding network. Your future friends are probably not people you don’t know at all, but rather people you currently know indirectly. Inviting a distant contact for a cup of coffee or lunch might feel temporarily awkward to you but is likely to be perceived as flattering by the recipient.

It really does pay to be nice.

Find an interactive hobby.

We tend to form close relationships when we’re doing things in the company of others. Consider signing up for a new class, or join a club that specializes in an activity you currently enjoy. All the better if it involves physical exercise. Studies show that exercise can lift your mood, improve your creativity and boost your memory, benefiting your work in more ways than one.

Ultimately, how you choose to pursue closer friendships is a matter of personal preference. The important thing to remember is this: All work all the time does not make you a more productive. Quite the opposite, it may, in fact, be the very thing holding you back.

My dear readers, to achieve full blown and effective effort from yourself, your colleagues and your business partners you have to play nice. It really does pay to be nice.

secretTHE SECRET LIFE OF WILSON LOVE Episode 3

‘The Secret Life Of Wilson Love III’ is the continuation of ‘THE SECRET LIFE OF WILSON LOVE II‘, the episode before this, where we established that secrets are often controversial, depending on its content or nature, the group or people keeping the secret, and the motivation for secrecy.

It can be amazing sometimes how one person make your life take a U-turn. How a person can pack his or her belongings and lodge in your heart even when not invited. Wilson just had a recent break up and had promised himself that he wouldn’t have anything to do with another girl for a long time. He even told his cousin that he’d give him the sum of two thousand and five hundred naira if he ever falls for another girl. He was hurt deeply and didn’t want a repetition because that was his fourth break up in six years. The Secret Life of Wilson Love.

Funny enough, as we all know life has a way of kicking you from behind. Wilson woke up the next day after meeting Nneoma and just couldn’t get her off his mind. (The Secret Life of Wilson Love.) He had called her the previous night as promised but all he got was call forwarding. He got ready for work as usual and told himself that he will keep the girl off his mind.

Please bear with me that I haven’t disclosed the secrets yet.secret This is a true life story I made up, remember. The Secret Life of Wilson Love.

It actually worked, the determination to concentrate on work, it worked for just 15 minutes because as he got to the office he found himself dialing her number again and again. It still gave him the same report of call forwarding then it dawned on him; ‘she must have given me a wrong number, how could I be so stupid as to want to break the promise I made to myself and risk my heart getting broken again. I need to focus on this teaching practice and think of a way to succeed in life as a young fellow’.

The Secret Life of Wilson Love. He spoke to himself but his soliloquy was cut short by his colleague, Richard. Richard taught the class next to Wilson’s. The teaching practice had made them so close that they told each other almost everything.

Richard looked intensely at the distant look on his friend’s face and asked him what the matter was. Wilson, still depressed, forced a smile and narrated the previous evening’s happenings to his friend and colleague. Richard listened keenly then began laughing. The Secret Life of Wilson Love.

He laughed so hard that tears flowed from his eyes. He walked straight to the door, closed it then walked back to his friend and he said,

Wilson, stop this thing you are doing to yourself. You are my friend and the last thing that I want is you having to hurt yourself further. Although, you also have the right to find happiness so you are going to stay put and let nature bring it to you this time around.

Wilson just stood and left for his classroom without saying a word. The Secret Life of Wilson Love.

25 Breathtaking Beaches You Must Visit

Breathtaking Beache are outlined here for those of you who love traveling for holidays.

According to Wikipedia, a beach is a landform along the coast of an ocean, sea, lake, or river. It usually consists of loose particles, which are often composed of rock, such as sand, gravel, shingle, pebbles, or cobblestones. The particles comprising a beach are occasionally biological in origin, such as mollusc shells or coralline algae.

Some beaches have man-made infrastructure, such as lifeguard posts, changing rooms, and showers. They may also have hospitality venues (such as resorts, camps, hotels, and restaurants) nearby. Wild beaches, also known as undeveloped or undiscovered beaches, are not developed in this manner. Wild beaches can be valued for their untouched beauty and preserved nature.

Beaches typically occur in areas along the coast where wave or current action deposits and reworks sediments.

Cold weather, we are so over you. Instead, we’re dreaming of warm sand and crystal-blue water. That’s right – it’s time for a vacation along the coast. Trip Advisor put together a list of the best beaches in the world. Check out all the incredible locations, and plan your getaway now.

He has got a side chick

Side chick

He Has Got A Side Chick

Do you want to know if he has got a side chick ? Then keep reading… Nobody wants to play the fool in a relationship; nobody wants to be cheated on. Nobody wants to get hurt and even serial cheaters hates being cheated on.

Most times I wish I can read people’s mind, and am sure everyone does too. If we all knew how to read our partner’s minds, things would be easier. But unfortunately, we can’t.

Well, trouble yourself no more; I have got a list of actions that he exhibits that is a side chick alert; We all know the obvious signs like: his cell phone has a password on it and other behaviors of cheating men, well I am not going to bore you with the common ones that most of us are aware of. This list is based on the research of Charles J. Orlando on 50 cheating men and their partners.

 1. Unpredictable mood swings

“I was constantly looking for reasons to get away, and it was hard to think of new excuses all the time. So, I’d start a fight with her.”

Being angry in an instant or being overly nice is a red flag. There’s no real reason for him to leave, so he has to create one. He frequently picks fights with you. Doing this gives him reason to get mad and storm out of the house and thus the opportunity to meet his side chick.

  2. Lots of Gifts

He gets overly attentive to your needs than usual. This is due to the guilt feelings he experiences in the early stages of his affair. The attention will diminish as the affair continues. He will shower you with gifts —lots of gifts. These are “guilt gifts” purchased because he feels guilty about betraying you and showering you with presents makes him feel better.

 3. Sudden need for privacy

“I was working from home and I started closing the door more often, saying that I just needed to work quietly. I was online chatting with my side chick.”

To take time for one’s self is normal. But when it’s out of the normal pattern or is more and more frequent, it’s a sign that something else is going in. Going into work early, leaving late, getting off the phone suddenly, taking lots of private calls from a “relative” (mom, sister, and cousins), demanding for space and alone time are all tell signs of a side chick.

 4. Awkward conversations

Your relationship turns from a very communicative one to a point when you two can hardly have a conversation. You might live together but still don’t interact and he becomes cold towards you. And when you argue or fight, he will talk about your relationship ending. He says things like,

“What would you do if our relationship ended?” or “If anything ever happened to us, I would always love you like a friend.”

In general, he seems very negative about your relationship. He makes these statements because he has a side chick to fall back on if your relationship ends. If your partner repeats these kinds of statements often, be suspicious.

 5. change in sexual appetite and music

“I started up with my side chick and all I wanted was sex, but not from my partner. She knew something was up, because our sex life was always pretty active.”

I’ve never really liked jazz. But I struck up with a side chick, we enjoyed it together. I started listening to it all the time, just to think about her.”

Your hot sex life suddenly turns to something boring and only happens occasionally. Also, sudden change in music taste. For instance, he always listened to pop music but suddenly starts listening to country music. Your partner might be listening to and growing fond of this new type of music because his side chick listens to it. There’s nothing wrong with trying new things. But when it’s out of the blue and he excludes you from the change, it’s a warning sign that something is amiss.

The list goes on and on but these are the top tell-tale signs to watch for in your man. While these signs aren’t foolproof signs of cheating, a few taken in combination are sure signs that something is up. But, I advise that if you do suspect him, sit him down for a long talk about your concerns.

If that nagging feeling doesn’t disappear, you have some choices to make and perhaps some investigations to start or better still, break up!!!… yeah! I said it  break up! You all know am single, so I promote break ups, the single club is always open to new members.

New Semester Begins..

A new semester begins

New semester begins for most students as this month comes to an end and I know how unwilling most of them are to return to school. Look back on how the previous semester was and ask yourself and answer truthfully while reflecting back on it what you want to change.

A new semester begins

Most People succeeded in their endeavors and many didn’t, you do don’t have to feel bad or depressed if you were not in the success category. It’s life, move on.

Success or Failure is not a physical thing, it’s Psychological, it’s mental- a thing of the mind- and they are two sides of one coin. As  this a new semester, there are things you have to try, for most people it’s reading more, for some it’s taking a step back from making decisions in a hurry, while many others it’s to attend classes frequently.

A new semester begins like a fresh page in that voluminous book called EDUCATION, make the best of it. Make whoever is paying your bills proud and make yourself happy in the process. Bear in mind that what you’re doing right now may not benefit you so to speak but it will benefit your children. Work hard so your children don’t have to work harder than they are supposed to.

My Final piece of advice as this semester begins is to PRAY!!!. Pray continually, pray without ceasing and with your hard work your success is guaranteed.

P.s Those of you in final year with shaky grades remember this, “Pain is Temporary but G.P.A is Forever!!!! So i’d love you all to read and cause knowledge is power..

Did i forget to mention that http://www.talks.friendite.com is awesome? I guess i just reminded you, so check everyday for more scintilllating posts even better than this. There is something for everybody here.

How to cure a boring lifestyle

Boring lifestyle

How to cure a boring lifestyle

How to cure a boring lifestyle; my life is as boring as shit. I live a triangular life of work – home- church, and nobody can beat that. I have had the same schedule for years. Growing up I always wanted to stay home and see a movie while my friends would go out to have fun. I didn’t see reasons in stepping out of the house, maybe because I am too lazy to shower and step out. Well recently, am trying to make some changes in my lifestyle. I did some research on how to spice up my boring lifestyle and I thought to share my findings with you.

First, here is the hard truth (tough love); get out of your damn comfort zone already! You have a boring lifestyle because you’re boring. Stop being afraid of everything, variety is good. It’s good to deviate from the normal and do things that make you poop your pants a little bit. Nothing risked, nothing gained, right? Besides, you’re too young to be living a boring lifestyle. The last thing you want to feel when you’re older, besides arthritis, is regret.

Boring lifestyle

Create time for your friends in your schedule; plan things with friends in advance so you have something to look forward to during the weekend. I always suck at this because, like everyone else, I pretend that I’m busy 24/7 and then when Friday or Saturday night rolls around, I’m like,

“Wait, I guess I’m wide open. Will someone hang out with me?!”

Of course, by then it’s too late! Everyone else planned ahead and is having an awesome time at the poolside or at a party while am at home doing the same thing I have always done for the past 20 year; stay home and see movies like the stupid cliché I was born to be. It’s always best to line up social activities if for the very least to avoid living out this sad scenario.

boring lifestyle

Do not resort to drinking; it won’t turn your boring lifestyle to be exciting unless you are still a college kid. Instead of drinking, plan a weekend trip. Gather your friends together, propose a trip and actually follow through with it. Trust me, it will be worth it.  Weekend trips are rarely a bust unless someone brings along their annoying significant other. Don’t let them do that. Speaking of relationships, you should get a boyfriend or a girlfriend, silly! What’ve you been doing all of this time being single and alone?!! Obviously your life’s boring. You have no one to share it with. You can even join a dating site.

Boring lifestyleBuy a new book and let yourself get lost in it. Lately, I’ve become paranoid that getting older will turn me into a moron, so I’ve been reading a new book once a week to keep the wheels turning. It doesn’t have to be a super smart book; you can even visit www.talks.friendite.com daily to read awesome posts.

Boring lifestyleStart exercising; If you’re going to be bored, you might as well be bored and in shape. Also, you can start up fun projects. Few weeks back, I discovered my inner Victoria Becham; I made some dresses myself though I got lazy at some point and stopped  but am going to be more serious about it this time.

Finally and most importantly, drop your laptop in the bathtub, disconnect your electricity supply and force yourself to go outside. It’s where most exciting things happen, or so I’ve heard.

The Flying Doctor Ola Orekunrin

Ola Orekunrin

Ola Orekunrin

The flying Doctor Ola Orekunrin is the Nigerian wonder woman, she is the founder and Managing Director of Flying Doctors of Nigeria; a charity based in Lagos, Nigeria.

Early Life

The 29 years old Ola Orekunrin is a British-Nigerian, she was born by Nigerian parents in London, England and she grew up under the care of foster white parents in a seaside town; Lowestoft in the east of rural England. She is very fond of her foster mother Dowen, who she describes as one of the most influential people in her life without a doubt.

She is a great, spiritual wise woman, who taught me so many valuable skills. I still think over some of the things that she told me when I was a child; it’s all finally beginning to make sense.

Education

Ola Orekunrin attended a primary school that was run by Catholic nuns. She started her degree at the age of 15 at the Hull York Medical School. While studying, she supported herself by working in retail, modeling and admin because her foster parents, though working class does not have enough money. She graduated from the University of York at the age of 21, as one of the youngest medical doctors in the United Kingdom.

Ola OrekunrinMedical Career

After graduation, Ola worked for some years as a helicopter pilot with specialized training in aviation medicine with the National Health Service, United Kingdom. She pioneered the first air operated Emergency medical services in Lagos, Nigeria; Flying Doctors Nigeria Ltd.

Ola Orekunrin was motivated to start the charity after experiencing the loss of her sister under difficult circumstances; her younger sister died of sickle cell anemia.

She was always in and out of hospitals but eventually died for lack of the availability of air ambulance. This more or less propelled my interest in medicine because I really wanted to make a difference in the same way doctors had done to her. Setting up the company was a direct result of my fascination for helicopters, trauma medicine, motor accident kinematics and pre-hospital medicine. I knew it was something that I had the skills and experience to do,” she reminisces

Flying Doctors Nigeria was established in 2007; it basically provides critical care transportation solutions to both the private and public sector by selling yearly air ambulance cover plans to states, companies and individuals.

The first time an air ambulance service was suggested for Nigeria was in 1960 and nothing was done about that idea. Due to Ola Orekunrin’s passion to help improve the health care system in Nigeria, she studied models in Kenya, Libya, Uganda and India and was even more determined to bring a similar service to Nigeria.

Flying Doctors Nigeria is completely physician-led and adheres to the highest standards of medical practice supported by the East Anglian Air Ambulance in the United Kingdom. And their mission is:

To provide the best possible standard of health care to all.

Ola OrekunrinChallenges

Ola Orekunrin route to success was not smooth. She took a blind leap when she decided to set her dreams in Nigeria. She had to quit her job in the UK, bury her aspirations for the position of the president of the British Medical Association and minister for the conservative party, she also sold her car and sacrificed a lot more things.

When she came to Nigeria, she faced several difficulties, she spent hours sometimes waiting in an office only to be told to come back the next day and then be turned down, many people rejected her proposal but she still kept pushing. At one point, she was robbed of all she had but still she persevered.

In an interview with Punch, Ola Orekunrin said:

In all of these, I was able to learn a great lesson. When you need something, people tend to avoid you but when you don’t need anything and seem to be making profit, they tend to become your best friend. The attitude towards me has changed immensely.”

Awards

Ola Orekunrin’s Flying Doctors project has been a huge success and it has improved Nigeria’s health care system. She has claimed several awards for her work in research and clinical evidence; Ola Orekunrin received Thisday award in 2012, she was listed among Young Global leaders by World Economic Forum in 2013. Ola Orekunrin is also a member of both the American Academy of Aesthetic Surgeons and the British Medical Association.

“I used to think people who win these kinds of awards were politicians or people with the right pedigree so it came as a shock to me. I feel really humbled and overwhelmed and it will simply propel me to do more.”

Ola Orekunrin is definitely Nigeria’s wonder woman, she have so much love for her country and will fly to anywhere to rescue people.

Why Do You Want To Work Here?

Why do you want to work here‘Why do you want to work here?’, How To Answer this Question.

Why do you want to work here?” Why does interviewers mostly ask this question? You’re on an interview to figure out whether you want to work there, or not. You can’t possibly answer the question “Why do you want to work here?” until you actually know that you do!

This is just another variation of the “Grovel, Knave” mind-set so prevalent among weenie job interviewers. They probably don’t even realize that they are treating job-seekers like second-class citizens. There is a whole line-up of “Grovel, Knave” questions that show up on the typical job interview:

  • With all the talented candidates, why should we hire YOU?
  • What’s your greatest weakness?
  • Where do you see yourself in five years?
  • What makes you qualified for this job?
  • What does your former boss say about you?

When our kid stuffs his sock down the tub drain and we have to call the plumber, we don’t get to ask the plumber questions like these. We ask the plumber “What’s your hourly rate?” and if we can afford it, we ask “When can you fit me into your schedule?” We don’t take the arch tone and the superior attitude with the plumber.

Why do you want to work here?

Why do you want to work hereIt’s only in the realm of employment that we look down our noses at job-seekers, because we believe that we get to pick from among a vast array of them. We falsely believe that the purpose of a job interview is for a bunch of job-seekers to parade their wares for a hiring manager and then for him or her to choose among them.

That’s false. I’ve been recruiting forever, and I know as well as anyone does that great candidates are hard to find.

Why do you want to work here?

You have to work to get them. Some recruiter got up before dawn to catch an early flight and go to a distant city to interview a candidate in the airport lounge in his or her town.

She never left the airport. She interviewed the person and then got back on a plane. That’s what you have to do if you care about talent. You have to bend and flex. Why do you want to work here?

A lot of employers don’t really care about talent, although they should! It will take a while, but as the economy improves and more and more working people figure out that the only power they will have in the employment relationship is the power they give to themselves, old-school “Impress me!”-type employers will end up short-handed.

Why do you want to work here?

In the meantime, you may have to answer the stupid interview question “Why do you want to work here?”

The truthful answer for many job-seekers is “I saw your job ad, I’m qualified for the job, and so I wanted to learn more. I don’t know yet whether or not I want to work here. That’s why I came to the interview — to find out.” You can answer the question exactly that way if you want to.

You can take a softer tone and tell the interviewer what initially interested you in the job – apart from the fact that it’s a job you figured you could get. You figured right, because here you are on the job interview!

You can say “I had vaguely heard of your company before but when I saw your job ad, I dug in to learn more and I like what you’re doing. I’m especially interested in X, Y and Z.Why do you want to work here

Any manager or recruiter who asks you “Why do you want to work here?” wants to hear what you know about his or her company. They don’t want to hear that you need a job. They’re asking you to tell them what you’ve learned about their company, so go ahead and tell them!

You always research an employer before you show up for a job interview, right? If not, here’s an article about how to do that.

Resist the temptation to say “What makes you assume I want to work here?” I don’t blame you if those words rise to your lips, but if you are that irritated you may as well get up and leave the interview. I’m sure there is a place nearby where you can get a nice Burger.

It’s not a bad thing to leave a job interview when you’re being treated like dog-meat. I hope you do get up and bail on a job interview some day. It’s very mojo-building to do that!

Once you answer the question “Why do you want to work here?” for instance with the answer “I can tell you what got me to send in a resume, and that was your company’s billboard on I-80 — the one advertising your new mobile product. I bought the product a few days after I saw the billboard, and I love it!” — feel free to ask a reciprocal question. “What made you invite me for an interview?”

Your interview wants to know “Why us?” and it’s perfectly reasonable for you to ask “Why me?” right back. Leave a comment and tell us about your experiences with the “Why do you want to work here?” question!

5 Ways to Be the Must-follow Leader

MUST-FOLLOW LEADERWays to Be the Must-follow Leader

5 Ways to Be the Must-follow Leader, a leader your employees would love to rally behind. If you are like most entrepreneurs I know, there just aren’t enough hours in a day to get all your own work done, as well as run the many one-hour meetings each team member seems to demand for decisions and mentoring. I have found it to be more productive and effective to lead with the model that no meetings will take an hour, and may be done in as little as five minutes.

Of course, this requires some discipline and focus on your part, as well as the willingness to trust team members and allow them to do their jobs. For example, you must fore-go the traditional meeting approach, where a team member presents a slide deck with all the background and multiple solution options on an issue, and asks you for a decision. 5 Ways to Be the Must-follow Leader

I recommend the elevator pitch-approach instead, which you probably learned in dealing with busy investors, where the person calling the meeting is asked to summarize the purpose, value and recommended solution in the first minute or two. That leaves three minutes, or maybe a few more, for you to clarify your understanding, approve their approach or suggest additional work.

5 Ways to Be the Must-follow Leader

MUST-FOLLOW LEADERMeetings at this level should never be seen as “working sessions” for actually solving the problem, but as mentoring and direction setting for team members. I have personally used this approach in leading startups as well as large organizations, in highly technical roles as well as business development and marketing. But it only works if you observe the following principles:

1. Never hide from your team.

If you are always hard to find, too busy or unavailable behind closed doors, no leadership or mentoring relationship can work effectively. The old principle of managing by walking around will give the background, and people always having to wait makes them talk longer when they get your precious attention.

2. Listen and adapt your style to theirs.

You rarely learn anything by talking. Practice active listening and respond with a simple affirmation, step-by-step instructions or an anecdotal story, depending on the style and experience of the team member. Five-minute meetings cannot be five minutes of anyone talking. 5 Ways to Be the Must-follow Leader

3. What is said in a meeting must stay in the meeting.

Of course, decisions and action items must be communicated immediately, but individual disagreements, comments and recommendations must never surface around the water cooler or in later reviews. You want team members to provide input openly, honestly and without fear of retribution.5 Ways to Be the Must-follow Leader

4. Provide immediate direct and constructive feedback.

Team members need your critique of their work to learn, but attacking the person is never productive. Use every opportunity to clarify your goals and set the context for follow-on discussions. If you must provide negative feedback, make every attempt to highlight the positives first.

5. Make it clear that team members are accountable and responsible.

5 Ways to Be the Must-follow Leader

Your most valuable team members wouldn’t want to work any other way. Encourage them to come in with solutions, not problems, and empower them to drive their recommendations to success. Everyone learns best from failures, so failure should never be a feared option.

For one-on-one coaching from the startup founder, I call this approach five-minute mentoring. The goal is not to use your time doing the job for less-experienced team members, but instead quickly identifying their barrier to progress, and providing guidance on a next step. Even if multiple cycles are required to reach the goal, you will spend less time, and they will learn infinitely more.

5 Ways to Be the Must-follow Leader

I fully understand that the best entrepreneurs are problem solvers by nature, so this approach requires a mindset change from solving to a specific answer, to coaching on the process, which will pay big dividends for both of you as the company grows. You can be a problem solver and build a product alone, but you can’t build a successful business alone.

MUST-FOLLOW LEADERYour primary responsibility as a startup founder is to provide vision, leadership and communication to all internal and external team members. Long meetings behind closed doors are draining for you and not productive for the company toward these objectives. 5 Ways to Be the Must-follow Leader

Start today with five-minute meetings and mentoring to get the fun and productivity back.
