BRITISH-NAIJA LEGEND, TUNDE BAIYEWU

tunde baiyewuTUNDE BAIYEWU OF THE LIGHTHOUSE FAMILY

Tunde Baiyewu (born Babatunde Emanuel Baiyewu) is a British Pop singer of Nigerian descent and is a member of the easy listening duo, Lighthouse Family. In 2004 he embarked on a solo career, releasing the album Tunde, and in 2013 released his second album, Diamond in a Rock.

HIS EARLY LIFE

Tunde Baiyewu was born on the 25th of November, 1968 (once again I give you another great November born, damn! we are awesome) in Willesden Green, North-West London, but was taken to Nigeria when he was four by his mum, after the death of his father. He talks about the disorientation of the move and his extraordinary stepfather. His mother went on to marry former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo who, like both her and Baiyewu himself, is of the Yoruba ethnic group.

Was he afraid of him? “No, no. He may have been strict, but he was charming too, and charismatic. He also accepted me as one of his own.”

The family setup was an unusual one for Western sensibilities perhaps, but, Tunde Baiyewu suggests, not so at home. Obasanjo, like all husbands with multiple wives, had one main wife who lived with him. The others, Tunde’s mother among them, he would see intermittently, perhaps once a month.

Tunde Baiyewu said,

There was a lot of competition between the wives, a lot of rivalry. And the wives behaved with discretion – no press profiles, no attendant VIP lifestyle – so much so that Tunde’s life didn’t really change at all after the marriage. He didn’t even tell his friends at school. So when Obasanjo turned up to visit me from time to time, bringing with him all these security men… well, it was awkward.

In the late 1980s, Tunde moved back to the UK to study accountancy in the University of Northumbria in Newcastle upon Tyne. He wasn’t much taken with the course, but it earned him an important commodity – his parents’ pride. It was here that he met the musician Paul Tucker (was also working in the same bar with him), with whom he formed the Lighthouse Family. Success came quickly, and it was just as the band reached their commercial peak that his stepfather was thrown into prison.tunde baiyewu

HIS CAREER

In 2005, Tunde Baiyewu appeared on the BBC Television one-off special, Strictly African Dancing. He came last, but he learned the Bata dance in the process.

On 12 November 2006, Baiyewu appeared in an ITV documentary called Faith in Music. This documentary tunde baiyewucharted his life and music, from his roots in Africa, through Lighthouse Family and into his current solo incarnation. It also showed him performing an acoustic set featuring tracks from his latest album.

In January 2007, Tunde Baiyewu held his first tour in over four years (the last time being with Lighthouse Family). He did four concerts from 13 to 16 January 2007 in Edinburgh, Manchester, Wolverhampton and London respectively. He combined his solo material with Lighthouse Family hits and dedicated each and every song to his nephew Funto.

Tunde Baiyewu released his second solo album, Diamond In A Rock, in the UK on 4 March 2013.

THE ALBUM, ‘Diamond In A Rock’

In 2013 Baiyewu announced plans for a second solo album entitled Diamond In A Rock and first single from the album “Move” – both released on 4 March 2013. In addition, he released a promotional EP, The Live Sessions, featuring live recordings of “Move”, “High” and “Letting Me Down Gently”.

Tunde’s second single from the album Diamond In A Rock is the title track “Diamond In A Rock” and was released mid-April 2013 on iTunes. The single was released as an EP including the single track “Diamond In A Rock” (Radio Edit) and three previously unreleased tracks: “Home”, “Tomorrow’s News” and “Speaking Voice”.
tunde baiyewuIn October 2013 he joined M People as their support act during their “20th Anniversary Greatest Hits Tour”.

HIS PERSONAL LIFE

Tunde Baiyewu is an alumnus of Northumbria University, having completed an Accountancy degree in 1994.
In March 2007, Baiyewu married Tope Adeshina, a young Nigerian model, in Lagos, Nigeria. They live in the North London, UK. They have two daughters, aged four and two, and they regularly return to Lagos.

Tunde Baiyewu is a sweet, talkative, gentle man. He clearly isn’t now, and never was, a polemicist, a protest singer. It never occurred to him, he says, to write songs about his family’s situation or take a public stand.

I was never much of a rebel, to be honest. I was always more spiritual.

Independent woman

The Independent Woman is Not a Myth

The independent woman is not a myth; the independent woman is viewed by many as a mystical creature or a goddess and even a myth. Sorry to burst your bubbles but independent women exist and I like to think am one (yes… I am an independent woman, maybe not fully independent but I plan on getting there someday.) An independent woman as defined in the Urban dictionary is a woman who pays her own bills, buys her own things, and does not allow a man to affect her stability or self-confidence. She supports herself entirely on her own and is proud to be able to do so. (Hmm… I take my words back, I think I don’t fit the criteria of an independent woman  according to the Urban dictionary; I am a quarter independent woman. LOL)

Most men wants to date an independent woman while some domineering fellow think it’s a bad idea; you will have to think again because I will discuss the benefits of dating an independent woman in this article. Enjoy the ride!

    1. Not Clingy

Most men hate clingy women, it might be exciting for some at the initial stage, but clinginess screams insecurity and it’s not in any way sexy. An independent woman will give you your personal space, she won’t be webbing your entire life; she knows how to show her love and the appropriate time to do so, she understands that a ‘significant other’ is a part of their lives and not their entire life. In short, they have a life outside of you.

     2. Inspiring

Do you want a woman that has gone through the tides of life? An independent woman is courageous and like everyone else, she has fears of failure, but more than anything is afraid of going through life without fulfilling her potential. Her “I-can-do-anything” personality will sure shake your perceptions about how you may be living your own life, and inspire you to achieve your dreams.

      3. Not afraid of being alone

Are you thinking of how to have long vacations or business trips without your significant other sometimes? Well don’t fright, an independent woman is the one for you. While you are not with her, she will keep herself busy with work and occupy her mind with innovative ideas. She is not afraid of being left alone.

       4. She loves to love

The independent woman loves to love; she may seem distant sometimes, she may not be the most affectionate partner but she is stunningly thoughtful in how she displays her love.

       5. Thrives on her independence

The independent woman is the best example of a helpmate; she will ignite your life with her determination and success and will give you the push you need to make a difference in your own life. She knows what she is capable of accomplishing and isn’t afraid to take on whatever career challenges come her way.

The independent woman

The independent woman is real and she is loads of fun to get to know. She have weaknesses and strengths just like everybody else but she is determined and unarguably have power to better the world. Now you have to ask yourself if you have got the balls to date an independent woman. The Independent woman needs someone that understands her and gives her personal space. And only a significant other that has a life of their own and who values independence will be able to meet the independent woman’s needs. So, have you got what it takes? An advice to women:

Develop your self, aim at being independent because independence is the new sexy.

six packsReclaim your spiritual six packs

Reclaim your spiritual six packs, a friend complained about having belly fat and he asked me to write an article that will help him reclaim his six packs, because according to him the six packs is still within him (I hope so). Many men have stomach fat and are concerned on how to get rid of it.

Gone are the days when stomach fat was viewed as a sign of wealth in the contemporal African culture.

Now, if you ain’t got six packs, she ain’t gonna dig you.

Before we can tackle a problem, we have to root out the cause of the problem. Belly fat is caused by a variety of factors from; over-consumption of calories, lack of exercises, high intake of sugar, high consumption of alcohol and poor dieting. Some even claim that belly fat is generic, but I doubt that I think some lazy dude cooked that lie up.

Also you need to know the dangers of belly fat, properly that will be enough motivation in getting rid of it; it is linked with lots of health risks like: cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer.

Six packsLet’s start with the simple tips that you will find surprising.

1. Stress is also a major cause of belly fat (surprising right), research indicates that the secretion of cortisol; a hormone the body produces when stressed induces belly fat. In order to reclaim your spiritual six packs, cut down activities that are stressful, get enough sleep; at least 7 hours sleep. Set aside time to relax. Even if it’s only 15 minutes on your lunch break, find time to simply close your eyes, breathe deeply, and forget your worries.

2. Eat healthy breakfast within an hour of waking up. It might seem counterproductive to eat if you’re trying to lose weight, but studies show that eating breakfast within an hour of waking up keeps your insulin levels steadier and your LDL cholesterol levels lower.

3. Take 10,000 steps daily. Get a pedometer and try to increase the number of daily steps you take. Take stairs instead of elevators; walk instead of driving. Stand up and walk 30 steps every 30 minutes.

4. Drinking enough water throughout the day can lead to a more active metabolism, regardless of dieting. Drinking more water also helps your body flush out waste/toxins and improves your overall health. You’ll know you’re drinking enough water when your urine runs almost clear. If it’s still yellow, drink up. Replace alcohol and sugary drinks like Coke and Pepsi with water.

Who knew rest, eating breakfast, walking and drinking plenty water can help in reclaiming six packs, now let’s talk about the same old things you have heard several times and probably ignored.

Six packs

Exercise! There is no short cut or easy way with this one; you’ve got to burn off the fat. There are various exercise that helps in eliminating belly fat:

1. Exercise in small bursts. Research shows that interval training, or alternating short bursts of energy with brief resting periods, can improve muscle and build endurance more quickly than traditional exercise. Run as fast and as far as you can for 20 seconds, then slow to a walk until you catch your breath. Repeat for 10 minutes. Take quick walks;  take long strides and keep a brisk pace, or try going up and down stairs.

2. Abdominal crunches and sit-ups should build strong muscles, but you might not see them under belly fat. In fact, crunches might actually make your stomach look bigger as you build up thicker abs. Instead, if you strengthen your back muscles, your posture will improve and pull in your belly. To focus on your core muscles; do the bridge and also squats.

 3. Do aerobic exercises which get your heart pumping, burn calories quickly and facilitate fat loss all over the body, including your belly. You can’t “spot-burn” belly fat, but it’s usually the first to burn off when you exercise, regardless of body shape or size.

Six packs

Eat healthy. Unless you restrict calorie intake, you won’t lose belly fat. Keep a food diary to help you watch the calories you consume, you can download an online calorie calculator on your phone. Consume good fat; diets with a higher ratio of monounsaturated fats like avocados, nuts, seeds, soybeans, and chocolate can prevent the accumulation of belly fat. Soluble fibers that are found in apples, oats, and cherries lowers insulin levels which can speed up the burning of visceral belly fat.

Get motivated. Join forces with a friend; trying to lose weight with a partner can help you stay accountable for your actions, as well as giving you an extra incentive to keep exercise appointments. Share your victories together, and discuss solutions to whatever roadblocks you encounter.

Many books and articles on how to rid belly fat would tell you that if you follow their tips, you will have an instant six packs in few weeks (Lies!), well if you follow the above tips, and you are determined then you will reclaim your spiritual six packs within months.

APPLE WATCH LUXURY ITEM

APPLE WATCH, LUXURY ITEMNEW TACTIC BY APPLE WATCH, PROMOTED AS A LUXURY GOOD

APPLE WATCH LUXURY ITEM – Apple has scrapped its usual routine for releasing products with its new device, the Apple Watch. The company is instead taking a page from the playbook of another industry: luxury goods makers.

Gone are the long lines in front of Apple stores that would accompany a typical iPhone release. Gone is the flooding of a vast worldwide distribution network where Apple would make a new iPhone available. The company is selling the Apple Watch, which goes on sale on Friday, in just nine countries and exclusively through its own channels, not through third-party retailers like Best Buy. In contrast, Apple unveiled new iPhones in September in more than 30 countries and in numerous retail outlets.

APPLE WATCH LUXURY ITEM

For the first time, Apple is also bringing personal attention and tailoring into the mix through a process for trying on the watch. While consumers typically couldn’t touch a new Apple device until it was publicly available, the company this month began inviting customers into its stores to see, wear and feel the watch.

Evan Weissbrot, a 33-year-old watch collector, experienced the sneak preview firsthand. After he arrived at the Apple Store in SoHo on April 11, an Apple employee took Mr. Weissbrot to a station and unlocked a drawer containing a variety of the watches. In between small talk, the employee showed Mr. Weissbrot different straps and cases – and even let him check out the gold watch, which costs more than $10,000 and typically requires a separate appointment to try on. APPLE WATCH LUXURY ITEM

Mr Weissbrot said,

The amount of personal attention and the allure of the process “was a rip directly from a high-end watch store”.

All of this echoes the tactics of luxury goods makers like Burberry and Hermès. Giving consumers an early peek before they buy things is a familiar strategy in the fashion industry — as, increasingly, is tempting early adopters with the bonus of circumventing the shop. When Burberry shows new lines of clothing and handbags on the runway, the company lets customers order select items immediately after the show for delivery even before the products arrive in stores. APPLE WATCH LUXURY ITEM.

Apple also appears to be mimicking the scarcity-creates-desire approach, one that has served Hermès well with items like the Birkin and Kelly bags. They are rarely in stock, and customers sometimes wait months to receive one. That strategy has also worked for companies like Ferrari, which has loyal customers who pay thousands of dollars just to get on a list to wait as long as a year to own the next hot Italian sports car.

Milton Pedraza, Chief Executive of the Research firm the Luxury Institute said of Apple,

They’re definitely treading on new territory, while high-end fashion brands, jewelers and luxury car brands often use selectivity and personal attention to generate interest when a product makes its debut, it is new for Apple, a company whose products typically speak to an enormous consumer audience as opposed to a privileged few.APPLE WATCH, LUXURY ITEMAPPLE WATCH LUXURY ITEM

The strategy is a deliberate move by Tim Cook, Chief Executive of Apple, and Angela Ahrendts, the company’s retail chief and a former chief executive of Burberry, to lay the groundwork for a successful introduction of the watch. (APPLE WATCH LUXURY ITEM) The watch is the first entirely new device Apple has introduced under the leadership of Mr Cook, who took the helm in 2011, and brings the company into the fashion market, as well as the luxury market, with the 18-karat gold version of the watch.

Tell me, what do you think of Apple watch Luxury item? Just wanna know your opinion.

In a recent letter to Apple’s retail employees, Ms. Ahrendts said the company needed to come up with the preview approach for selling the watch because “there’s never been anything quite like it.” In the memo, which was cited by the blog 9to5Mac, she said it was unlikely that people could buy the watch at Apple stores before June because of supply constraints.

APPLE WATCH LUXURY ITEM

An Apple spokeswoman, Amy Bessette, said Ms. Ahrendts was not available to comment on the retail strategy for the watch.

Apple’s top brass has been energetically promoting the watch over the last seven months, granting interviews about the creation of the device to The New Yorker and Wired. Apple has also invested significantly in advertising, spending an estimated $36 million since March 9 on a television campaign for the smartwatch, just slightly less than the $38.5 million that it spent on TV ads for new iPhones since mid-November, according to iSpot.TV, an analytic firm.

The watch’s success remains far from assured. Mr. Cook said on Apple’s financial earnings call in October that the company would report sales of the watch in a group with other products, rather than breaking it out into a separate category. APPLE WATCH LUXURY ITEM

I’m not very anxious in reporting a lot of numbers on Apple Watch and giving a lot of detail on it, because our competitors are looking for it.

Sales estimates for the watch are modest compared with Apple’s past best sellers. Toni Sacconaghi, a financial analyst for Sanford C. Bernstein, predicts Apple will ship 7.5 million watches in the second half of the company’s fiscal year, while tens of millions of iPhones fly off the shelves every quarter. APPLE WATCH LUXURY ITEM

For now, Apple’s luxury experiment with the Apple Watch appears to be bringing in mixed results. At Apple’s London flagship store nine days ago, employees asked people if they wanted to sign up for personal appointments to get hands-on with the product. Several people were bemused that they could not handle the watches without appointments.

APPLE WATCH LUXURY ITEMAPPLE WATCH, LUXURY

At an Apple store in Hong Kong, a Chinese tourist from Beijing, Scott Sun, took photos of the gold watches to send to his friends but said every version of the watch – which starts at $350 – was too expensive for him. He said,

There’s no way I’m going to buy one, but for rich people, this gold one will definitely be popular.”

Another question raised by Apple’s luxury experiment with the watch is whether customers will believe it is worth the wait. While the watch will begin shipping to customers on Friday, some customers have reported that their shipping times have slipped to May or June.

APPLE WATCH LUXURY ITEM – For Mr. Weissbrot, the watch collector in SoHo, the wait was not a deterrent. He placed an online order for an Apple Watch Sport, which is the least expensive model and has an aluminum case, before the session in which he tried one on. The estimated date of arrival for his watch is May 13. Before adding that he was still excited to be among the first to have the device, he said,

It’s kind of a bummer.

The APPLE WATCH LUXURY ITEM? Of course, that is what it is being made to be so bring out your wads of cash and go get yours.

Every woman

Categories of friends every woman needs

Categories of friends every woman needs; I take pride in my friends, especially the female folks, they are the best. They have been through tough times with me and even amazing moments. I feel blessed because I have amazing friends, I don’t know if every woman is as fortunate as I am, and I wish you are.

I have talked about the independent woman, and for you to become one you need certain types of friends that will motivate you. Every woman needs a support system that is always there for her, and motivates her to do her best and reach for her dreams. In this case, I am not talking about a man, every woman needs an amazing female friend, and if you have got one don’t take her for granted, but if you don’t then you need to understand the type of friends you need around you.

  1. The Supporter

Every woman needs a supportive friend, one that is always there when you need her, and even when you don’t think you need her. She always knows exactly how to cheer you up when you are sad. She knows the perfect joke to make you pee your pants, and loves to friendly tease you.  She sticks with you till the end, and will fight war with you. She lifts you up when you are weak, picks up your pieces when you feel broken…but most importantly; she loves you, and will continue to love you no matter what.

  1. The Risk Taker

She loves going outside the box and facing challenges. She always loves to motivate you to explore your wild side and try new things. She loves going to new restaurants with you, and traveling. They are the friends who inspire you to go after your dreams, and never let anything stop you. Every woman needs a risk taker; she will help you step out of your comfort zone.

  1. The Non-Stop Talker

She can talk for hours and hours. She loves catching up with you, and helps you get everything on your mind out into the air. She is the friend you love going out with and chatting it up about life, or literally everything that crosses your mind.  She always listens to every word you say, and take it all in, she will never judge you. She also loves putting herself in your shoes so she can understand you better. If you have that one person who you love talking to, she is probably your non-stop-talker, keep her close.

  1. 24/7 Go To Girl

This friend is a life saver; you can call in the middle of the night, and depend on for anything. She is just like a supporter, but is more like the last minute friend. She always reminds you of things she knows you are destined to forget.

  1. The Dedicated Go Getter

Every woman needs a friend who brings life to you every time you see her. She always reminds you of how amazing you are, and motivates you to live your life to the fullest. She always sees the positive in every situation, and helps you see it to. She also loves getting things done, and puts 100% effort in everything she does. She is the kind of person that inspires everyone around her, and leaves people in awe whenever she passes by. You love hanging around her, for you know she lives to brighten your day, and make you feel confident in your own skin.

There are other types of amazing friends like the trendy shopper; who is fashionable, likes to be in style and always wants to go shopping with you. The know it all keeps you updated on everything from boys to the latest gossip. Some friends possess all of these characteristics and they have a fancy name ‘Best Friends’. Girl friends are amazing!

Dealing With Stress

Yes we all know what stress is, if not by definition at least by emotion. That’s right, stress is an emotion; an emotion that leeches the life joy right out of you like sucking the last drop of juice from that juice box.

Dealing with stress is not what someone can assist you with 100% of the time as we all have our demons to deal with. In the years that have passed by, I learned a universal way or number of ways to deal with stress and I would like to share them with you.

The first part is the simplest but always the most forgotten even among adults like us. It’s to remember that worrying over things does not make them (The things) go away. Even the bible said it “…. Be anxious over nothing…” and that same gorgeous book also said”…. By worrying can you add a cubic meter to your height or make your hair grow…”. Rethink my dear readers, rethink.

Secondly Since we have to understand that  the fact that stress is self inflicted..sometimes.  you will notice I used the word “sometimes” because  as far as we are on the this green earth, we will have to worry over one thing or the other regardless of how hard we try. We are Human, We Think involuntarily it’s in our nature to worry. To get most the stress off your head it’s best most times to confide in people or someone or write what bothers you in a diary. This works for most people.

Dealing with stress also heightens your senses like superman.. Not in terms of physical strength and stuff.*Laughing* But psychologically. At that point the slightest thing irritates or offends you.

Music has been known as an awesome remedy also for dealing with stress. Search for that song that touches your very being, yes that song that just came to mind while reading this. It will calm your nerves I guarantee it.

Lastly, Prayer is THE greatest tool for dealing with stress. Never forget that.

Take this Quote as you ponder on these things… “ It’s Best To Listen Much, Speak Little And Not Become Angry”-James 1:19.

Thank YOU!!!

10 truths about life10 Truths About Life We Forget Easily

10 Truths about life we forget easily. It’s surprising how easy it is to lose sight of the important things in life. Busy schedules and weekly routines have a tendency to put the brain on autopilot. This isn’t the same as the 10 Bitter Truths About Adult Life I had earlier written, though partly similar.

But some of life’s essential truths need repeating. Keep this list handy and give it a read any time you need a boost.

10 Truths about life we forget easily.

1. Being busy does not equal being productive.

Look at everyone around you. They all seem so busy — running from meeting to meeting and firing off emails. Yet how many of them are really producing, really succeeding at a high level?

Success doesn’t come from movement and activity. It comes from focus – from ensuring that your time is used efficiently and productively.

You get the same number of hours in the day as everyone else. Use yours wisely. After all, you’re the product of your output, not your effort. Make certain your efforts are dedicated to tasks that get results. 10 Truths about life we forget easily.

2. Great success is often preceded by failure.

You will never experience true success until you learn to embrace failure. Your mistakes pave the way for you to succeed by revealing when you’re on the wrong path.

The biggest breakthroughs typically come when you’re feeling the most frustrated and the most stuck. It’s this frustration that forces you to think differently, to look outside the box and see the solution that you’ve been missing.

10 Truths about life we forget easily.

Success takes patience and the ability to maintain a good attitude even while suffering for what you believe in.

3. Fear is the No. 1 source of regret.

When it’s all said and done, you will lament the chances you didn’t take far more than you will your failures. Don’t be afraid to take risks. I often hear people say,

What’s the worst thing that can happen to you? Will it kill you?

Yet death isn’t the worst thing that can happen to you. The worst thing that can happen to you is allowing yourself to die inside while you’re still alive. 10 Truths about life we forget easily.

4. Your self-worth must come from within.

When your sense of pleasure and satisfaction are derived from comparing yourself to others, you are no longer the master of your own destiny. When you feel good about something that you’ve done, don’t allow anyone’s opinions or accomplishments to take that away from you.

While it’s impossible to turn off your reactions to what others think of you, you don’t have to compare yourself to others, and you can always take people’s opinions with a grain of salt. That way, no matter what other people are thinking or doing, your self-worth comes from within. Regardless of what people think of you at any particular moment, one thing is certain – you’re never as good or bad as they say you are.

10 Truths about life we forget easily.

5. You’re only as good as those you associate with.

You should strive to surround yourself with people who inspire you, people who make you want to be better. And you probably do.

But what about the people who drag you down? Why do you allow them to be a part of your life?

Anyone who makes you feel worthless, anxious, or uninspired is wasting your time and, quite possibly, making you more like them. Life is too short to associate with people like this. Cut them loose. 10 Truths about life we forget easily.

6. Life is short.

None of us is guaranteed a tomorrow. Yet when someone dies unexpectedly it causes us to take stock of our own life – what’s really important, how we spend our time, and how we treat other people?

Loss is a raw, visceral reminder of the frailty of life. It shouldn’t be.

10 Truths about life we forget easily.

Remind yourself every morning when you wake up that each day is a gift, and you’re bound to make the most of the blessing you’ve been given. The moment you start acting like life is a blessing is the moment it will start acting like one.

After all, a great day begins with a great mind-set.

7. You don’t have to wait for an apology to forgive.

10 Truths about life we forget easily – Life goes a lot smoother once you let go of grudges and forgive even those who never said they were sorry. Grudges let negative events from your past ruin today’s happiness. Hate and anger are emotional parasites that destroy your joy in life.

The negative emotions that come with holding on to a grudge create a stress response in your body, and holding on to stress can have devastating health consequences. Researchers at Emory University have shown that it contributes to high blood pressure and heart disease.

When you forgive someone, it doesn’t condone their actions; it simply frees you from being their eternal victim.

8. You’re living the life you’ve created.

You are not a victim of circumstance. No one can force you to make decisions and take actions that run contrary to your values and aspirations.

The circumstances you’re living in today are your own – you created them. Likewise, your future is entirely up to you. If you’re feeling stuck, it’s probably because you’re afraid to take the risks necessary to achieve your goals and live your dreams.

When it’s time to take action, remember that it’s always better to be at the bottom of the ladder you want to climb than at the top of one you don’t. 10 Truths about life we forget easily.

9. Live in the moment.

You can’t reach your full potential until you learn to live your life in the present.

No amount of guilt can change the past, and no amount of anxiety can change the future. It’s impossible to be happy if you’re constantly somewhere else, unable to fully embrace the reality (good or bad) of this very moment.

10 Truths about life we forget easily.

To help yourself live in the moment, you must do two things:

  1. Accept your past. If you don’t make peace with your past, it will never leave you and, in doing so, it will create your future.
  2. Accept the uncertainty of the future. Worry has no place in the here and now. As Mark Twain said, “Worrying is like paying a debt you don’t owe.”

10. Change is inevitable – embrace it.

Only when you embrace change can you find the good in it. You need to have an open mind and open arms if you’re going to recognize, and capitalize on, the opportunities that change creates.

You’re bound to fail when you keep doing the same things you always have in the hope that ignoring change will make it go away.

After all, the definition of Insanity’ is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Life doesn’t stop for anyone. When things are going well, appreciate them and enjoy them, as they are bound to change. If you are always searching for something more, something better, that you think is going to make you happy, you’ll never be present enough to enjoy the great moments before they’re gone.

10 Truths about life we forget easily.

Are there important truths that I’ve forgotten? Please share them in the comments section. I learn from you just as much as you learn from me. And that’s it on 10 Truths about life we forget easily.

NUMBER 1 PROBLEM WITH BOSSES

Number 1 ProblemNumber 1 Problem With Bosses.

Number 1 Problem with Bosses – According to a study by the National Business Research Institute, the number 1 problem people report having with their boss or manager is a lack of communication. From the report:

Heidi Gorman, CMO of Capital H Group said,

I think one of the things employees dislike the most is the lack of context that their employers provide. By that I mean many employees do not get enough information from their employers to have answers to basic questions like, ‘What’s really expected of me?’, ‘How will my performance be judged?’ and ‘How does what I do, day-in-and-day-out, help the overall company achieve its goals?’ It is important for all employees, regardless of what they do, to have these essential questions answered because it gives a sense of meaning to their work.

One reason that communication problems are so rampant is because they are ongoing, as opposed to single events. When communication fails, employees tend to draw back and become afraid to ask questions or speak up when they foresee a problem. Number 1 Problem with Bosses.

In short, if you want open communication from your employees when it matters, you need to model the behavior yourself. Here are a few suggestions to get started:

Number 1 Problem with Bosses

1. Share your knowledge.

Whether it’s about a change the company is making or a client you’ve worked with before, be proactive about sharing information with your team. Most employees are much better able to roll with the punches when they understand the reasoning behind what’s happening. Number 1 Problem with Bosses.

2. Engage in small talk.

You may think small talk is counter-productive at work, but employees are more likely to trust you if they feel like they know you. Inquiring about their families, hobbies, or interests in a genuine way is a good way to foster trust and more open communication.

3. Listen more; talk less.

There are two major components of effective communication and one of them is listening — yet it’s often overlooked as a management skill. Try active listening where you paraphrase and repeat back what the other person has just said. It not only gives them the opportunity to clarify if you’ve misunderstood something, but it also forces you to listen to them, instead of thinking about how you plan to respond.

Number 1 Problem with Bosses.

4. Think about communications preferences.

You probably already know that some of us are visual learners and some auditory learners, but that extends well outside the classroom. Some employees will do just fine talking about complex issues, while others will prefer to have the conversation outlined in writing. If you can discover each employee’s preference, you can ensure you’re reaching out in a way they’ll understand.

5. Keep feedback constructive.

If employees feel constantly under attack or criticism, they may be reluctant to open the lines of communication for any reason. Practice offering constructive feedback paired with praise, and always remember to only criticize the act, never the person.

Number 1 Problem with Bosses.

One final bonus tip: never stop practicing. You may think you’re a stellar communicator — until faced with an employee whose communication style is completely different from your own, or you find yourself in a stressful situation. Keep seeking out ways to learn, practice, and improve your communications skills to be one of the workforce’s beloved bosses, rather than one of the dreaded ones.

So, it is quite obvious what this Number 1 Problem with Bosses is and how we can solve it.

What Women Wants in Relationships

Women wantsWhat Women Wants in Relationships

Have you ever wondered what women wants in relationships? What your partner really wants in your relationship? She is too complicated; I can’t figure her out, she says this and expects something else. Worry no more love, things that makes women satisfied in relationships are quite simple.

Understanding

Being understood is the ultimate. Women wants to be understood; they want you to read between the sentence of their words and actions, that sounds difficult, but still that’s what women wants. It’s important for women to have men who understand them. It’s also important for women to help men understand how to listen. Men often don’t have a clue they’re being bad listeners.

Time

Of all the things women wants, time is essential. Majority of women in happy relationships get 30 minutes of uninterrupted time with their partner each day. Twenty-four percent of women who claim to be in unhappy relationships spend fewer than five minutes a day with their men.

Ask yourself, “How much time do I spend with my woman?” Uninterrupted time means time spent without phones, internet and sports; a conversation with nothing else on. Women wants time with their man.

Appreciation

Women are usually underappreciated, in a relationship it most often seems like it’s the men that do all the work, but that is not true. Most women aid their partners in various ways, they stand by you in tough times, and married women take care of the children and sometimes feed the family. And in the women’s part, they should be expressive of what makes them feel appreciated, saying, “These are the kinds of things I like … x, y and z.” Men should listen, and women should tune in when their man are appreciative.

Fun

This is one of those things that often goes out the window, especially after the first few months in a relationship. After these few months, your relationship seems like a job, it’s life dies off as well as the fun; you act like 50 year old couples, claiming to be busy with work and other things. Couples should set up a date night — once every week, go on vacations, and do other random fun activities to keep the spark on. Women wants to have fun.

Kind Gestures

Hugs, kisses, unexpected telephone calls to say I love you, simple surprises like a flower under her pillow, and other several simple gestures. Any kind gesture that takes 30 seconds or less. If a man can do this for his partner for one month, both will be amazed at how much better they feel in the relationship.

You see, what women wants is quite simple, having a healthy relationship doesn’t happen by magic, it requires work, lots of work and dedication from both parties.

The Ghetto Lord, Wizkid (born as Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun) is a Nigerian recording artist, songwriter and performer.

His first song featured OJB Jezreel. The song was met with great reception throughout Surulere. At the age of 15, he was mentored by Naeto C. WORDS FROM MY HEART TO YOU

words

Words from my heart

Ever sat down with that special person and the words don’t seem to come out right? I Can help with that.

Here are words to tell that special person to let them know just how much they mean to you.

  • When I’m with you I’m no longer wandering. When I’m with you I swear I can’t breathe and I know I’m exactly where I want be.
  • I could stay here with you forever because to me no one else exists.
  • All day long I’ve been waiting to spend time with you, let’s do this everyday for the rest of our lives.
  • To me you’re so special that I can’t do anything without thinking about your lovely face.
  • I’m my best self when I’m with you.
  • I never dreamed I’d love anyone this dearly until I met you.
  • I’d like to meet you for the first time everyday of my life so I can have that feeling which only you bring.
  • I want you to know that you have my heart, now and always.
  • The word “love” just isn’t big enough to describe my feelings for you.
  • I could write you a love letter and read it to you but I would be understating the things my heart feel true.
  • You are my sunrise, my sunshine and my moonbeam, you’re my personal northern light.
  • I could burn through a thousand suns and yet the pain won’t show the extent of my love for you.
  • I would have come for you sooner but my princess, I had to fight a fierce dragon just to get to you.

The possibilities are endless with words, but let them come from your heart. As these words are from my heart.

These are not for you my dear viewers. They are for the girl that means so much to me and I’d do anything for her.

wilson loveTHE SECRET LIFE OF WILSON LOVE Episode 4

The Secret Life of Wilson Love episodes one through three didn’t relay any secrets, I know and I’m really sorry. You know this writing thing isn’t an easy task. One keeps trying hard to come up with new ideas, remember this is a true story that I came up with myself.

…The sky was gay (please the word ‘gay’ here does not refer to the sky being a Homosexual, nah! It is used as an adjective meaning the sky was bright and attractive, and this is according to the old-fashioned use of the word by the Cambridge Dictionary); Wilson Love just sat in front of the Boys Hostel where he resided and watched as people were taking strolls, in groups, couples and individuals alike,

I don’t think I was ever made to find real happiness in the opposite sex, sometimes I just wished that I was gay, at least the ones I know are really happy

,he said to his cousin, Emeka as he sat down to join him. (Now the word ‘gay’ in the statement above is for the Homosexual meaning) Emeka brought out a wrap of beef burger, took a big bite from it and started munching as though he did not hear a word his cousin uttered.

He kept on eating till his course mate; Ivy held him from behind and startled him. He yelled at her that she shouldn’t do a thing like that again so as not to make him choke. She apologized and looked at Wilson, surprised that the jovial, ever-happy Wilson Love had a frown on his face then sat beside him. She asked him,

What makes the almighty Wilson Love sulk so much this fine evening?

Emeka quickly answered on Wilson’s behalf,

my awesome brother that made a bet with me that he’ll not fall for any other girl anytime soon seems to be on the verge of losing out on it. I am so happy that I’ll soon have more cash at my disposal.

Ivy shrugged her shoulder then asked,

Is that the reason he is this way? Just because he will lose a bet?

Wilson jerked up at the questions and said,

I am not sad about the stupid bet. I am just tired of falling for the wrong girls. Come to think of it, you stay in the Girls Hostel dear; do you by any chance know a pretty girl called Nneoma? She is in Parasitology, 200level.

Ivy said she knew her and inquired why Wilson Love was asking. Wilson stood up and answered her, wilson love

I met her yesterday and she gave me her phone number but it hasn’t been going through. I believe she must have given me wrong number.

“Hmmm…” said Ivy as she also stood up and walked right up to Wilson Love,

the Nneoma that I know will never give someone a fake phone number rather she’ll refuse giving you. So, she probably made a mistake, I will let her know you said hi when next I see her.

Wilson just bowed his head, sat back down and said,

That will be fine dear. Thank you so much and please help me tell her the mix up with the phone number.

Ivy bade them goodbye and left for her hostel. Emeka patted his cousin on his shoulder and said to him,

although you’ll soon lose your money I believe you’ll still find happiness. I have a right feeling about this particular girl and know it will turn out fine.

Wilson Love looked up and answered,

I just hope so bro, I really do. I don’t think I can survive another saga of heartbreak. I need someone who’ll help me get through my remaining days in school and I’ll probably end up with for eternity.

Yawning, Emeka stretched and dragged Wilson up for them to go in for the night. They got to their room and Wilson Love just jumped on his bed to keep trying the phone number of the beautiful Nneoma, but to no avail. He dropped his phone and slept off thinking of the girl he met on that fateful Monday…wilson loveAnd the secret isn’t out yet but I have a funny feeling it’ll be out in the open in the next episode so don’t lose hope and remain expectant. (Don’t tell Ben; he asked me not to reveal the secret to you guys yet but I’ll do that in the next episode) TalksFriendite is here to keep you entertained and educated.

Peace!!!

writers secretsWRITERS SECRETS

Writers Secrets is actually a post originally written by Ali Luke of Aliventures. I decided to share this with you guys because it seemed interesting to me. After reading it I also found out that I share the same reasoning with her so with a few tweaks and changes I give you the ‘WRITERS SECRETS‘.

A few years ago, I’d look at published writers and think that they were somehow different from me. After all, their books were gripping and fluent – unlike my stumbling attempts at first drafts. Their blogs had hundreds or thousands of readers. (I’m getting there… winks*) Writers Secrets

They were real writers. And, deep down, I was afraid that I could never really become one of them.

Writers Secrets

But as I’ve taken more and more steps into the writing world, I’ve realized that my perception just doesn’t match up to the reality. Writers – at all levels – have just the same struggles as you and me.

I’m going to go through eight writer’s secrets. Eight things which all writers know – but which you might never hear them admit.

Secret #1: Writing is Hard

Writing is easy: All you do is sit staring at a blank sheet of paper until drops of blood form on your forehead. (Gene Fowler)

There’s a myth – not just in the writing world – that if you’re good at something, it’ll be easy. And established writers, me included, do have writing sessions where the words flow smoothly.

The truth is, though, that writing is hard. Some types of writing are tougher than others. But almost any type of writing will cause some sort of resistance – getting started is never easy. And very few writers, however experienced, can turn out a great draft first time. Writers Secrets REVEALED!!!

Use It: Getting started is nearly always tough. There’s nothing wrong with you if you find it hard to sit down and write. But like exercise, once you get going, it gets easier.

Secret #2: We All Struggle With Procrastination

There’s only one person who needs a glass of water oftener than a small child tucked in for the night, and that’s a writer sitting down to write. (Mignon McLaughlin, The Second Neurotic’s Notebook)

I’ve seen a few writers talk about this, often in a jokey way: we procrastinate. This isn’t just the case for beginners.

Writing Magazine columnist Jane Wenham-Jones, for instance, writes quite openly about her struggles to just get on with writing. (And she’s had several novels and non-fiction books published – plus many short stories and articles.)

Procrastination can come in a couple of different forms:

  • You do the dishes, weed the garden, tidy your desk, sharpen your pencils … anything but sit down and put words on a page.
  • You write, regularly – perhaps blog posts or journal entries – but you never get round to starting that novel or memoir or other big, meaningful project.

This form is, I think, fairly harmless; it’s easy to spot yourself doing it, and there are easy tricks for “just getting on with it”. The second type is more insidious – it’s easy to kid yourself that you’re just not ready to tackle something longer or more complex, even when you’ve been putting off that project for years.

Writers Secrets

Use It: Take a good hard look at your own writing. Are you procrastinating on something? What would it take for you to get moving on it?

Secret #3: We Put Ourselves Into Our Work

Every author in some way portrays himself in his works, even if it be against his will. (Goethe)

Anything and everything you write says something about you as a person, whether you want it to or not. Even your choice of what to write about – the decision that something is worth putting down in words – is significant.

It doesn’t end there. Writers (particularly good ones) deliberately draw on their own lives. If you know enough about a novelist, you can almost always spot some autobiographical element in their work. If you knew someone closely enough, you’d see that they pour in their childhood memories (the good and the bad), life experiences, hurts and dreams. Writers Secrets

Use It: Dig incidences out of your past – they can be tiny things, so long as they have emotional power. Put them into your writing. There’s a truth in these which can bring your work to life.

Secret #4: First Drafts are Always Crap

The only way I can get anything written at all is to write really, really shitty first drafts. The first draft is the child’s draft, where you let it all pour out and then let it romp all over the place, knowing that no one is going to see it and that you can shape it later. (Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird) (Writers Secrets)

Short, straightforward pieces may come out just-about-right the first time round. Most authors, though, will have first drafts which look vastly different from the finished product. I remember reading J.K. Rowling’s description of how she cut a whole character (sadly no longer on her website, but it’s mentioned in an interview here) from one of the Harry Potter books.

Writers Secrets – As a reader, you only get to see the finished product. You don’t have access to the fumbling, faltering first draft, which every author has to go through in order to get to the polished finished piece. But those drafts exist – buried or even burnt, their clumsy sentences and over-indulgent passages concealed from the world.

Use It: Don’t ever worry if a first draft doesn’t seem very good – especially if you’re writing fiction. If you can, take a look at a published author’s first draft and compare it with the finished work.

I do not know if it wrong to share these Writers Secrets with you, well I’ve started, haven’t I?

Writers Secrets

Secret #5: Each Piece Exists in a State of Flux – and it’s Never “Finished”

Art is never finished, only abandoned. (Leonardo da Vinci)

When you read a book or article or blog post, it feels fixed. You can’t really imagine it being any other way.

That’s not any writer’s experience of their work, though. Chances are, the piece began as a patchwork of ideas.

Whole chunks – chapters, scenes, paragraphs – will have been moved around, cut, added, expanded. There would have been plenty of times when the writer had a coin-toss decision between taking one direction and another. Writers Secrets

Because of this, the work never feels finished to its own author: there’s always the potential for some more tweaking. At some point, though, every writer has to let their work go.

Use It: Aim for completion, rather than perfection. You’re never going to feel like a piece of writing is quite as finished as it could be. Send it out into the world – it will only truly be complete once it has readers.

Secret #6: We Do it Because We’re Obsessed

An incurable itch for scribbling takes possession of many, and grows inveterate in their insane breasts. (Juvenal, Satires, around 100 AD)

writers secretsWriters Secrets

Normal people aren’t writers. Most people (much to my horror) dislike writing. They might only read one or two books every year. They certainly don’t see any reason to put their thoughts down in writing, whether that’s as a blog, a journal or a story.

If you’re writing, you’ve got a certain obsession. Some writers talk about their need to write – and even believe that they couldn’t live without it. Even when I blog, once I start I do not want to stop, I tell myself “one more” and find myself writing one more extra & another extra. I certainly find it very hard to imagine a life where I didn’t write at all.

Use It: Accept that you’re a bit weird – and revel in it! Make time for your writing – sure, the rest of the world might not understand, but they’re not writers.

Secret #7: Money Does Matter

Nobody but a blockhead ever wrote except for money. (Samuel Johnson)

While many writers carry on because they’re a bit obsessed, there are very few who don’t have some ideas about making money from it. After all, if you can make a living from your writing, you get to spend your work day with words – not just your evenings and weekends.

Writers don’t necessarily love or even agree with everything they write. I’ve written on topics like Apple Watch Luxury Item, not because I had any particular interest in it, but because I was being paid. Writers Secrets

There’s no shame in making money from creative work – whatever the beret-wearing types would have you believe.

Use It: If you want to make money as a writer, start paying attention to the market. Some sorts of writing (e.g. web copy, specialized non-fiction) are a lot more lucrative than other types (e.g. poetry). Don’t be afraid to try something new: you might enjoy it more than you think, and it might be the first step to turning your writing into an actual career.

Secret #8: We All Struggle With Self-Doubt

This is what I’ve been thinking lately: I’m getting worse. My writing just isn’t as good as it used to be. With every new story I write I believe I’ve lost something—the spark, the raw energy, the ability to see the scene, to tell the truth, to imagine. I look at my stories and feel like they could be so much better. (Jessie Morrison, MFA Confidential Blog for Writer’s Digest)

You’ll come across the occasional supremely confident writer. In my experience, those people tend not to be very successful. Good writers are often riddled with self-doubt – and as they get better and better, they’re also more and more able to spot the flaws in their own work.

Writers Secrets

Self-doubt can be very destructive, and can cripple your ability to write. It’s something to stand firm against – but it’s important to remember that you’re not the only writer who goes through it. There’s nothing wrong with you if you have a little voice in your head saying “Who’d want to read THAT?”

Use It: Next time you doubt yourself, keep going anyway. Put doubts about your work aside when you’re drafting – save them for when you need to edit.

Now you see that we are mere human beings like you and pass through the same things you do. A little appreciation for our work will go a long way (smiles) so start reading more and give us reasons to write more. Writers Secrets Revealed.

WHY, Best Management Tool

best management toolWhy, Best Management Tool You Have

Why, best management tool. Toyota has the five Whys. Other organizations have seven or three. The point of the whys, however many you use, is to understand the root cause of a thing. For example:

We’re not going to make our numbers this quarter.

Why?

Because we’ve been down two sales people for the last two months.

Why?

Because they both quit abruptly and we haven’t been able to replace them.

Why?

Because we weren’t prepared to hire new people and had to start from scratch.

Why?

Because we don’t have a pipeline set up for hiring new people.

Why?

Because we thought it was an unnecessary expense of time and energy.

Why may be the Best Management Tool

The point is, there’s a lot of information to be gleaned by asking the question why. You can usually get to the root of a problem and you can certainly learn a lot from the person answering the why questions.

I was involved in a situation once where an employee kept coming in late. They called her in and asked Why? She plainly said that she’d been going out a lot with friends lately and simply wasn’t making work a priority in her life. (Why may be the Best Management Tool)

Bingo. So the manager asked her how she thought she would avoid being late in the future and she rather flippantly replied;

I don’t know, maybe I’ll buy a better alarm clock.

When she left the manager looked at me and said,

She’s going to be late again, isn’t she?”

I replied,

Yep

He frowned and asked,

I’m going to have to fire her aren’t I?”

I answered,

Probably

Why may be the Best Management Tool

As it turned out, a few days later, the employee just no-showed and that was that. At least they had a resolution, just from the simple act of asking Why? Up to then, the manager had been making excuses for her, hypothesizing and guessing at a justification or rationalization. It got so bad, they finally had to deal with it. But if they had asked her earlier they would have seen much earlier that her attitude was cavalier and disinterested and there wasn’t much point in investing in a solution.

Why can also help you see if you have someone who is going to take responsibility for his or her actions or point fingers and lay blame. (Best Management Tool) Sometimes it is the other guy’s fault. Clients don’t get back to you with feedback in time to finish the project by deadline. Or a key team member is out with the flu.

But if a person’s habitual answer to the question Why? is to blame someone else, that tells you you’re dealing with an irresponsible employee who can’t take ownership of a project or his or her own mistakes. Nobody grows from that place.

Why may be the Best Management Tool – Why? shows other things as well. If you ask someone Why? he left a company and he says he had a new manager and he didn’t like the manager, you ask Why? again and you learn a lot about what kind of people this candidate likes to work with and doesn’t and how he sees his role.

Sometimes, people feel funny asking Why? It feels rude not to accept the surface answer someone gives you.

Clearly, they’ve revealed all they’re comfortable revealing. So you have to build this kind of inquiry into your culture—candidate interviews and interrogation of projects and processes–so that people know not only that they are going to have to be able to answer these for others, but they begin to ask them of themselves. That’s a great way to wind up with a workforce that takes responsibility for, and really thinks through its actions.

From the above article it is obvious that the question ‘Why?’ is a vital asset in managing your staff and business.

Bear in mind from today that Why may be the Best Management Tool you have.

WORTHY COLLEGE EXPERIENCES

worthy college experiencesCollege is worth it if you have these six experiences

Worthy College Experiences – A college degree is something Americans have always valued. Even Americans without a college degree believe that education beyond high school is important. But recent Gallup research indicates that 25% of all college graduates in the US fail to thrive in their overall careers and lives. Gallup has found six elements of emotional support and experiential learning in college that are correlated with long-term career and life success, and one-quarter of college graduates—who otherwise met the academic standards to get a diploma—missed out on all six of these critical elements. These graduates’ outcomes—compared with those who hit all six—are so drastically worse off that it calls into question the value of their collegiate experience. Worthy College Experiences

The Gallup-Purdue Index—a massive study of 30,000 college graduates in the US—measured the degree to which graduates were engaged in their work and thriving in their purpose, social, financial, community, and physical well-being. Worthy College Experiences. These measures of workplace engagement and well-being are important because they are predictive of critical outcomes such as worker productivity, absenteeism, and healthcare cost burden, among many others.

Beyond simply measuring graduates’ earnings—an important but very narrow measure of success—Gallup looked at the whole picture. Using these broader and arguably more important outcome measures, Gallup has found that simply getting a degree is not enough. Worthy College Experiences

A degree has always been a marker of accomplishment—something that conveys value to the degree holder, employers, and society. Through the lens of Gallup’s research, it’s still true that a college degree is worth its weight in gold, but only for those graduates (and their alma maters) who made the most of their higher education experience as students. Graduates who strongly agree they had the following six experiences in college—which Gallup refers to as the “Big Six”—perform markedly better on every measure of long-term success compared with graduates who missed the mark on these experiences:

  1. a professor who made them excited about learning
  2. professors who cared about them as a person
  3. a mentor who encouraged them to pursue their goals and dreams
  4. worked on a long-term project
  5. had a job or internship where they applied what they were learning
  6. were extremely involved in extra-curricular activities

Worthy College Experiences

Graduates who hit the mark on experiencing the “Big Six” are significantly more likely than those who didn’t to strongly agree college prepared them for life outside of college, to be considered “thriving” in all five elements of well-being and to be engaged at work. And the percentage of those who finished their degree in four years or less is significantly higher among those who experienced the “Big Six” than among those who did not, 75% vs. 61% respectively. Keep in mind, these are all college graduates here. The differences in their outcomes, though, is astounding.worthy college experiencesIs a college degree worth it? The good news is that for most college graduates the answer is: “yes.” But only if they made the most of it. For those who didn’t—which is a whopping 25% of all graduates—it’s a very different answer. Worthy College Experiences

This finding doesn’t in any way devalue higher education. But it does force us all to get serious about how we maximize the opportunity of higher education.

It starts with changing what we believe. If we believe a college degree is an automatic ticket to a better career and life, we fail. Students, parents, higher education staff and faculty, and employers need to work hard to ensure we are collectively making the most of it. If we believe the only measure of success is salary, we fail. There is so much more value to college than what we are systematically measuring now. We ought to pay careful attention to these less traditional measures and the things that correlate with them. Worthy College Experiences

If we are concerned about graduates’ feelings of preparedness for the real world, their engagement in their work, their overall well-being and their on-time graduation rates, then we ought to redesign what the requirements of graduation entail. If it’s merely course credits and exams—without any of the crucial emotional support and experiential learning—we fail. Worthy College Experiences. The good news is we have an idea of what the winning formula looks like. Now we need to help parents and students understand how to make the most of college, and redesign accreditation and higher education values, models, and reward systems accordingly.

CHARGING ELECTRIC VEHICLES

charging electric vehiclesFINDING EASIER WAYS TO CHARGE ELECTRIC VEHICLES

Charging Electric VehiclesJeremy McCool is convinced there is a better way to charge electric vehicles in a crowded city than using a wired plug.

Mr. McCool is founder and chief executive of Hevo Power, a Brooklyn-based start-up that is working to create a home for electric vehicles in an environment that is inherently challenging to them.charging electric vehicles

Charging Electric Vehicles

First, he and his team developed a wireless charger designed to look like an ordinary manhole cover and fit unobtrusively into the urban landscape. They are also working on what he calls a “green loading zone.” Electric trucks simply drive up and recharge wirelessly while they are parked. He plans to test the technology by the fall at New York University, on a grounds-keeping vehicle.

Mr. McCool said,

That day will be a long-awaited milestone for Hevo Power, which has been working on its products for several years.

It has felt like an impossible journey

Hevo developed its wireless charging platforms with the help of a $240,000 grant from New York State.

With vast numbers of apartment dwellers, New York, along with cities like Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia and San Francisco, represents the promise, and the challenges, of what is a large, still-untapped market for electric vehicles.

Jim Lapides, a spokesman for the National Multifamily Housing Council said,

New York City has the highest percentage of apartment households in the United States. That density, as well as government bureaucracy, cold weather, the difficulty of curbside recharging on busy streets and the high cost of owning a vehicle in a city in general, makes running an electric car a challenge.

But government officials remain committed to trying to encourage electric vehicle use, saying that even if only a small fraction of drivers switch to a plug-in car, the reduction in carbon emissions could be significant. Charging Electric Vehicles

For example, the Philadelphia Parking Authority has pursued a novel strategy — it lets residents reserve public spaces for an annual fee and pay for installation of chargers there. But only about 20 people have signed up, according to Martin O’Rourke, a spokesman for the authority.

Charging Electric Vehicles – In California, the epicenter of electric vehicle deployment, NRG eVgo, a charging provider, is offering a special deal for apartment and condominium dwellers through the state’s Take Charge program. Property owners pay nothing to have their parking wired for electric charging. Car owners then pay $39 a month as well as the cost of electricity, which is rebated to the property owner.

Terry O’Day, a vice president at NRG eVgo,

It’s been very challenging for renters in California who want to buy an EV. The need is clearly large. In Santa Monica, where he lives, Mr. O’Day said that 80 percent of residents live in rental or condo properties.

There is the prospect of many more chargers to come in California, though. Pacific Gas and Electric, a utility in the central and northern parts of the state, is proposing to install 25,000 chargers in its coverage area. That kind of density suits the region.

We have a little more than 60,000 EVs registered, and that’s more than 20 percent of the total in the United States

,said Jonathan Marshall, a spokesman for the utility.

Charging Electric Vehicles

But in New York, especially Manhattan and Brooklyn, the challenges remain high.

Manhattan is so dense and vertical that traditional approaches to charging don’t work

,said John Shipman, who runs electric vehicle programs at Con Edison, the city’s main utility.

However, the obstacles have not stopped a multitude of agencies and companies from trying to make it a reality, starting with the city itself. Amy Spitalnick, a spokeswoman for the mayor’s office, said that city fleets now have 825 plug-in vehicles of all types, and 203 charging stations, — “still the largest single network in New York State.”

Charging Electric Vehicles

Ms. Spitalnick also pointed to a new city law that requires 20 percent of new off-street parking to be built “charger-ready.” Mayor Bill de Blasio’s administration, she said,

has been aggressively increasing the city government’s use of electric vehicles, while continuing to partner with the private sector to expand charging infrastructure for private vehicles.

In 2013, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo introduced ChargeNY, which aims to put up to 40,000 plug-in vehicles and 3,000 public charging stations on state roads by 2018. According to state statistics, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority has supported 120 stations in New York City, though others have been installed without state help. Charging Electric Vehicles

The private sector also has New York in its sights. NRG eVgo is “in the early stages” of building a fast-charging network in the New York City region, said David Knox, a company spokesman. Car-Charging, based in Florida, has installed chargers in partnership with city parking garages and lots.

Some are being used quite often; others less so,

said Car-Charging’s chief executive, Michael D. Farkas,

We have a location at the Time Warner Center that is off the charts.charging electric vehicles

Mr. Farkas said that the electric car he sees most frequently in New York is the Tesla Model S. Khobi Brooklyn, a spokeswoman for the high-end maker of electric cars, said that the company was committed to making charging convenient in Manhattan, and was “in discussion with dozens of parking garages” that are interested in installing Tesla stations. Charging Electric Vehicles

Mr Shipman said,

There are currently 3,000 registered electric vehicles, including some operated by fleets, in Con Edison’s service territory, which includes New York City and Westchester County. It’s a fraction of the more than 2 million vehicles registered in the city alone.

Hevo Power, largely stymied in its efforts with manhole covers, said it was turning its attention to loading zones and fleets.

Charging Electric Vehicles – Hevo Power’s green loading zone would allow electric vehicles to charge and trucks to run their refrigeration units off available electric power.

Adam Lubinsky, managing principal at WXY Architecture + Urban Design, said his company had worked with the city to study the feasibility of such green zones.

Brett E. Skolnick, 63, who lives in Philadelphia and works in pharmaceutical development, is one electric car owner taking advantage of the Philadelphia Parking Authority’s program. He parks his Tesla Model S outside his home in the Fairmount neighborhood.

Charging Electric Vehicles

“We have no regrets,” he said, despite what he said were some minor problems. “The parking space has changed our lives in terms of being able to go out to dinner, visit friends and come back to an available space and charging.”

Pop da Question, Don’t Fright

pop da question

Pop Da Question

Pop da question, don’t fright. Am a feminist; am in the girl power movement, I believe in women having the right to express themselves. Women asking guys out on a date is a very controversial issue especially in Africa; some people view it as inappropriate. But let’s check this out; its ok for a man to express his feelings for a woman and it is not ok for a woman to do the same? In other words, women shouldn’t have feelings for a random guy and if she does, she should bury it and pray fervently that the man feels the same way towards her so he can make the first move. That’s OLDSCHOOL! If you like someone, you say it! Gender shouldn’t be a barrier, pop da question.

First, what are men’s perspectives on the topic? Real men find it admirable that a woman had guts to make the move, but jacks or better stills boys brag about it and trash talk the woman bold enough to do so. You can’t blame them, they are kids and you shouldn’t have any business with them, you ought to seek after real men. Pop da question.

Now, how do you ask him out and still look classy and not like a total desperado?

  1. Be ready for the worst: The very first point you should remember is that the worst outcome when you pop da question is that he would say a NO!
  2. Get familiar with him: Studies have shown that people easily start a relationship with friends; you have to create a sense of security.
  3. Drop a few hints: As far as possible never be way too direct. Drop a few hints when you are with him that going out with him would be great fun. If he understands them, well you are in for some fun times and if he isn’t try a little harder. If he still doesn’t get it then leave it as it might not be worth it.
  4. Call him on a group date: You can ask him to join you when you are going out with your friends so that if the supposed date isn’t going well, you can rely on your friends who would help you to escape from the embarrassment.
  5. Flirt a little: Healthy flirting is good and doing it with that cute guy with whom you have been looking forward to go on a date with is more fun. Make sure that you don’t come across too strong a flirt.
  6. Bump him at his favorite places: This doesn’t mean that you become a professional stalker. Once or twice bump him at his favorite places and jokingly but smartly ask him to stop following you and take you out for a real drink or dinner.

Don’t practice the above like they are chores, let it come natural, if you truly have feelings for him, it will come natural to you. Also, take time after each step to create an impact. When you have done all these and he hasn’t asked you out yet, then be the bigger person and pop da question. If it goes positive good, if he turns you down don’t try again, he is properly not the one for you. The most important thing is that you had the courage to express yourself. Go girl!!!…
