Dealing with Heartbreak

dealing with heartbreak

In my experience of dealing with heartbreak, it’s not as difficult as most people paint it to be neither is it easy to deal with; it’s like that itch that wouldn’t go away.

People come into our lives one way or the other, by fate or by whatever you believe it to be. For me fate is a wheel that turns and thus we are the sand that is crushed between the logs.

Dealing with heartbreak is one the hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with and still is never easy when it happens. But sometimes we actually bring it upon ourselves; for instance a relationship we knew from the start that wouldn’t last or even begin. For we have painted in our minds that perfect union that makes us loose sense of reality.

Some people say it’s better to have loved than to have not known love at all, that is true in most cases but for someone badly hurt they feel it’s better to have not loved at all. The sensation one gets from such a mortal blow to the heart is one that no physical injury could be compared to.

To be honest, there is no “perfect way” in dealing with heartbreak, because to each individual there is always something different that works. But anyway I would still like to give some tips on dealing with heartbreak;

dealing with heartbreak

  1. Remember first that you’re only human and there’s only so much you can do; learn to accept loss.
  2. Know that it was for the best and that someone better will come your way.
  3. It’s more psychological that emotional; you have to let go from your mind first and the healing process will begin.
  4. Listen to good music that will uplift your spirit
  5. Be in the midst of friends that will cheer you up and take your mind of it.
  6. Finally pray, because only God truly knows how you feel, and Him alone can heal a broken heart.

Love according to Ellen McCarthy

Love according to Ellen

Love according to Ellen McCarthy – Love is a controversial topic for me because unlike most people I think it’s nonexistent; as a kid, I believed in almost everything like Santa clause, Sand man, Tooth fairy and of course true love. But as I grew up, I realized that those believes were made just to give me hope. Well, that hasn’t changed yet, but I stumbled upon Ellen McCarthy’s research on love, it gives believers a clear insight on love and I decided to share it with you, you might benefit from a lesson or two on love.

Things you ought to know about love according to Ellen McCarthy:

  1. You Can Learn to be Good at Love “We like to think that we’re going to meet the right person and everything will magically fall into place, rather than thinking this is an area in our life that we can invest in and endeavor to be good at,” says McCarthy. In other words, romantic relationships are just like fitness, your finances, or your career—something you can put effort into and then see results. ’Love according to Ellen McCarthhy ’’
  2. Changing Who You Are to Impress Someone Never Pays Off McCarthy met a woman named Rebecca who spent her twenties contorting herself to please whatever guy she was dating at the moment. This approach was giving her stress headaches, and she eventually decided to give up pretending to be someone she wasn’t. So she treated herself to a week of ski school out West and got more in touch with herself than she’d been in years. That’s when she and her Argentinian ski school instructor fell in love. ’Love according to Ellen McCarthhy ’’
  3. Comfort Trumps Fireworks Every Time One word that McCarthy kept hearing again and again when interviewing couples about why they picked that person to spend the rest of their life with? Comfortable. But that’s not necessarily what people think to look for when they’re on the hunt for the ultimate lover. “We’re taught to look for lightning strikes, passion, and fireworks,” says McCarthy. But comfort makes a whole lot of sense. In a long-term marriage, you need to be able to let down your guard. ’Love according to Ellen McCarthy ’’
  4. Expectations? Yeah, You Can Throw Those Out the Window People think that finding the right person means that things will be perfect for the rest of their lives. But all relationships involve challenges and disagreements. To stay level-headed, it’s a good idea to lower your expectations of marriage and your spouse. You shouldn’t expect your partner to be your everything—your best friend, financial equal, co-parent, fulfiller of every sexual need, and entire support system. “It’s too much to place on anyone’s shoulders,” says McCarthy. It’s also just plain unrealistic. ’Love according to Ellen McCarthy ’’
  5. There’s Nothing Wrong with Online Dating Of the hundreds of couples McCarthy has met, she estimates that 30 to 40 percent of them met online. So for those of us who expect to meet our mate in some movie-worthy Nora Ephron-esque way, it’s probably never going to happen. “Who approaches a stranger in the produce aisle of the grocery store anymore?” asks McCarthy. She has a point. But the problem with online dating, she thinks, is that it can make people out to be products. Friendite.com isn’t Amazon.com, McCarthy warns. The stigma of online dating is almost entirely gone, but we shouldn’t short-sell the people on the other side of the screen. ’Love according to Ellen McCarthy ’’
  6. The Right Person Isn’t Going to Come in the Packaging You Expect One woman McCarthy came across really wanted a guy who could reach things high on a shelf. To her surprise, she fell in love with a shorter dude. Even McCarthy herself ended up with someone she never would have expected: She got married to a younger Jewish man who roots for the Washington Redskins in November 2012; even though she thought she’d end up with an older Irish, Catholic Buffalo Bills fan. It’s important to open your eyes and broaden your heart beyond any preconceived notion of what your perfect person will look like. ’Love according to Ellen McCarthy ’’Love according to Ellen
  7. The Golden Rule Will Help Your Relationship Stand the Test of Time McCarthy learned this simple lesson from Bob and Henry, a couple who met and fell in love during World War II but concealed their relationship for decades. She thought their secret to a strong relationship would have to do with perseverance or not caring what people said. But their words of wisdom were: “You have to be polite and be nice.” Treating your partner with the same courtesy and kindness as you would a stranger or a waiter is a pretty easy thing to do. ’Love according to Ellen McCarthy ’’
  8. Your Body Knows When Love Is True It’s natural to have doubts about your relationship from time to time. One thing that can help? Turning inward and asking yourself some key questions: Does this person feel like home? Can you breathe really well around him, or are you sucking in your stomach, holding your breath, or walking on egg shells? Ask yourself how staying with this person makes you feel. Ask yourself how leaving this person makes you feel. Your gut reaction to these questions will be very telling. ’Love according to Ellen McCarthy ’’

According to Ellen McCarthy, Love is not bliss, it takes lots of work and dedication. And I pray to be a believer someday.

10 HAIRDRESSER NEVER-TELLS TO CLIENT

10 Hairdresser Never-Tells – If you’re constantly trying to put your best face forward, you’d better be on good terms with your hairdresser. Sure, you’re savvy on who and when to tip—but there’s a lot more your stylist wishes you knew. Ever wonder what your hairdresser is really thinking when he’s elbow deep in your tresses? We asked stylists from around the country to sound off on everything they’ve been dying to tell you.

10 hairdresser never-tells

1. I probably can’t give you a celebrity’s hairstyle.

Don Bewley, cofounder of Eufora International Haircare in Carlsbad, California

Yes, we’d all love Jennifer Aniston’s shiny, sun-kissed locks. But even if your stylist can match a celeb’s color and cut, she can’t give you access to the team of professionals that the rich and famous have fixing their hair before every appearance. Bringing in pictures is great, but be open to adaptations that take into account your hair texture and bone structure. If you go in expecting a carbon copy of a red carpet style, “you may be very disappointed. 10 Hairdresser Never-Tells

2. Tell me exactly what “a little bit” means—even if you feel like you’re being nitpicky.

Brittany Molina, owner of Brittany’s Spa Salon in Jacksonville, Florida says,

We are not mind readers. Be prepared to talk specifics with your stylist. Saying, “Just don’t go too short” isn’t helpful. Show your stylist the exact length you want your hair. And if you request she take off two inches, make sure your definition of “two inches” is the same as hers. 10 Hairdresser Never-Tells

3. Please respect my time.

Bewley says that,

A busy hairdresser’s time is very valuable. Being five minutes late can throw off your stylist’s entire day. If you’re running late, call. And never pull a no-show. On the same note, don’t phone at the last minute and ask to get “squeezed in.” Your stylist will likely try to accommodate you, but it may mean staying late or rushing to finish another client first. 10 Hairdresser Never-Tells

4. I love getting to know my clients – to a point.

Don’t assume your stylist is eager to listen to you vent about your divorce or your overbearing boss. Bewley says,

After 10 clients a day, everyone’s problems start to weigh on us! Try to keep the conversation centered on fashion, beauty or wellness. And remember: This is your time to relax and feel beautiful—and your stylist’s time to focus on your hair.

5. A salon is not a daycare center.

Michael Boychuck, the personal hair colorist of Paris Hilton and owner of Las Vegas salons Color, Amp and Primp says,

Kids should not be brought to a salon unless they’re getting a service. Salons do their best to be kid-friendly, but stylists can’t focus on their clients and keep hot irons and chemicals out of little hands.

Emily Howard, owner of Moxie Parlour in San Francisco, California urges that,

Leave your dog at home, too. It’s against the law to have animals in salons, so don’t bring one in unless you’re willing to pay a hefty fine on the salon’s behalf. 10 Hairdresser Never-Tells

6. Put down your cell phone. And your lunch.

Molina recommends that you turn off your cell phone before the start of your appointment, she says,

Not only is your conversation distracting to other customers, your hairstylist can’t do her job if you’re reaching for your phone or moving your head from side to side.

And try not to eat when you’re getting your hair done. The constant motion isn’t doing your stylist—or your hair—any favors

,urges Boychuck.

7. I’m pushing my salon’s products because they’re better for your hair—not to make a few bucks.

10 Hairdresser Never-Tells – Bewley says,

Your stylist stocks products he believes in. It’s frustrating for him to see a client pay good money for great color or a trendy cut but then buy drugstore shampoo and conditioner to save a few bucks. Your stylist can tell you exactly what you need to maintain your hair – and save you from playing the drugstore guessing game. I’m here to give you the right advice. And I’ll gladly exchange anything that’s not working for you.

8. You know your hair better than anyone – tell me about it!

If you’re visiting a stylist for the first time, be upfront about your hair’s history, says Dickey, founder of the Hair Rules Salon in New York City. Did your last hairdresser use a relaxer? Do you know what he colored your hair with? The more information you have, the better. Previous chemical treatments will affect how the next ones set.

10 Hairdresser Never-Tells

And if you have especially thick hair, let the receptionist know when you book your appointment so she can allot enough time for you.

9. If you like my work, please let other people know!

Bewley says,

Referrals are hairstylists’ lifeblood. If you’re happy with your cut or color, tell your friends and coworkers. Passing on referrals can be mutually beneficial: If a new client comes in on your recommendation, your stylist will likely give you a discount the next time you visit the salon.

10 Hairdresser Never-Tells

10. You’re a walking billboard for my work.

Bewley says that,

Don’t go too long between colorings or let your haircut lose its shape. Your hair should be a positive reflection of your stylist’s work. If you’re not sure how to style a new cut once you get home, go back and ask questions. Your hairdresser wants you to look good, and would be more than happy to teach you the proper styling and finishing tips.

Harmless Things that will kill you

6 harmless foods that will kill you – Below are harmless food and water that are needed in your body but will definitely kill in care isn’t taken.

1. 120 cups of coffee6 harmless foods that will kill you

Coffee’s great for making you feel more alert and boosting your attention span, and at low doses, it’s perfectly safe.

But at high concentrations, caffeine can cause insomnia, dizziness, vomiting, headaches, and heart problems, and too much in one sitting can be deadly.

The risk of overdoing it is highest for pure powdered caffeine. A single tablespoon of this stuff — the equivalent of about 120 cups of coffee — can kill. During the summer of 2014, two young men died in separate incidents after each drank mixtures of pure powdered caffeine and water.

6 harmless foods that will kill you

2. 6 liters of water

Water regulates the shape of the cells inside our bodies — too much of it, and they puff up like balloons; too little, and they shrink.

An excess of water in and around our cells is called water intoxication, or hyponatremia. Drinking too much water, 6 harmless foods that will kill yousomething athletes can do accidentally while training, can cause it. A 2005 study of 2002 Boston Marathon runners, for example, found that about 1/6th of the runners they studied had a mild form of the condition, with symptoms ranging from nausea to vomiting. 6 harmless foods that will kill you

But an extreme case of water intoxication takes its worst toll on the brain, where our tightly-packed neurons have little room to accommodate the extra water. A variety of neurological problems can result, from headaches to confusion, seizures, and, in rare untreated cases, death.

One of the most well-known cases of water intoxication happened in 2007, when 28-year-old Californian Jennifer Strange downed six liters of water in under three hours as part of a radio station contest. Strange died a few hours later.

3. 22 Apples6 harmless foods that will kill you

Apples are delicious, and hardly deadly. But their seeds contain trace amounts of a sugar-cyanide compound that turns into the potentially lethal toxin hydrogen cyanide when it’s processed in the body.

6 harmless foods that will kill you

It’s estimated that apple seeds average around 700 miligrams of hydrogen cyanide per kilogram of dry weight, and about 1.5 miligrams of cyanide per kilogram of body weight can kill. That means you’d have to chew up and swallow about a half a cup of apple seeds in one sitting, or about 19-24 whole apples, to put yourself at risk.

Symptoms of mild cyanide poisoning include confusion, dizziness, headache, and vomiting. Bigger doses can lead to problems breathing and kidney failure and, in rare cases and if left untreated, death.

If you’re planning on noshing on a lot of apples at some point in the future (and you’re a little paranoid about the idea of poisoning), swallow the seeds whole. They’re more likely to pass through your digestive system unharmed this way. 6 harmless foods that will kill you

4. 84 chocolate bars

6 harmless foods that will kill you – Although it tastes delicious to us, chocolate contains enough of the toxic chemical theobromine to kill a small animal (that’s why you can’t feed it to pets).6 harmless foods that will kill you

The same ingredient can kill people too, but because we metabolize it so much better than cats or dogs, we’d have to eat far more of it to have any serious health effects.

In people, a potentially deadly dose of theobromine would be about 1,000 milligrams per kilogram, or the equivalent of about 85 full-sized chocolate bars. For cats, though, it’s just a fifth of that amount — so just a few small pieces of the candy could be dangerous.

5. 13 shots of alcohol in rapid succession.

You know drinking can blur your vision, slur your speech, mess with your memory, and make you slower to react.

6 harmless foods that will kill youBut those same effects can be deadly if we drink too much too quickly. 6 harmless foods that will kill you

Between 2006 and 2012, some 88,000 Americans died from excessive alcohol consumption. Many of these deaths were caused by alcohol poisoning, a glut of alcohol in the bloodstream which can cause the areas of the brain that control the functions that keep our bodies running – like our breathing and consciousness – to shut down.

Alcohol poisoning typically happens during a binge, when someone drinks a large amount of alcohol over a short period. For the average person, about 13 shots in the span of a few hours would be enough to kill, but the number varies widely depending on size, gender, and a variety of other factors.

6. A bunch of other snacks6 harmless foods that will kill you

A 2008 study found that the top 10 foods that are the most likely to cause choking in young children are hot dogs, peanuts, carrots, boned chicken, candy, meat, popcorn, fish with bones, sunflower seeds, and apples.

To avoid most of these hazards, de-bone chicken and fish, cut up hot dogs and apples into small pieces before giving them to kids, and avoid giving small children candy, peanuts, carrots, and sunflower seeds.

And those were the 6 harmless foods that will kill you, be careful and ingest wisely.

voices in my headPARANOIA OR WHAT?

Voices in my head keep telling me to run and to run really fast. I keep wandering why and it haunts me.

Sometimes I get these images of bloodshed, demolition of buildings and angry mobs pointing towards my direction. Is it just fear of the unknown or are these visions? Will it take place and why?

I surround myself with this line of questions every day because of the voices in my head.voices in my head

Most of you will say I am going crazy but I know that I am not; I am quite sane… or so. I don’t even know any more. I think I’m just being paranoid. Paranoia? Thought it was a thought process believed to be heavily influenced by anxiety or fear, often to the point of irrationality and delusion.

I can’t pin-point a particular thing that I’m scared of or what might cause anxiety. I live a problem free life and try so hard to be in everyone’s good books so why should the mob wanna hurt me?

I seriously need answers to these questions. The Voices in my Head are driving me crazy.

Concentration has begun to slip through my fingers; I feel I am turning to the ghost of myself. Sometimes I just fade out. It is not normal.

Woke up drenched in sweat again this morning; ran a very long distance last night. This time I was carrying a big book. I am quite pissed that I couldn’t get to see what was written on its cover but I believe the dream will repeat itself and maybe, just maybe I will begin to get a hang of these strange occurrences. Voices in my Head.

As if my head hasn’t played tricks enough, my eyes , ears, and every other part of me has joined in the prank.

Three days straight and three different strangers has worked up to me, one each day, with these same words,

brother, please help me, I am stranded and need a little cash from you

Three different days… three different locations… three different people. All saying the same thing.

Did I also dream that or is it the Voices in my head at it again? I need answers and please my readers if any of you have any answer or suggestion to what is happening to me I’’ll be grateful if you share it with me in the conversation box below.

…they are all around me… watching me… bidding their time. I can feel their eyes and I am afraid. Yes I said it, Khocee is afraid.voices in my headThey lurk in the darkest of shadows but I will not make my weaknesses known. They tempt me and wait for me to crack but I won’t give in to them. They infest my dreams, prolonging of my worst nightmares… you all can tell me that I’m paranoid but I know they are after me.

These voices in my head don’t lie and they sound so real. I hate it when they go silent though, because I can’t tell what they might be planning. I know they are not real but they got pretty good ideas.

Voices in my Head.

7 Social Media Never-Dos7 THINGS YOUNG PROFESSIONALS SHOULD NEVER DO ON SOCIAL MEDIA

7 Social Media Never-Dos – The digital realm has become the greatest asset for young professionals to boost their brands and promote themselves. Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook are all out social media that will assist in this task but it is paramount that you shouldn’t abuse them.

Below are tips by Lauren Fisher at Harper’s Bazaar to help you not to make such mistakes. Your well-being is important to me and that’s why I decided to share them with you. 7 Social Media Never-Dos

1) Complaining about your job, co-workers or boss. While this may seem like a no-brainer, sharing any negative feedback about your current job, employer or co-workers is the number one no-no. Don’t doubt that future (and current) employers will raise a red-flag at the slightest jab or complaint via Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc. Even a simple “dreading going to the office” or “bored at work” comment is a bad way to brand yourself in any industry.

7 Social Media Never-Dos

2) Sharing too much information. Know where to draw the line between your digital and personal life. Relationship issues, personal problems and TMI tidbits are best kept in private conversation rather than being attached to your personal brand online.

7 Social Media Never-Dos

3) Posting all of your partying pictures #AboutLastNight. There’s nothing wrong with posting a tasteful, fun photo from a night out with friends but when your Instagram feed or Facebook timeline starts to look like the outtake reel of The Hangover, then it’s a problem. Prospective and current employers will find a stream of drinking and partying photos to be a turn-off, even if you think it’s “all in good fun” you don’t want to be seen as the party animal job candidate. 7 Social Media Never-Dos

4) Inserting yourself in controversial conversations. While it’s okay to share your opinion, steer clear of topics or news that could be too controversial—i.e. religion, race, politics. If your opinion could be offensive, it’s best not to broadcast it all over the internet. Controversial remarks are a huge turn-off to potential employers and could cost you landing that dream interview.

7 Social Media Never-Dos

5) Going on a venting tirade. It may be tempting to go on a complaining spree via Twitter or Facebook, but you don’t want the negatives to outweigh the positives of your online personality. Keep your emotions in check—take a deep breath and think before you send out any bad vibes that may reflect badly on you in the future.

6) Aggressively networking for a job or interview. LinkedIn and Twitter are great tools to network with other professionals in your industry, but there’s a big difference between “networking” and “harassing.” Repeatedly sending messages or interview requests to potential employers through social media isn’t going to land you a job, it’s just going to come off as unprofessional. Use social media to seek out advice or start a conversation, not to beg for a job.

7 Social Media Never-Dos

7) Referencing illegal activities. Another no-brainer, photo or not (“joking” about it via Twitter or Facebook counts too)—anything that you wouldn’t do or say in front of a police officer, shouldn’t go on social media. Consider it the quickest way to sabotage your own career and personal brand.

happy-people (2)

There are moments when you realize that you ought to start living; when you’ve been doing the same things repeatedly for days or even months? Almost as though you’re on auto-pilot? That’s no way to live life; life’s about opening up your world to new experiences. It’s about adventure, even in the smallest form of the word. I coined up 20 ways to improve your boring lifestyle from the founder of Tiny Buddah; Lori Deschene ‘’ ways you can start living a more fulfilling life today’’

Don’t just exist, start living!

  1. Challenge your beliefs about what you can and can’t do.
  2. Challenge your ideas about how things should work. Sometimes when you decide how things should be you limit your ability to be effective in the world as it actually is.
  3. Have a vision session. Write in a journal, create a video, blog, sketch—anything that lets you explore what excites you most.
  4. Look for opportunities in a tough situation. Avoid a victim mentality, and opt instead for a “ready for new beginnings” attitude.
  5. Remove something from your life that doesn’t serve you to make room for something better and new. You never know what you might let in when you let something go.
  6. Commit to something you always say you’ll always fail to start—and then take the first step right now. Start living!
  7. Replace negative thoughts with positive ones. Positive energy creates positive results.
  8. Make an effort to connect with people you pass—smile and make eye contact for a little longer than usual. Being even slightly more open can open up your world.
  9. Say yes to something you always talk yourself out of—sing karaoke or take a kickboxing class. start living!
  10. Offer to help someone else. Sometimes it’s the best way to help yourself, and not just for the warm fuzzy feeling it provides. You never know what you’ll learn through the process.
  11. Compliment a stranger on something you notice. Everyone likes to be appreciated, and it’s a great way to start a conversation.
  12. Show up a half-hour early or leave thirty minutes late. You’ll get more done, you may impress your boss, and you might open yourself up to opportunities for growth, particularly if your coworkers aren’t around.
  13. Find a mentor. Find someone who does what you’d like to do for tips.
  14. Join frienditeplus.com to connect with like-minded people, or join friendite.com to meet  someone that will bring sparks in your life. start living!
  15. Take pictures of things you find interesting that other people might not notice.

Maybe you feel stuck or bored or frustrated; it’s not that you don’t like the life you live; it’s just that you suspect there’s something more. Some greater sense of meaning or excitement, new connections, new adventures, new possibilities. And yes there is. Its within your reach, start living!

Tandem Capital takes startups to Silicon Valley

Indian HNIs may have backed Tandem with the hope that Silicon Valley’s mature startup ecosystem can help startups scale globally and thus earn exits relatively easily.

Tandem, founded in 2007 by IIT Madras and Stanford-educated Oracle veteran Sunil Bhargava and another former Oracle executive Doug Renert, has had investors for its first two funds-$10 million Tandem I and $33 million Tandem II-mostly from Silicon Valley.

Armed with the new fund, Tandem is now drawing up a strategy to select a few Indian startups every year, take them to the Valley, help them find a product-market fit and fine-tune their go-to-market strategy.

Of more than 20 startups Tandem has invested in the last eight years, only two are based in India.

US-based entertainment company Game Show Network LLC acquired the gaming startup, which raised $1 million from Tandem and other investors in April 2012, for $165 million in March 2014.

According to Bhargava, the number of Indian companies in Tandem’s portfolio is poised to grow with the Indian startup ecosystem maturing.

Discarding the time-bound approach usually followed by accelerators, Tandem accepts startups anytime into their accelerator programme and desists from pushing companies to a ‘demo date’.

In the new $100 million fund, Tandem has decided to initially invest $200,000 to $300,000 in each startup and has reserved “a few million dollars” per startup for follow-on investment.

With its corpus tripling from its previous fund, Tandem is also now in a position to partner with startups beyond the acceleration phase, Bhargava said.

Even as Tandem finalises investment in a few more Indian startups, it is charting out a light engagement programme to help Indian startups connect with investors, mentors and customers in the US. “We want to do a light engagement programme for early stage companies who want a sounding board in Silicon Valley. We will put in $20,000-25000 in each company and let the startups spend some time in the Valley. We will connect them with investors there. We will select 15-20 startups for this programme,” said Bhargava.

Airbnb goes Dynamic Pricing

Beyond Pricing

Beyond Pricing & Airbnb

Several startups now offer tools that bring “Dynamic pricing” to Airbnb rentals.

When renting out rooms over online services like Airbnb, property owners can use tools like PriceLabs, Smart Host, and Beyond Pricing to automatically adjust prices according to supply, demand, and other market variables.

Beyond Pricing, which launched in early 2014, is now available in 26 cities, and according to Techcrunch, it controls $1 million worth of Airbnb bookings a week.

Today, their startup, the San Francisco-based PriceMethod, unveiled a new dynamic pricing tool for people who rent rooms over Airbnb and similar services.

Airbnb
Airbnb

The tool is just one of many supporting technologies that have sprung up around the so-called “Sharing economy.” With companies such as Airbnb and Uber offering popular smartphone apps that connect available rooms, rides, and other real world opportunities to people who need them, so many other companies are offering tools that seek to streamline these new markets.

Dynamic pricing is widely used in the hotel business.

When out-of-towners pour into a city for a conference, hotel owners will raise room prices.

When things slow down the off-season, they’ll lower price just enough to encourage new bookings.

According to Fraiman and Kitchell, this kind of thing is still far too rare in the world of Airbnb-despite the presence of tools such as Beyond Pricing.

Studying 367 hotels and over 5,500 peer-to-peer rentals in the San Francisco area, they found that pricing for hotels fluctuated wildly, while P2P rentals prices stayed rather flat.

According to their study, 60 percent of San Francisco P2P rentals maintained a single price for the year, and 80 percent used three or fewer prices per year.

Each day, the company considers billions of data points describing the market as a whole, and it layers on a number of other things that affect price, including the season, local events that can increase demand, and how far ahead someone is trying to book a room.

One tester, Carlos, says the tool has led to more bookings on at least some of his properties, and he plans to use it for all his properties in the future.

Airbnb did not respond to a request for comment on PriceMethod and similar tools.

Crowdfunding better startups

Crowdfunding better startups

In April, the regulator proposed allowing venture capital funds to invest up to 25% of their funds in foreign companies with an Indian connection, a move that experts said would benefit many Indian start-ups that are now being incorporated outside the country, with back offices and development and delivery centres usually being housed within the country. Crowdfunding better startups

Last June, Sebi put out proposed rules on crowdfunding but limited the number of investors from whom start-ups and small companies could raise money at 200, in keeping with India’s new companies law that limits the number of investors who can be involved in a private placement exercise at that number. Crowdfunding better startups

Sebi’s proposal was an attempt to solve the funding problems of start-ups and small companies.

By sticking to the framework of the new companies law, the regulator limited the number of investors and also prohibited the companies from publicizing their efforts through ads on other media channels.

The two restrictions didn’t go down well with companies, said a person familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified. Crowdfunding better startups

The two persons said that the new crowdfunding norms could be similar to the recently amended Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act, 2012, or JOBS Act, of the US, which allows companies to publicly advertise and market their investment opportunities, of whatever size, to accredited investors, including through the Internet or social media, as well as through print, radio or television. Crowdfunding better startups

“The new companies act has several clauses that make business tougher for companies, especially in the unlisted space,” Rajiv Dadlani, a member of Mumbai Angels, a group of angel investors that invest in early- and mid-stage companies, said.

“There is an exuberance in the start-up deal space and if these clauses of the companies act are relaxed, a more vibrant start-up ecosystem can be created.”

Following a series of meetings with start-ups and merchant bankers, on 30 March, Sebi proposed in a discussion paper an easier set of rules to allow local start-ups such as software product development firms and e-commerce ventures to raise capital through listing on stock exchanges. Crowdfunding better startups

According to Sebi, “New-age companies” having an innovative business model and belonging to the knowledge-based technology sector, where no person holds 25% or more of the pre-issue share capital, may access capital through the institutional platform.

NC IDEA Creating Winning

Winning NC IDEA

Great startup communities are built with many bricks – a network of resources that enable startups to flourish and grow.

A central part of that helpful ecosystem is NC IDEA, a private, not-for-profit whose mission since 2006 has been economic development in the state of North Carolina by creating winning startups, not just participating startups. NC IDEA

Because NC is in the name, most people assume it’s either a state agency or state funded – but it is private – you can think of it is an endowment that uses it’s proceeds to grow startups. NC IDEA

NC IDEA grows startups in two ways: Groundwork Labs – an accelerator-like program to help founders who have not much more than a raw idea, and NC IDEA Grants – a source of non-dilutive funds to fill the gap between a solid idea and equity funding.

The NC IDEA grant program awards approximately 10 grants of up to $50,000 each year.

We have developed a robust mechanism for evaluating startups and preparing them for the challenges they face. NC IDEA

We measure our success by the revenue and employment achieved by the startups we fund, and other funding milestones along the way.

Since 2006, NC IDEA has provided over $3.7 million dollars to 93 startups in North Carolina. NC IDEA

Screen Shot 2015-05-06 at 12.23.55 PM

To date, our grant companies have secured over $20 million dollars in non-equity funding, and raised over $70 million dollars in equity funding and 75 percent of grant recipients still remain in business today since the program’s inception.

Programmatically, Groundwork is just like an accelerator program – mentor driven, selective, and 3 months of space – but executed in our not-for-profit model – we offer the program to selected companies for free without taking an equity stake. NC IDEA

8 Groundwork companies have gone on to win NC IDEA grants and 12 have been accepted into accelerator programs including The Startup Factory, 500 Startups, TechStars, Healthbox and Blueprint Health.

So how did NC IDEA create an endowment that can afford to give away $500,000 each year and support a free accelerator program? It’s an interesting story – dating back to some state funding of a technology initiative back in 1981 – but too long for this blog – you can read the details here.

World Sexiest People – It seems that Kim Kardashian is having a major effect on yet another “sexiest” list.

According to a new survey by MissTravel, a destination dating website, its customers say the world’s sexiest women are from Armenia and the world’s sexiest men are from Ireland. The travel site polled over 110,000 Americans to determine who they thought was sexiest; last year, Australian men and Brazilian women topped MissTravel’s “hot” charts.

World Sexiest People

We can’t help but wonder if this new awareness has anything to do with a certain curvy Armenian-American recently visiting her ancestral homeland for an episode of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.”

Scroll down to see what nationalities made this year’s list of World Sexiest People:

How do they want to be among the sexiest girls when they won’t desist in taking sharwama, ice cream, point and kill, nkwobi, fish/chicken pepper soup and after which they sleep all through the day or watch movies.

Our ladies are too lazy to work out. The fat ones with the luck of having slim waists due to waist trainers that they use and huge hips are seen as sexy. Fallacy! Let us open our eyes to see the truth, our ladies need to start keeping fit. Gone are the days when men prefer them big. A word is enough for the wise. WORLD SEXIEST PEOPLE

Sleep naked tonight

Sleep Naked Tonight and Every night

Sleep naked tonight and every night; it is sexy and it cures insomnia. Adults are advised to get at least 8 hours sleep each day for good health, that’s not all sleeping in your birthday suit does not only improve your health, but helps you get much needed sleep.

  1. It’s good for your penis/vagina. Giving your private part some air is actually a really good idea. Tight underwear, sweaty workouts, and keeping it covered in clothes all the time can make a playground for breeding bacteria and yeast infections. Let it be free once in a while, and what better time than while you sleep? ‘Sleep naked tonight!’
  2. It’ll help you de-stress. Sleeping naked lowers cortisol — known as the “stress hormone” — as cortisol secretion is activated when you’re feeling under pressure. When your body is truly resting and recuperating (between 10:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m.) is when cortisol is at its lowest. ‘Sleep naked tonight!’
  3. You’ll sleep better. When you sleep, your body temperature naturally declines as part of your circadian rhythm as you sleep deeply. Sleeping in clothes or PJs can disrupt this, so ditch the outerwear and nod off in the nude. ‘Sleep naked tonight!
  4. It could strengthen your relationship. If you share a bed, the pair of you sleeping naked is a no-brainer way to increase intimacy — and something that has a high chance of leading to sex. ‘Sleep naked tonight!’
  5. It’ll keep you looking fresh. Naturopaths say that being too warm at night can disrupt the release of melatonin and anti-ageing hormones into your body. As ditching the clothes will regulate your body temperature, the hormone release should be regulated too. ‘Sleep naked tonight!’

Just imagine the feeling of laying in bed naked. You’re free of your pants and underwear. It’s just you sandwiched between two cool sheets. The feeling just makes you want to smile and it makes you feel more free. Everyone can use that kind of good feeling every now and then, and it may even help you be happier as a person. So, ditch your pajamas for good and sleep naked tonight!

Athletes Hall of FameATHLETES WITH AT LEAST 6 CHAMPIONSHIPS

Athletes Hall of Fame – Winning the most titles isn’t the only determining factor in ranking the best athletes of all time, but it certainly doesn’t hurt. As Tim Duncan continues his quest for a sixth NBA title with the Spurs, his legacy has already been written as one of the elite players of his generation. Winning a sixth title would put him on a very elite list, one that doesn’t even include Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant or Derek Jeter.

Athletes Hall of FameAthletes with at least six championships.

Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen – 6athletes hall of fame

Like Batman and Robin, Michael and Scottie were the dynamic duo of their era. Jordan’s accomplishments speak for themselves, as he’s still widely considered the best player in NBA history, but Pippen had a fantastic career in his own right as an elite defender and versatile offensive player.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar – 6

The best big man of his generation, Abdul-Jabbar will forever be remembered for his skyhook. In his prime, Abdul-Jabbar was an unstoppable force on the offensive end who also led the league in rebounds twice and blocks four times. He is still the NBA’s all-time points leader.

athletes hall of fame

Athletes Hall of Fame

Bob Cousy – 6

The always-smooth Cousy led the NBA in assists eight straight seasons, and also averaged 18.4 points per game for his career. Cousy helped lead the Boston Celtics to six NBA titles. He is regarded by many as the best point guard of all time.

Mark Messier – 6

Messier got used to winning early in his career with the Oilers, but he might be best be remembered for leading the New York Rangers to their first Stanley Cup win in 54 seasons in 1994. Along with winning six Stanley Cups in his career, Messier had 1,034 points. Athletes Hall of Fame

Eddie Collins – 6

Torso portrait of Hall of Famer, Edward Trowbridge 'Eddie' Collins, Philadelphia A's, holding his bat.
Torso portrait of Hall of Famer, Edward Trowbridge ‘Eddie’ Collins, Philadelphia A’s, holding his bat.

Collins won only one MVP award, but he’s known as one of the greatest baseball players of all time. During his 25-year career with the Philadelphia A’s and Chicago White Sox, Collins collected 3,315 hits.

Frank Ramsey, Jim Loscutoff – 7

Ramsey (pictured front row, first on left) made the Hall of Fame after winning seven titles with the Celtics in the late 50’s and early 60’s, while Loscutoff (No. 18 above) was just along for the ride. Both players had somewhat brief careers during one of Boston’s golden eras.

Robert Horry – 7

“Big Shot Bob” probably won’t ever make the Hall of Fame, but his contributions certainly aren’t lost on the three organizations for which he won a title. Horry won seven NBA championships between the Houston Rockets (2), Los Angeles Lakers (3), and San Antonio Spurs (2), but averaged only 7.0 points for his career.

Athletes Hall of Fame

Babe Ruth – 7

Athletes Hall of Fame
BABE RUTH

Arguably the greatest baseball player of all time, Ruth won seven World Series, trailing only a few fellow Yankees legends. But he only won four of them in New York. Babe won three World Series with the Boston Red Sox before joining the Bronx Bombers in 1920.

Tom Heinsohn, K.C. Jones, Tom “Satch” Sanders, John Havlicek – 8

Boston’s crew of eight-time title winners from the 60’s and 70’s will be known forever as one of the winningest groups of all time. All four were inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Red Kelly – 8

Respected both on the ice and off, Kelly won the Byng Trophy four times and is considered one of the greatest defensemen of his era. He won eight Stanley Cups with Detroit and Toronto before being inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Athletes Hall of Fame

Joe DiMaggio – 9

DiMaggio won nine World Series in his 13 seasons, while also taking three seasons off to serve in the military. Incredibly, he made the All-Star Game in every season that played, and also won three MVP awards.

Yogi Berra – 10

Athletes Hall of Fame

These days Berra is as famous for his quotes as his play on the field, so some forget that he’s one of the greatest catchers in MLB history. Berra won three MVPs, appeared in 15 All-Star Games and is the only player to win 10 World Series titles. Athletes Hall of Fame

Sam Jones – 10

Athletes Hall of Fame
BILL RUSSELL

Jones benefited from being on the incredible Celtics teams of the 50’s and 60’s, but it would be a stretch to say that he rode their coattails. The Hall of Famer averaged more than 20 points per game four times and was an impressive 46 percent shooter from the field as a guard.

Henry Richard – 11

The only NHL player to win 11 Stanley Cups, Richard led the NHL in assists twice and made four All-Star teams. Richard is certainly deserving of accolades, but the Hall of Famer also benefited from being in the right place at the right time.

Bill Russell – 11

Known as the greatest winner in NBA history, Russell revolutionized the role of the big man in basketball and won 11 titles in his 13 seasons as Boston’s center. He averaged an incredible 22.5 rebounds per game over his career and was the dominant defensive player of his era.

Hamon Law Broadly Aims

Hamon

Hamon Law Broadly Aims

Despite its shared namesake with the Filipino word for ham, France’s Hamon law feels more like eggs benedict without the bacon and with rotten eggs for that matter.

Before you accuse me of being a cold-hearted capitalist that is against the proletariat, let me state right up front that I am wary of the Loi Hamon exactly because I believe it runs counter to the interests of the very employees the law was conceived to protect.

While the main thrust of the law is to bolster the non-profit sector, the Hamon law broadly aims to restore power to employees.

Specifically, company directors planning to sell their firms to a third party are required to inform their employees as such two months in advance.

My favorite is the compliance with stock market regulations: French public companies must now disclose potentially sensitive and confidential M&A discussions with their entire workforce, janitors and all.

The good intentions of the Hamon legislation are clear: give employees of a target company a chance to mount a counter offer to a potential big bad outside acquirer feared to take control and restructure to the detriment of existing employees.

Unlike the U.S., China, or perhaps even Japan, the worlds top three economies; France is not a sufficiently large market for a company to restrict itself to its home turf.

Inevitably over time, companies that are inwardly focused on France alone will cede ground to global competitors.

A French company’s very survival – and the jobs of its workforce – may depend on its joining of forces with a foreign company.

Teaming up may trigger the Hamon law, which would then throw up an arbitrary two-month roadblock to such combinations.

Or perhaps in anticipation to avoid such a fate, a French company may consider relocating to a jurisdiction where the Loi Hamon cannot apply.

One such solution involves encapsulating the company inside a new holding company shell, which has none or few direct employees.

Although I’m not endorsing any solution that arguably violates the spirit of the law Hamon, I have to admire the creativity.

mom14 SIGNS YOUR MOM IS YOUR BEST FRIEND

Mom – Best friend forever; I cannot say that my mom is my best friend in the whole world. Nobody knows me better than her, and now that I have gotten older it’s easy to see how much we have in common. She’s my biggest cheerleader, and I look to her for advice occasionally but she isn’t my best friend because I don’t share everything with her. I know I’m not the only one out there with an incredibly cool mother, so here are 16 signs that your mom is your BFF. Mind you this post is basically for the female folks.

  2. She’s your favorite shopping buddy. And if she’s not with you, you’re texting her a picture of everything you buy.
  3. She will help you with tasks no other human being is willing to do. Why are moms so fearless?
  4. When you’re having a bad day, she’s the first person you call. She’s really good at calming you down. Is that the kind of stuff they teach you in secret mom school? Your mom has the right words to soothe your troubled mind.

  8. She worries about you like crazy, but you tolerate it. It’s out of love. It’s out of love. Just keep saying that over and over.
  9. She knows exactly how to make you laugh. Usually it’s out of embarrassment.mom
  10. She drops brutally honest advice on the regular. That’s what best friends are for.
