Microsoft Buys Startup LiveLoop

LiveLoop simply lets you view your PowerPoint, anywhere. Share presentations and run online meetings without installing software.

It will be a good match for the meeting-and-collaboration-specific software and services that Microsoft is installing on its new Surface Hub video conferencing system.

Microsoft Corporation is an American multinational corporation headquartered in Redmond, Washington, that develops, manufactures, licenses, supports and sells computer software, consumer electronics and personal computers and services.

Microsoft confirmed the acquisition of the office mobile app LL for an undisclosed amount.

“We are excited to welcome the talented team from LiveLoop to help build great collaboration across Office applications, part of our strategy and vision to reinvent productivity,” Microsoft said in a statement.

LiveLoop is an online service that allows multiple users to collaborate their work in PowerPoint presentations and other documents simultaneously.

Users can upload a slide then convert it to a URL that can be shared with other users.

“LiveLoop will be shutting down permanently on April 24th, 2015. New user registration and presentation upload have been disabled,” the notice wrote.

“Existing LiveLoop users: if you have any data you would like to retrieve from LiveLoop, please do so before April 24th. On April 24th, all presentations and user data will be permanently deleted.”

Microsoft has been buying small startups since last year.

Prior to LiveLoop, the company bought mobile email app Acompli in December and integrated it on the Outlook for iOS released last January.

Am fine dear, thank you.

Your are welcome, give me an insight on your background am sure people would like to know about that.

I am from Anambra state. I was born on 16th March, 1991 in Lagos state and am the first son of my parents.

A catwalk instructor, how did you come up with that?

I began instructing pageant contestants when I was in diploma, people usually come to me to style and coach them. And I enjoyed doing that, I love the runway, the modelling world, I love to see girls that are classy and posh, girls that can rock heels and strike the runway.

So, how has it been so far, Any challenges?

My biggest challenge right now is merging school with work. I miss several events because of school. Also, I need time to give a pageant the best routine. Apart from that, its been awesome. The reception I get from the southeast region has been encouraging. I have been nominated for several awards. I look forward to making southeast flawless in runway and pageantry.

How does she inspire you?

*laughs* Miss J is actually a guy.

Ohh!… really?

Yes. He  was the catwalk instructor for American Next Top Model, and he inspired me by making me believe that guys like me, who are passionate about the runway can also be instructors.

Are you working with any Modelling agency?

Currently, I work with Dazzle modelling agency. Dazzle modelling agency is a young agency, and its sole interest is to uplift young models.

Which other agency do you hope to work with?

Beth Modelling Agency, I see it is a bigger platform for me to showcase my skills.

Where do you  envision your career in five years?

I hope to achieve more in my career and enlarge my coat. In five years, I will be a founder of the biggest model academy. I will be helping young models discover their potentials.

Apart from being a catwalk instructor, what else are you into?

Am quite involve in a lot of things. I am an On Air Personality (OAP) for Unizik 94.1fm, a reporter for Aluta newspaper, a hair and fashion stylist and a photo director.

It’s important that everyone should be able to play a musical instrument and i’ll like to give you some tips on playing the guitar(acoustic).

The fear of most parents in this generation is that if their child/children learn an instrument they may not want to go to school again, that their children will pursue a musical career. Sadly, this kind of mindset makes the youth vunerable to evil vices.

The acoustic guitar is a string instrument and has 6 strings of different strength. Each of the strings give off a different sound when plucked.

The guitar is made up of the head, the neck and the body. The Head being where the  strings are attached to; the Neck is where you find the frets and the finger boards and the Body is where the somewhat circular opening is found that amplifies the song produced by the plucking or strumming of the strings.

The guitar is held with the neck on your left hand and the body on your right-hand side, you’ll see the importance of this soon. The strings from the top to bottom are E A D G B E. Yes the “E” is two because the first is a high E and the Other is a low “E”.

The guitar frets are numbered as seen above, this numbering is fixed and counting starts from begining of the neck.

As this is not a tutorial site i will go straight to teaching you your first four chords. The G chord, D chord, E minor and Cchord. With these four chords, you can play almost any song.

  Your left hand is numbered in this format  1-4. This is done because some of the musical notes make use of this number system. Remember i told you about the 6 strings? And holding the neck  on your left side? Read below and see the importance in chord formation

For the G chord,

this chord is played with your second finger on the sixth string of the 3rd fret, first finger fifth string of the 2nd fret and third and fourth finger on the second and first string of the 3rd fret respectively.  

N.B : the strings are numbered 1-6 from the bottom to the top. I Know it may not be easy to understand at first, but it will be in time.

For the D chord,

the first finger on the third string of the second fret, the second finger on the first string of the 2nd fret, the third finger on the second string of the 3rd fret.

For the E minor chord,

the second finger on the fifth string of the 2nd fret, the third finger on the fourth string of the same 2nd fret.

For the C chord,

the first finger on the second string of the 1st first, the second finger on the fourth string of the 2nd fret, and the third finger on the fifth string of the 3rd fret.

SEYI SHAY

Deborah Oluwaseyi Joshua professionally known by her stage name Seyi Shay, is a Nigerian based English singer-songwriter, recording artist, performer, and record producer.

Her Early Life

She was born on 21 December 1985 and raised in London, England to Nigerian parents. Her mother was from Northern Nigeria and her father is a native of Ife. She has two elder brothers and an older sister. She and her siblings were raised by their single mother. Shay grew up in a religious setting and felt like a single child during her adolescence. She started visiting Nigeria when she was two years old, and eventually attended the Command High School in Maryland, Lagos. She went back to London to complete her undergraduate studies. Her interest in music was influenced by members of her household. Her late mother was a chorister and her sister used to compose songs for TV. Moreover, her brother was a radio and club disc jockey.

Seyi Shay started performing at the age of 6, and was part of her secondary school choir. She performed for the London Community Gospel Choir during their world tour, which included 13 cities in Japan. Seyi was applauded for her performances in Japan. She studied music at a local UK college, and went on to study Business Management at the University of East London. Seyi Shay said that her mother wasn’t a staunch supporter of her musical ambitions. Moreover, her mother wanted her to become a doctor or lawyer. Prior to departing the Earth, her mother told her to focus on her music career and put God first.

Her Career

She wrote and produced three songs for the soundtrack to Konami’s video game Crime Life: Gang Wars (2005). She also wrote “You Will See”, a song that was included on Melanie C’s third studio album Beautiful Intentions (2005). Shay wrote “White Lies”, a song from Chip’s Transition album. In 2008, she became the lead singer for the now defunct pop girl group ‘From Above‘. The group signed a recording deal with Sony/Columbia and was managed by Mathew Knowles’ Music World Entertainment company. In November 2013, she signed an endorsement deal with telecommunications service provider Etisalat.

Her music career took an upswing when she signed her first ever record deal with No Apology, a record company affiliated with George Martin (commonly referred to as the “Fifth Beatle”). In 2006, Shay formed a girl band in the UK called Boadicea; they were managed by Ron Tom, the founder and manager of All Saints and Sugababes. The band separated after two years, and Shay decided to partake in the ‘From Above’ UK singing audition. After the conclusion of the audition, she emerged as the lead vocalist for the aforementioned defunct group. The group consisted of five girls, including Shay. They got signed to Mathew Knowles’ management company after performing for him. They were taken to Houston to undergo energetic vocal and dance trainings.

The group supported Beyoncé while she was in the UK for her ‘I Am’ World Tour. They presented an award at the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards and had their own MTV reality show called Breaking From Above, which aired in over 166 countries around the world. The group later disassembled and Shay had an opportunity to continue her management deal with Matthew Knowles, as well as secure a recording contract with Sony. Shay decided to joined Flytime Music after getting an offer from them. Seyi Shay has worked with a number of musicians, including Justin Timberlake, Brian Michael Cox, Darey, Bilal, Michelle Williams, Chip, Rob Knoxx, H-Money, and Cameron Wallace.

 
Seyi Shay was introduced to Sound Sultan during his visit to London in 2011. After listening to some of her demos, Sultan convinced her to relocate to Nigeria and pursue her musical career there. During a project with Sound Sultan in the UK, Shay was introduced to Cecil Hammond of Flytime Promotions. Hammond signed Shay to his record label (Flytime Music) and decided to launch her solo career in Nigeria. In 2013, Shay departed the record label. She said that while signed to the record label, she was very much in control of her brand which she joined to promote. Moreover, she said she still has a relationship with the label.

Inspiration & Role Models

Although her musical style is primarily a combination of Afropop and R&B, Seyi Shay doesn’t conform to a particular genre of music. She believes that her musical prowess spans different genres. She also said that her music draws from things that inspire her. Shay has cited her mother, Matthew Knowles, 2face Idibia, Beyonce, Tina Turner, Sound Sultan, Wizkid and Omawumi as mentors.

Notable Performances

Seyi Shay performed at the 2013 COSON song awards. In July 2013, she performed at one of Big Brother Africa 8’s live eviction shows. On 20 July 2013, she performed in Asaba for the 2013 edition of Star Music Trek. On 27 September 2013, Shay graced the stage at the Sisters with Soul concert, which was headlined by Mary J. Blige. On 20 November 2013, she performed “Bad” with Wale at the Johnnie Walker Step Up to VIP Lifestyle Launch event (held at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos). Shay was a supporting act on the Hennessy Artistry 2013 Club. In December 2013, she performed at the Harp Rhythm Unplugged concert. On 15 February 2014, Shay performed at Darey’s Love Like A Movie Concert alongside Kelly Rowland, D’banj, Tiwa Savage, Mo’ Eazy, Zaina, Timi Dakolo, Waje, Muna, JJC and Eva Alordiah, among others.

Upcoming Album

Seyi Shay is currently working on her upcoming debut studio album. Work on the album started as early as 2011. Shay has worked with a number of producers in Nigeria, including Jay Sleek, Tee Y Mix, Del B and Cobhams Asuquo. On 11 August 2011, she released “Loving Your Way” and “No Le Le”, two promotional singles that helped launched her singing career in Nigeria.

On 27 July 2012, Seyi Shay released “Irawo” as the upcoming album’s lead single. The song was produced by Del B and was originally titled “Erawo”. The remix of “Irawo”, featuring Vector, was released on 6 December 2012.
In August 2013, Shay released the album’s second single “Killin’ Me Softly” featuring Reggae singer Timaya. The song was written and produced by Del B. On 6 October 2013, Shay released “Ragga Ragga” and “Chairman” as the third and fourth singles from her upcoming debut studio album. The songs were produced by Del B. The latter features vocals from KCee, a recording artist who was present during the song’s composition. Prior to releasing the singles, Shay signed a partnership deal with the international talent company J-Management. On 8 January 2014, Shay released the music video for “Ragga Ragga”; it was shot and directed in Lagos by Peters. “Ragga Ragga” peaked at number 7 on MTV Base’s Official Naija Top 10 chart from 15 March through 19 March 2014.

Shay has been featured on the records of several promising artists, including Praiz, Mr. Walz, Yung GreyC and Amir.
On 1 April 2014, Seyi Shay released my favorite; ‘Murda’ featuring Naija’s Next Rated, Patoranking and Shaydee. The song was produced by Dokta Frabz. The song’s flows are to die for as Patoranking was the right pick for the job. The combination of Seyi and Pato murdered the song. Awesome!!!

He was Senior Vice President of Mobile and Digital Content at Google until March 2013, where he oversaw development of Android, an open-source operating system for smartphones. Rubin has seventeen patents for his inventions.

Y Rubin, the former Google whiz that created the Android mobile operating system and headed the company’s nascent efforts in robotics, has revealed his next act: a company that helps nurture startups.

Playground Global

His new company, called Playground Global, is based in Los Altos, Calif., and has raised $48 million, according to a regulatory filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Playground Global will instead offer advice and inroads in manufacturing to the young companies in exchange for equity, Rubin said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.

Rubin’s got good reason to publicize his Playground Global project.

Silicon Valley has become a hot place for physical hardware projects, after software and Internet companies had driven the market for the last several years.

Companies like smartwatch maker Pebble, home-video surveillance company Dropcam and the smart thermostat maker Nest have grabbed attention from the world’s largest tech companies, inspiring competition and acquisitions.

Google, Hewlett-Packard and venture capital firm Redpoint Ventures are among his backers, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Redpoint and HP confirmed the investment, as did Google, though the Internet giant declined to comment further.

He joined Google in 2005, when the company bought Android to make it the centerpiece of its mobile efforts.

Right before he left Google, he was heading the company’s robotics projects, part of Google’s secretive Google X research lab.

Before working on Android, Rubin ran a company called Danger, which made an advanced cell phone.

Unicorn

When social media software firm Sprinklr unveiled its latest funding last month, it vaulted into the club of “Unicorns,” or tech startups worth at least $1 billion.

While unicorns are supposed to be rare, mythical creatures, the proliferation of these billion-dollar startups has raised eyebrows as well as concerns in the fast-moving technology sector.

More than 80 tech firms can now be called unicorns, according to a Forbes Magazine list.

The venture capital research firm CB Insights lists 53 US-based unicorns, saying a flood of private equity investors seeking an early piece of the next tech superstar has fueled the hefty valuations.

The use of the term “Unicorn” began with a blog from investor Aileen Lee of Cowboy Ventures in late 2013, when there were just 39 of the creatures and an average of four “Born” each year.

While some of the unicorns appear to be headed for big things, unicorn fever has raised fears of a bubble in the private equity markets.

The unicorns include a handful of startups worth at least $10 billion, a group sometimes called the “Decacorns.” These include China’s Xiaomi, Airbnb, Pinterest and Dropbox, in addition to Uber and Snapchat.

Gurley, who has been a leading voice of caution on unicorns, said in a blog post that both investors and startups are pushing too hard, ignoring traditional standards of risk.

The online retail startup Fab.com, which raised $300 million and joined the unicorn club last year, ended up selling most of its assets in March to the manufacturing firm PCH in a deal reported to be worth just $15 million.

Sony acquired another former unicorn, the gaming service OnLive, recently for an undisclosed price.

Anant Sundaram, a professor at Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business who specializes in corporate valuations, said that while financial data on these unicorns is often limited, few have demonstrated an ability to grow revenues and establish a sustainable business.

In a blog post, Barris said he sees unicorns transforming the way we live.

Kevin Darnell Hart popularly known as Kevin Hart is an American actor, comedian, Writer and producer. He was born on July 6, 1979 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Hart’s Early Life

He was raised by his mother, Nancy Hart who he portrays as a loving, but intimidating woman. Nancy Hart died from cancer in 2007. His father, Henry Robert Witherspoon, was a cocaine addict and was in and out of jail throughout most of Kevin’s childhood.

My dad said I was supposed to be on drugs. I was like, ‘Dad, shut up,’ but then I thought about it, and it was stupid, but it made sense. He was saying that basically he was my example to never go down that road

Kevin Hart attended George Washington High School in Northeast Philadelphia, he also attended Temple University for two years, then he moved to New York City to attend Community College.

Career

Kelvin Hart worked as a shoe salesman in Brockton, Massachusetts. Then he performed in an amateur night club in Philadelphia, before he pursued a career in stand-up comedy. When asked how he discovered his comic side, Kevin Hart said:

I was probably around eleven. My mom was about to whup me, whup me with a belt. I said something she couldn’t help but laugh at, and I thought I might be funny. Cause if I could stop a whupping with comedy, I’m doing the right thing.

At first, Kevin Hart’s comedy career was rough, he had several failed attempts, he was booed off the stage several times and at one time a piece of chicken was thrown at him. He was persistent in succeeding, so he competed in several comedy competitions in Massachusetts. He had to make his comedy unique by using his life experiences and insecurities and that gave his career a bright turn. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Hart said:

Since then, Kevin has appeared in dozens of film and TV shows while still maintaining one of the most rigorous national comedic touring schedules around. As of December 2013, Kevin Hart has appeared in more than 30 feature films and 20 television shows. He has a net worth of about $40 million.

Personal Life

Kevin Hart got married to Torrei Hart, a comedian in 2003, they had two children Heaven and Hendrix. On February 2010, they filed for divorce due to irreconcilable differences and the divorce was finalized in November 2011. Presently, he is engaged to model Eniko Parrish since August 2014.

Startups could obtain green cards says “Obama”

Startups the world over spends a lot of time thinking of ways to vault hurdles and break down barriers.

One set of obstacles that could get a little easier to surmount are the immigration rules that keep foreign startups out of the United States and away from its talent and capital.

So says Adeo Ressi, founder of international incubator, Founder Institute, an organization that collects eager entrepreneurs through more than 100 chapters from Silicon Valley to Kabul and helps them launch their businesses with an 87% success rate.

According to Ressi, a White House representative – someone within the Office of Science and Technology Policy whom he declined to name – visited him and some of his Institute colleagues in Palo Alto on Jan. 30 and disclosed that within the year, President Barack Obama would likely sign an executive order that will allow promising startup leaders to obtain green cards and work visas to live in the United States temporarily.

Founder Institute head, Adeo Ressi suggested the White House could free up foreign startups to spend time in the U.S. Additionally, the Founder Institute proposed that if an entrepreneur is accepted by a credible incubator – i.e. one that produces a certain percentage of companies that meet the aforementioned funding standards – he or she would be granted a 9-month visa to stay in the country.

“The thesis,” says Ressi, “Is that we want to get the smart people at the beginning of their careers, give them enough time to come to the United States and raise either the $200,000 or the $750,000 necessary to get a longer term visa.” Ressi’s received no indication yet that the proposal will be adopted.

According to the post – written by deputy director for Technology and Innovation, Tom Kalil, and assistant director for Entrepreneurship, Doug Rand – the Department of Homeland Security would grant “Temporary ‘parole status’ to inventors, researchers, and entrepreneurs who may not qualify for the green card pathway” to permanent citizenship.

If Ressi is correct, foreign entrepreneurs with financial backing could arrive on American shores in droves, escaping less-than-advantageous startup policies and talent shortages in their homelands.

“This will siphon at least 5% up to 10% of all the top entrepreneurs all around the world to move to the United States,” says Ressi.

One hope for the countries that would lose these entrepreneurs is that the startups would adopt a model similar to one used by many Israeli entrepreneurs, moving their primary operations to the U.S. while maintaining R&D offices in their home country.

SAP Startup Focus to invest $7.3M

The SAP Startup Focus Acceleration Program is the self-explanatory title of an initiative undertaken by Singapore’s Infocomm Development Authority, enterprise software firm SAP Asia, and investment firm August Capital Partners.

The program has duration of two years and is open to all technology-based startups that are looking into smart city solutions based on data and analytics.

Those who are chosen for the program will collectively have access to an overall investment of S$10 million from ACP and IDA and mentorship from SAP executives, entrepreneurs, investors, and other prominent business figures.

While funding and even mentorship are things a startup can also get from a VC, the SAP program offers a few more interesting incentives.

“Under the program, SAP will work with IDA and ACP Ventures to provide startups with the technology, support, resources and community needed to develop new applications on SAP HANA and accelerate market traction,” SAP tells Tech in Asia via email.

In order to be chosen for the program, startups will be required to make their case at the SAP Startup Forum.

Along the way, it will be providing support in the form of reviews, technology, and consultation.

“Startups are encouraged to validate their HANA efforts with real customers and use that feedback to roadmap productive applications,” the company tells us.

“Once past the stage, the best solutions are promoted in several different ways, including potential opportunities to showcase the solutions with SAP at conferences and events, and various other co-branded marketing activities.”

The program funds will be distributed to participating startups on a “Company by company basis” according to ACP, with each startup being considered as an individual investment.

The Startup Focus Program has already had significant success, with over 1,250 startups from 55 countries participating in the program and covering various industries, supported by technology partners including Cisco, Intel, NetApp and VMWare.

Stephanie Coker

Stephanie Coker is an On-Air-Personality, TV presenter and an actress. The 26 years old presenter was born in Nigeria but relocated to North London with her family when she was a year old. Her father is from Badagry while her mother is from Abeokuta.

Stephanie Coker attended St. Mary’s Church of England Primary School, North London. And that was were she discovered her love for acting and storytelling.

I was a little bit spoilt and very hyperactive. I loved dancing but I was also shy. I went to a drama school and won dancing competitions. Music was a big influence in my life. Drama was also a passion but when it was taking up too much of my time, my parents advised me to drop it and focus on my studies instead.

She also obtained a degree in Mass Communication at Brunel University. Brunel University gave her a platform to experiment on her passion, She interned at production companies in London; MTV, Channel Four and Media Moguls PR. In summer 2010, she worked in New York, as a presenter and news editor at AIT in Nigeria. During one of her internships, a friend advised her to showcase and host an online show were students can showcase their talents, and from there she hosted more university events.

How Stephanie’s Career Boomed

In 2010, Stephanie won the MTV find my Freederm Presenter competition, in which she featured in a television advert that was broadcasted on a number of digital stations. In 2011 she landed a gig on a satellite station called the Community Channel, which was in partnership with BBC.

Stephanie Coker moved to Nigeria in 2011, where she got a job on Cool FM in which she co-anchored the Midday Oasis. She presents the countdown show Street Request for MTV Base Africa. Stephanie Cooker also host a few shows on Ebonylife TV network and she plays the part of Abigail on the hit TV soap, Tinsel.

No thought, her moving back to Nigeria has improved her career, and she acknowledged that in an interview with Punch:

I think Nigeria is very fulfilling and that’s why a lot of people are moving back here. For me, it has always been about the lifestyle. I feel UK is very strenuous and there is a bit too much order. You know what is going to happen next. It is not spontaneous, things don’t just happen, you have to plan. Though it is a good way to live, it can be a bit mundane and very boring.

On March 2015, Stephanie Coker signed a new management deal with J-management, a London-based talent company that also manages Sheyi Shey.

Zenefits

They can take a lesson from Zenefits, a clever human resources software company that helps small businesses manage their benefits.

Zenefits has unsettled nerves in the insurance industry but recently emerged triumphant from a huge battle in Utah.

Sometime soon Utah Governor Gary Herbert is expected to end a long stalemate between the company and the state by signing a bill allowing Zenefits to legally operate there.

Offering potential customers its software for free, Zenefits helps business owners deal with payroll, retirement funds, stock options and other HR chores.

If they end up buying coverage through the software, insurance companies pay Zenefits a 5% commission of the overall premium for the life of the policy.

Insurance brokers in several states have complained that they are losing business to Zenefits – and that its free software creates unfair competition.

In November, Utah’s Insurance Commissioner, Todd Kiser, who was actually appointed to the position by the aforementioned Governor Herbert, declared Zenefits illegal; according to Kiser, Zenefits is violating Utah’s rebates and inducement laws.

Like many other states, Utah has strict regulatory rules designed to make sure brokers don’t offer rebate benefits that might create unfair competition.

According to the Zenefits website, in late November Kiser ordered the company “To stop offering its free service to Utah businesses or face massive fines equal to $5,000 per violation, plus confiscation of all the company’s Utah revenue, plus penalties of 3 or 4 times that amount.” The state determined that Zenefits’ free services are “Indirect rebates” for buying insurance.

Instead of just accepting the ruling and moving out of Utah, Zenefits provided a road map for startups facing regulatory challenges in the future.

“If Utah is going to be a state that strongly supports free-market principles, you can’t protect incumbents from innovation and competition,” Parker Conrad, CEO and co-founder, told me in January.

“Let Utah’s small businesses choose who they want to use.”

PeerIQ raises $6 million

PeerIQ, a startup firm that is aims to be the go-to data provider for the growing peer-to-peer lending industry, has raised $6 million in funding from investors-including veteran Wall Street executives, venture capital firm Uprising, and boutique advisor Broadhaven-according to its chief executive.

Ram Ahluwalia, co-founder and CEO of New York-based PeerIQ, said the seed funding would help the New York-based startup build up its software to take in and analyze data from the growing universe of loans made through online marketplaces such as LendingClub Corp.

Some of these Wall Street “Angel investors” have backed other financial-tech startups, too, as excitement grows that banks’ traditional businesses will be hugely altered by new technologies.

He and Mr. Pandit also invested in Dataminr Inc., which analyzes tweets and other data for possible trading signals, and Mr. Pandit is a backer of Orchard, a platform that connects big investors with dozens of online lenders.

PeerIQ, founded last year, is developing tools that will analyze the performance and underlying risks of peer-to-peer loans, and will sell those tools to large investment firms.

Cautious investors have worried that without a full credit cycle’s worth of data; they can’t adequately predict how the loans will perform if the Federal Reserve raises interest rates sharply, or if the economy tumbles and borrowers struggle.

Mr. Ahluwalia said that better data could help spark additional securitizations, or packages of loans that are sliced up and sold to big investors.

Jerry von Dohlen, partner at Broadhaven Capital Partners, a boutique financial-services investment and advisory firm that is also backing PeerIQ, said

“The availability of this data will create opportunities for companies like PeerIQ to improve the functioning and liquidity of many credit markets, including those beyond.”

The irony of Wall Street’s veterans backing the platforms is that it is their old businesses that are being “Disrupted.” Together, Prosper, Lending Club and SoFi have arranged over $12 billion worth of loans since 2007.

Analysts recently estimated that of the $843 billion in consumer online lenders could replace loans outstanding, over $200 billion over the next five to ten years.

Lending Club is worth $7 billion after its IPO last December, and Social Finance Inc., or SoFi, was worth $1.4 billion after a fundraising earlier this year

Dumb First Date Moves

There are several moves we can consider as dumb first date moves. Guys feel they are experts in the Art of Dating but we make a lot of mistakes. Now, they say ‘first impression matters’, it applies in every aspect of life, my dear readers. Let’s check out 9 Dumb first date moves;

1. Expect her to pay

The biggest rule with money and dating is to never let money cause awkwardness. Don’t look at money as a tool in your arsenal…think of it as a bomb you don’t want to go off.
For example, most women will expect you to pay for at least most of the first date. In an age of equal-pay laws, you can be political about this, but what’s the point? Plenty of things in our world are illogical, and you’re not going to get much sympathy talking about how men get a rough deal in society. Assume you’re paying.
Now, some women will resent the notion that they need to be paid for on the first date. So if she insists on splitting the bill or paying for some activity even after you’ve declined her offer once, then let her. It’s that simple.

2. Take her somewhere super expensive

This is a more subtle flaw than expecting her to pay, but it can be just as devastating.
A lot of women will be turned off by an overly-expensive first date. They will be anxious that you will “expect something” at the end of the night for what you spent. Or they will wonder if you have so little going for you that you essentially have to try to buy affection.
Even if she’s not turned off, overspending can be counter-productive. A friend of my ex-girlfriend was being pursued by a rich businessman from Dubai. He flew her around, bought her jewelry, and spared no expense. I asked her how he was in bed. Her response: “Are you kidding? I’m not going to sleep with him. if he’s spending this much to pursue me, I’m going to keep the chase going as long as I can.” Cool, right? Yeah! I thought so too.

3. Over-investing

The Dumb First Date Move number 2 was over-investing financially, and #3 is over-investing in any other way. When I was in college I invited a woman to my place for dinner. I cooked a delicious meal from scratch and organized my apartment to be lit entirely by Christmas Light. It looked beautiful. It was romantic. And it was a complete failure.
Over-investing on the first date sends the same kind of signals as telling a woman you just met what an amazing person she is. It makes most women uncomfortable, because she knows she hasn’t earned the value you are placing on her yet. So your affection isn’t about her – it’s desperation, or a mechanical desire to be with any attractive woman you see. Neither point of view is attractive to most women.

4. Grill her

Don’t bombard her with questions. So many men do this, and I’ve heard lots of women compare the process to “interviewing for a job that I don’t even know if I want.” No one goes to job interviews for fun. But isn’t the point of a first date to get to know each other? Yes – but getting to know each other is as much about chemistry and emotional fit as it is about comparing facts about each other.
Of course, you’ll want to ask some questions – and you should. But questions aren’t the only way to get information. If you tell her something about yourself, she’ll probably reciprocate with the same information. Or use statements or even guesses. Instead of asking her what she studied in college, take a guess. Instead of asking her how she felt on her canoe trip, tell her it sounds very fun and peaceful. And so on.

5. Dinner and a movie

This one won’t kill you completely, but it’s really not ideal. ‘Dinner & a movie’ dates are very conventional and will remind her of every other first date she’s been on instead of revealing your uniqueness. So, it will be a very dumb first date move. First date dinners can be awkward–you can’t touch, and there’s little external source of entertainment. Movies provide almost no opportunity to get to know each other.
Instead, take her somewhere more fun and interactive, like an eatery or a park. You can talk, touch, have fun, and be entertained. And she’ll probably love you for it.

6. Argue about facts or logic

It is okay to disagree with her. In fact, it’s good to do so a couple times, to show her that you’re your own man and not hung up on someone’s approval. But this is best done over subjective topics, where there is no right answer. She says she likes cucumbers; I say they are disgusting and apples are the bomb. And keep it playful.
What you don’t want to do is argue about whether Boko Haram is real, or who invented the electricity. Even if you know she’s wrong, even if you can prove she’s wrong by using Google, even if it’s completely common sense, let it go. If you see her again and develop something with her, there will be plenty of time to show her the truth later.

7. Brag about yourself

You absolutely want her to know about your best qualities. But you want to pass them to her in a way that she finds interesting, not braggy. It is a really dumb first date move out of many dumb first date moves to brag about yourself.
It’s natural to talk about yourself when you’re nervous or feel an awkward pause in the conversation. But it’s OK on dates to let a silence develop and let her fill it once in a while. It’s not like at a bar, where she could wander off any moment and you need to keep the energy level high at least for the first few minutes.
Tell a story about something you’d tell anyway, but fit in ‘incidental’ details for her to ‘discover’ about you.
For example, you could tell a funny story of something that happened at a restaurant, mentioning in passing this took place during you last trip to Paris. If the “Paris” angle is really incidental, the reference will seem incidental. In doing so, you’ve conveyed that you’re a traveler and must have at least a certain amount going for you.

8. Being negative

You’ve probably heard by now not to be negative about your ex-girlfriend, and that’s good advice. But it’s even better not to be negative in general. People who are negative about their family, friends, career, etc., usually aren’t very happy people or much fun to be around.
Just as importantly, guys who complain about everything don’t generally have very good lives. Instead of believing that everyone in your life has randomly done you wrong, she might reason that the common element in all of your complaints is You. Be positive. It’s easy to do and will make a big difference.

9. Making a second date

This might seem paradoxical. Presumably, if you are attracted to each other, you want a second date. That’s true, but you still don’t want to make the second date during the first, that is one of the craziest dumb first date moves.
Flirting and romantic tension is part of the process for a lot of women, and if she knows that she’s earned a second date already, that deprives her of wondering when you’re going to text or call to invite her out again. Press too quickly for a second date and she might start to doubt her attraction to you.
A partial exception – you can make vague long-term plans during any date as long they’re not specific – e.g., “You like Pizza too? Awesome, we should go to that new place on Allen Avenue sometime this summer.” Just don’t get specific or make firm plans.

Regrets

Regrets are feelings of sadness, repentance, or disappointment over something that has happened or been done. Sometimes we turn back, and take a look at what we did, and sometimes what we didn’t do. Then regret lays over us. It’s like guilt, but actually it isn’t. It isn’t like remorse, too. Maybe the desire to impossible, the desire to missed stuff. What do you think about it?

I believe we should talk about regrets, spice things up a bit, get into the real feeling of disappointment and hate. Just the other day I paid a visit to my friend, Ben. Ben and I have been the kind of buddies who hardly spend time together, you know, the occasional meeting up, probably twice or three times a year. Well, I went to see him and we began catching up on lost time. It was mad fun. We drank, he made rice with sauce and turkey meat, we ate to our fill.

But something was off about him. I noticed because I have a funny way of reading people. So, the curious and inquisitive ‘Me’ kicked in…now, bear in mind that this was the first time Ben and I were seeing in five months. The last time we saw in November was on my birthday, the 15th, it was cool though I didn’t expect he’d turn up or even remember. I can recall vividly how happy he was when he came and how he couldn’t stop talking about his angel, Stephanie.

 
With that in mind I asked him after Stephanie and all he did was laugh. After much questioning I got to understand that Stephanie had left him with an excuse that he (my cool friend who could never hurt a fly) had anger issues. Imagine that! I laughed hysterically though because it was so funny. I tried so hard to picture Ben being angry…IMPOSSIBLE!!! So I pushed further and asked him what his problem really was because it was obvious that wasn’t the reason my main man that hardly took alcohol was almost down his fifth bottle of Heineken. Puzzling, don’t you think?

“Regrets are the worst things to feel”, these were his first serious words that evening as he narrated to me how he grieved after Stephanie’s leaving him for weeks then decided to be on his own for the new year. He was actually scaling through his new found rule but things twisted as his dear friend and pal, Glory sent him the phone number of her friend who she promised was awesome, nice, smart and pretty. At first Ben saw that it was a huge mistake but he still decided to give it a try. Come on, there’s no harm in making friends but that was just the beginning of this story…

Her first lead was Princess Tyra, she shot about five more movies and then went to Nigeria to shoot her first collaboration with Genevieve Nnaji in 2007 that launched her career in Nollywood. She produced the current record breaking African movie, ‘Single & Married’ and also has a number of businesses in Accra including a fashion shop called YN’s closet. The shop has latest designer wears from around the world. Yvonne owns YN Productions with movie credits.
Yvonne Nelson launched YN Hairline which introduced lace wigs and human hair collections into Ghana’s market. At the time, the wigs were very new in Ghana. As part of her efforts to give back to society, she launched the ‘Yvonne Nelson Glaucoma Foundation‘ in 2010 to educate the public on the harmful effects of the eye ailment.

Being a household name, Yvonne Nelson has really gone places…oh sorry, I meant to say Queen Yvonne Nelson. She is sexy, feisty, creative, talented and all in all, AWESOME!!! I love you girl…keep it up.

Startup Cogito

Kickstarter is a global crowdfunding platform based in the United States. The company’s stated mission is to help bring creative projects to life.

Cogito is a cloud solution that allows you to easily create electronic forms and customized workflows.

Philippine startup Cogito announced this week it received seed funding of an undisclosed sum from local investment firm Kickstart Ventures.

The startup, founded by Gian dela Rama, Aldrich Abrogena, and Jaana Abrogena, is a software-as-a-service platform that allows businesses to create and automate workflows in minutes, and connect these workflows to cloud services.

“More than the financial resources, Kickstart brings regional exposure, mentoring, and an ‘enterprise’ street cred if you will. In addition, we can learn from the diverse set of startups and founders who are part of the portfolio,” says dela Rama of its investor.

With the addition of Cogito, Kickstart’s investments now number over 20, says Kickstart.

Dela Rama shares they were having a hard time hiring senior developers at their startup so they decided to build a tool that would write code based on defined specifications.

“In essence, the tool built 60 percent of an app so that junior developers, who were easier to find, could then build the remaining 40 percent. Over time, we simplified the product and revamped the interface so that non-programmers can use it. The end result is Cogito as you see it today.”

According to dela Rama, this only means that manual processes are still widespread. That’s what Cogito hopes to change.

Cogito allows companies to convert processes based on paper, email, and spreadsheet into automated workflows.

Dela Rama declines to name their biggest clients, but he says a large multinational consumer goods company is using Cogito for approval and dissemination of its marketing plans and budgets.

Cogito will use most of the funds from Kickstart for business development, marketing, and growing its customer base.

Because Cogito is about moving away from manual processes, dela Rama sees its potential to be used by other countries in the region.

He says the startup is now in talks with a couple of North American companies to deploy Cogito in their organizations.

“The beauty of the internet is that nothing is truly limited by geography. That goes the same for Cogito. The cloud workflow nature of the platform lends itself very well to companies who have dispersed operations – multinationals and companies who serve these multinationals alike.”
