Osas Ighodaro
Osas Ighodaro is a Nigerian American actress, model and presenter.
Early Life
She was born in Bronx, New york to Edo State indigene parents. Her parents are over-protective but they loved their children and always wanted to raise positive and God-fearing children. She have two younger brothers.
Education
Osas Ighodaro believes she have an entrepreneur spirit, because she grew up watching and helping her father run his businesses abroad. She graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism and dual minor degrees in Entrepreneurship and Theatre. She then continued on and earned a Masters of Fine Arts Degree in Acting from the Actor’s Studio Drama School at Pace University.
Career
She has appeared in theatre productions that include, The Colored Museum, Revenge of the King, and in the Audelco Award winning Off-Broadway play Platanos & Collard Greens. Osas Ighodaro has also performed in several films & TV shows which include, Restless City, The Tested, & Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns.
Pageant
Osas Ighodaro became involved with pageants at the age 12 because she had a low self-esteem. In an interview with Punch, she said:
I was not proud of who I was and where I came from, growing up in Bronx, New York. I was skinny and I did not feel beautiful. My parents thought putting me in a modeling school would improve my self-esteem but I found my love in performing arts, I got a postcard to participate in an America co- pageant and out of 147 girls, I was third runner-up. I got $60 for that. I just did it for fun. From there, I won other pageants.
She became the first Nigerian-American to be crowned Miss Black USA in the pageant’s 26-year history.
Stay in Nigeria
Osas Ighodaro moved to Nigeria in August 2012 with an initial plan to spend just 6 months, but got hooked when her aunt got her to audition for a soap opera ‘Tinsel’ and she got the role of Adanna. She has also hosted several shows in Nigeria such as Maltina Dance All Season 8 and she co-hosted the 2014 Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards. And it doesn’t seem like she is plan on leaving Nigeria soon.
Personal Life
Osas Ighodaro got engaged to Tinsel co-star Gbenga Ajibade in August 2014 after dating for one year, and they will be having their traditional wedding on 20th June, 2015 and their white wedding on 4th July, 2015.
