Kunmi Otitoju

Kunmi Otitoju is a Nigerian entrepreneur and fashion designer, Kunmi is the founder of Minku, a fast-growing high-end Afro-centric brand that blends Aso-oke into contemporary Spanish leathers for the production of luxury bags, wallets and other fashion accessories for men and women.

The 30 years old Kunmi, left Nigeria at the age of 17, after her secondary education in Queens College Lagos. She holds two Computer Science degrees – a Bachelor of Science degree with first-class honors from Howard University and a Master of Science degree from Virginia Tech. She interned with investment bank, Goldman Sachs, and worked with a number of international companies before deciding to move to Europe in 2007.

Kunmi has always been interested in Fine Art; she won the Fine Arts prize in her school every year for 3 years. She conceived the idea of producing high-quality leather bags with Aso-oke at the age of 25 in Europe, due to her interest in propagating Nigerian culture and preserving her African identity.

Kunmi founded Minku in 2011; Minku, a fast-growing high-end Afro-centric brand that blends Aso-oke into contemporary Spanish leathers for the production of luxury bags, wallets and other fashion accessories for men and women.

All Minku’s products are hand-made at a workshop in Barcelona, Spain, but they are sold at high-end stores in Nigeria and on Minku website.
Kunmi is inspired by the different textures and colors of the materials she works with. However, she personally designed and maintains Minku’s website while also being part of the earliest adopters of bitcoin in the African market. Minku also supports a charity called the United for Kids Foundation. The foundation raises money for school fees and school supplies for Lagos children with less.

Kunmi has been running Minku for close to four years now and she is willing to go as far as the limits of her creativity will take her. Kunmi Otitoju was listed as one of the 30 most promising young African entrepreneurs by Forbes in 2014.

This brilliant young entrepreneur is set to take on the world.
