DC Comics
These superhero films are set in a fictional shared universe and are based on characters that appear in publications by DC Comics.
The first film released in the shared universe was Man of Steel (2013) which was a reboot of the Superman film series. It will be followed by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and then by eleven additional films which are based on DC Comics’ publications. Warner Bros. has officially announced in development Suicide Squad (2016), which is currently filming, Wonder Woman (2017), The Flash (2018), Aquaman (2018), Shazam (2019), Cyborg (2020), Green Lantern Corps (2020), and a two-part Justice League film, with Part One releasing in 2017, and Part Two in 2019.
The Justice League Part One is set to be released on November 10, 2017 starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Ray Fisher as Cyborg. It is being directed by Zack Snyder. Dwayne Johnson is set to star as Black Adam in Shazam (2019). He may not necessarily appear in Justice League Part One though.
Chris Pine is also to star in Wonder Woman (2017) as Steve Trevor. In the comics, Trevor has been a government agent, an intelligence officer and a super-spy, whose plane crashed on Paradise Island, the isolated homeland of the Amazons. He was nursed back to health by the Amazon princess Diana, who fell in love with him and followed him when he returned to the outside world.
The role he’ll play in the Wonder Woman movie, for now, is under wraps, though the model of Natalie Portman in Thor, Hayley Atwell in Captain America, Amy Adams in Man of Steel, and Maggie Gyllenhaal in The Dark Knight could give you some idea of what he’ll get up to. Chris’ involvement in the film is now official, and the deal which he signed includes opportunities for sequels, according to insiders.
While plot details are of course scarce, there is every reason to believe that Chris’ duties in the film will not be limited to Diana’s love interest, and he will be caught up in plenty butt kicking action as well.
Warner Bros. has also announced a sequel to Man of Steel and a stand-alone Batman film, which is now in development; these both are intended to be released before 2020. All films are being distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
In this advanced age of filming, the stage is set for continuous thrilling adventure, action, sci-fi and even more. DC Comics are going to be delivering lots to us for the next 5 years!
