Dr. Dre’s Rejection
Last week Dr. Dre apologized to every one of the ladies he’s hurt however one ex is calling it insincere and “great PR.”
Singer Michel’le dated the rapper for six years in the ’90s – they even had a youngster together – and says violence was a customary piece of their relationship.
In any case, now that Dr. Dre has his biopic Straight Outta Compton to advance, Michel’le is bringing issue with the timeliness of his expression of remorse.
She’s also troubled with how bland it was, telling the BBC: “I didn’t ask for an open expression of remorse, and I think on the off chance that he is going to apologize he should do it exclusively [and] treat us like we have names.”
Michel’le isn’t the only lady to have been assaulted by Dre. In 1991, he beat and kicked previous TV host Dee Barnes.
Last Friday, Dr. Dre released a statement to the New York Times, saying: “A quarter century back I was a young fellow drinking excessively… I apologize to the ladies I’ve harmed. I profoundly lament what I did… ”
Regardless of Dre’s past – or perhaps because of it – Straight Outta Compton was No. 1 in the box office for the second week in a row.
Michel’le, speaking to BBC Radio 5, says she found Dre’s apology insincere. “I didn’t ask for a public apology, and I think if he is going to apologize, he should do it individually,” she says. “To just group us like we are nothing and nobody — I just don’t think it’s sincere. Treat us like we have names.” Like Barnes, Michel’le also pointed out the convenient timing of Dre’s apology: “He’s selling a movie. I just think it’s good PR at the moment.”
I don’t know about these accusations, but either way I think Dre is really smart; if he is really sincere about the apology, fine, he has remorse. But if he’s just trying to sell, that’s also some good business strategy although it’s not really cool with him spooking people’s emotions. But like I shared previously, who determines right from wrong?
