LABELS IN NIGERIA FROM THE 5TH
5) Empire Mates Entertainment ( E.M.E )
This label was brought to the fore by their former artist Wizkid Ayo Animashaun a.k.a. ‘Star boy’ with his critically acclaimed 2011 “Superstar” album which sold out mehn! under the direct management of Banky W, Segun Demuren (co-owner) and Osagie of M.e.t.a.l Management.
The label was founded by Mr Capable and currently boasts of Mr Capable, sweet-soothing Shaydee who sings for Africa and is sometimes compared to the Black Diamond (Wande Coal) and sexy chocolatey *in Jesse Jagz’s voice* Niyola. They also have an official dj in person of recently married man DJ Xclusive who also dropped an album this year.

Banky so far is the biggest off the label with local and international awards to his brand and mouth-watering endorsement deals from MTN Telecommunications, Samsung Mobile, and Ciroc which I know of. Mr W, according to his Instagram page be balling on a steady especially via Ciroc. The Label boasts of a good management record as evidenced in Wizkid’s career throughout his contract there. Also Mr W’s education and creativity shows in the crisp and quality videos they churn out.
4) Capital Hill Music
Capital Hill Music can be counted as one of the new generation of labels who started reaping the fruits of their labor with a former cute and sexy signee, ‘KEL‘ the “wawa alright” crooner who released her debut project THE INVESTMENT in 2010 and ILLBLISS ‘OGA BOSS’ who won Sound City’s Best Hip hop video presented by Nas the legendary. It is owed and founded by Clarence Peters. The duo of ILLBLISS and comedian singer, THA 
SUSKEPT have a significant say in this label and THA SUSKEPT coincidentally is the official in house producer.
Currently the label boasts of ILLBLISS, CHIDIMMA, THA SUSKEPT, AYOOLA and some new kids on the block like Mz KISS KISS. CHIDIMMA can be said to be the most priced possession with her MTN endorsement deal and a couple of international and local awards and also international features. This label can be linked to cute female artistes in the past and present like my then dream shawdy, KEL and currently CHIDIMMA aka Miss Kedike.

ILL BLISS, the Igbo mafia manages all artistes under this label through his management imprint, THE GORETTI COMPANY as a sharp ‘Nwanna’ and does A&R for the new acts.
3) YBNL NATION
‘Yahoo Boy No Laptop’ Nation are not sleeping on a bike as they keep churning out hits on a weekly or monthly basis. It all started out after OLAMIDE left ‘Coded Tunes’ within the delivery of an album on the I.D CABASA imprint. Then he went ahead to form his current label with DJ ENIMONEY (his younger brother) and some close real friends of his, under which he released YBNL his 2nd studio effort. OLAMIDE a.k.a. Baddo, who is a proud father sits atop this label which has been criticized for lacking a good structure and management for a kind of label of that magnitude.

I can bet that outta 10 hits in Naija currently, YBNL owns 2-3 either from Baddo himself, LIL KESH or ADEKUNLE GOLD.
Dude! That is massive and one man that needs to be given an applause from this label is MR PRODUCER a.k.a. PHEELZ, who has been with them from day 1 as an in house producer. They got other acts like VIKTOH, CHINKO.
OLAMIDE has got endorsement deals with Ciroc, Guiness and Etisalat making him the biggest of this label. I also gotta mention here that he dashes money on twitter probably in his benevolent hours but me haven’t been lucky.
2) SUPREME MAVIN DYNASTY
In Jay’s voice,
“does this C.E.O need an introduction?“
Nah! Especially if you know D’BANJ or listened to MO’HITS when it was still alive. The ‘Man’ behind this revamped label founded on May 2012 is in my own words, “the most interactive celeb in Naija’’, which I believe cannot be debated. Not because I enter his dms like a horny twitter user but because he replies with no effizy. Enough of the introduction and lets hit this.
MAVINS records which is relatively young has lived up to expectations with their artistes like DR SID, MUMMY TIWA SAVAGE, D’PRINCE and the fresh acts. Don Baba J, who is the C.E.O. is the number one in house producer with help from ALTIMS and BABY FRESH. They released a compilation album SOLAR PLEXUS of which when asked by one of the biggest OAP’s in Naija, TOLU TOOLZ on why he chose the name. He replied that he just liked the phrase simple! No long yarns unlike most artistes. Welcome To My Music Monday…
I’m gonna mention their endorsements because almost all of them has, ranging from DON BABA who got with MTN, Loya milk and most recently Johnie Walker. While MUMMY TIWA has with MTN and KONGA, JAZZY also has that. Then the new acts in persons of KOREDE, DI’JA and REEKADO are pitched with glo and DR SID on MTN.
1) Chocolate City Music
C.B.N, pronounced as spelt, because it certainly carries weight my brother! Where do I start from?
That CHOCOLATE CITY MUSIC is under CHOCOLATE CITY GROUP which is one of the biggest entertainment conglomerates in Africa. The music branch is currently headed by Chairman himself, MI ABAGA.
Also worthy of mention is that it was founded in 2005 by Messrs AUDU MAIKORI, PAUL OKEUGO and YAHAYA MAIKORI. Currently a merger of Choc city and Loopy music which saw AUDU leave as President and the Chairman season taking over.
The most exciting news of this label is that JESSE JAGZ a.k.a. Emperor Jagz has returned home. Then also it is currently home to old and new Loopy acts like PRYSE, RUBY GYANG, MILLI etc.
This label also got artistes with endorsement deals like the Chairman’s own in Glo Nigeria, Martel drink, Lagos State govt while ICE PRINCE got with Etisalat Nigeria and Skye bank e.t.c.
Several reasons got this label this position starting with being international (Kenya and South Africa), fighting Copyright infringement in terms of digital sales and illegal downloads, having both an A&R dept and management dept like our foreign counterparts.
