Christians all over the world are this weekend marking the crucifixion, death and resurrection of Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Not to sound too religiius though but hey! try putting aside the chocolate eggs and overt commercialism for one moment and take a deeper look at the historical context and real meaning behind the Easter holiday with new biblical epic A.D.
In line with that, there is a new biblical epic movie premiering this Easter on BET (DSTV).
In the movie, the fateful demise of Jesus makes a massive impact on his disciples, his mother, Mary, and key political and religious leaders of the era, whose entire worlds were completely turned upside down in an instant.
The growing church brings challenges for disciples Peter and John and Mary Madgalene who are pushed to the limits as they face trials and imprisonments, persecutions and punishments.
Hunted by Temple authorities led by High Priest Caiaphas and Roman soldiers under orders from Pontius Pilate, they try to understand the God-given power granted to them as they transition from the sorrow of Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice to the awe-inspiring wonder of the resurrection and beyond.
In the movie, a talented international cast does great justice to “the greatest story ever told” including Greta Scaachi (Mother Mary), Juan Pablo Di Pace (Jesus), Richard Coyle (Caiphas), Vincent Regan (Pontius Pilate), Adam Levy (Peter), Emmett J. Scanlan (Saul), Babou Alieu Ceesay (John), Chipo Chung (Mary Magdalene), Cesare Taurasi (Judas), James Callis (Antipas), Joanne Whalley (Claudia, wife of Pilate), and Jodhi May (Leahbi CaiphasCaiphas.
This movie premieres exclusively on BET (DStv Premium, channel 129) on Easter Monday (Monday 6 April) at 8:55PM. According to the producers, the epic drama takes viewers on a spiritual, educational and uplifting journey, starting with the pivotal moment of Jesus’ death and resurrection, and focusing on the later chapters of Biblical history, including the immediate aftermath of the crucifixion.
You might want to sit down and see this one and oh yea!, in addition to the regular “The Passion of Christ”.
Merry Easter People.
