Hadiza Blell, populary known as Di`Ja or Afro Di`ja is an artist, songwriter, fashion designer and model. Her father is from Sierra Leon and her mother is a northern Nigerian. She has a double degree in Biology and Psychology and aside from being a bookie, she has got the voice and a dope attitude that would keep your eyes fixed to your TV screen.
Di`Ja’s music is pop and Reggae infused R&B, and her music career blossomed in 2008, when she got nominated for Best Urban/ R&B single at the 2009 Canadian Radio Music Awards because of her first single Rock Steady. In 2013, she secured a record deal with Don Jazzy and on February 14, 2014 the deal got publicized.
She has since then released several songs under Mavin records which includes: Yaro in which she honoured her roots by infusing Hausa and Krio. She slayed Dorobucci with her high pitched vocals that would always force you to mimic her voice tone and diva attitude when singing alone. Also Adaobi and Awww are magnificient pieces. Di`Ja draws inspiration from legends like Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, Tracy Chapman, Diana Ross, and the Everly Brothers, and new artists including Alicia Keys, Mary J Blige, Beyonce, Madonna, and Tupac.
When asked to describe herself, Di`Ja said,
I am optimistic and I learn about myself through my interactions with people. I guess what people don’t know is, I’m a social loner. I love people; I love to interact but I also find joy in my solitude. I like being alone with my thoughts, almost like a one-man party in my head.
Di`Ja, the pretty young Mavin artists has grown into everyone`s skin and she is fast becoming one of the most interesting musicians. So, I believe I have earned the right to say that she has got talent, beauty, and attitude and that`s a powerful combo.
