For the more traditional careers that apply to the 99% of us, I believe there is one key skill required to achieve the money or power of the 1%. Consider what abilities would be most valuable if your task was to convince your boss to provide you with a pay raise.

If you are in a discussion with a valuable client, what skills are necessary to retain the account or create favorable terms? In your personal life, how would you increase your travel budget when your partner is against it, obtain a refund after the warranty expired, or make an appeal to the most attractive person you’ve ever met to go on a first date with you? Music improves our general health state, it has a special power to move us and stir our emotions also. Anyone who has ever wiped tears away from their eyes listening to their favorite sad song will know how powerful simple notes and chords can be.

Listening to a song can have a real effect on various parts of the brain, studies show that areas responsible for aspects, such as memory and vision, can ‘light up’ in response to music.

“There’s a very wide range of reactions in the body and mind to music, and brain imaging studies have shown that various parts of the brain may be activated by a piece of music,” says Dr Victoria Williamson, lecturer in psychology at Goldsmith’s College, London.

Everyone reacts to music in different ways; some listen to music for a boost on a tough a day, while some might use music to keep awake. One individual may love heavy metal for example, while another is happiest listening to Mozart.

Whatever your preference, a 2011 Canadian study, published in Nature Neuroscience, has shown that plugging in to your favorite music could help melt away a bad mood.

Researchers at McGill University in Montreal showed that listening to pleasurable music of any description induced ‘musical chills’, which triggered the release of the feel-good chemical dopamine.

Focus

Music may even be able to help you concentrate. A new ‘digital tonic’ called Ubrain, which can be downloaded onto smartphones, claims to be able to help people focus, energize, wake up as well as relax.

The process uses two different beats in each ear to create a third ‘perceived’ beat (a binaural beat), which can stimulate certain activity in the brain.

“By helping the brain cortex to generate specific brain waves, we can induce different states of alertness, depending on what we aim to do,” explains Paris-based clinical psychologist Brigitte Forgeot.

MusicPick up the pace

Listening to certain music could actually help you run faster. The best choices for exercise are up-beat songs that match the tempo of your running stride.

A study at Brunel University in West London has shown that music can help increase endurance by as much as 15 per cent, helping to lower the perception of effort during exercise, as well as increasing energy efficiency by between one and three per cent.

Better mental health

Music can be an effective and positive treatment for people dealing with mental health conditions.

“There are two distinct ways music therapy is used: either as a means of communication and self-expression or for its inherent restorative or healing qualities,” says Bridget O’Connell.

Someone who is very withdrawn may find that music can act as an outlet for expressing things that they’re unable to put into words. It can also act as a stimulus to awaken buried memories or evoke emotional responses that may take weeks to achieve with talking therapies.

De-stress

Music can be a great pick-me-up for when you are feeling stressed.
According to 2011 figures from the mental health charity ‘Mind’, nearly a third of people plugged into their music players to give them a mood boost about work, and almost one in four said that they find listening to music on the way to the workplace helps them de-stress.

Paul Farmer, the charity’s CEO, backs up the statistics by saying that the therapeutic benefits of listening to music are well-known.
Tuning in to one of your favourite songs can be incredibly soothing and help to reduce anxiety.

Patient care

Music can actually have a significant positive impact on patients with long-term illnesses, such as heart disease, cancer and respiratory conditions.

Numerous trials have shown that music can help lower heart rate, blood pressure and help relieve pain, anxiety and improve patient quality of life.

“Music can be incredibly useful for somebody who is in a situation where they have lost a lot of control from their external environment – say they are in hospital for a long period of time with a serious illness and less able to move around,” says Dr Williamson.

The benefits in listening to music is inexhaustible, just plug in your head phones and get lost in music.

Regret is the worst feeling an individual can face, to keep revisiting times when they “could have” done something, the situation was out of hand or else they “would have,” now realizing that they “should have.” Successful individuals do not give themselves the opportunity to regret. This is due to two reasons: either they take the opportunity, no matter the odds, and turn the tables around; or they move on and find another opportunity that awaits. Regret is never going to serve anyone.

“I have no other options,” “I’ve done all I can”

There are always options and opportunities at hand, and successful people know how to create their own way to these opportunities.

LOS ANGELES – Four of the nearly 50 self-driving cars now rolling around California have gotten into accidents since September, when the state began issuing permits for companies to test them on public roads.

Two accidents happened while the cars were in control; in the other two, the person who still must be behind the wheel was driving, a person familiar with the accident reports told The Associated Press.

Three involved Lexus SUVs that Google Inc. outfitted with sensors and computing power in its aggressive effort to develop “autonomous driving,” a goal the tech giant shares with traditional automakers. The parts supplier Delphi Automotive had the other accident with one of its two test vehicles.

Google and Delphi said their cars were not at fault in any accidents, which the companies said were minor.

Since September, any accident must be reported to the state Department of Motor Vehicles. The agency said there have been four, but would not comment about fault or anything else, citing California law that collision reports are confidential.

The person familiar with the accident reports said the cars were in self-driving mode in two of the four accidents, all of which involved speeds of less than 10 mph. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the reports publicly.

Five other companies have testing permits. In response to questions from the AP, all said they had no accidents. In all, 48 cars are licensed to test on public roads.

The fact that neither the companies nor the state have revealed the accidents troubles some who say the public should have information to monitor the rollout of technology that its own developers acknowledge is imperfect.

John Simpson, a longtime critic of Google as privacy project director of the nonprofit Consumer Watchdog, pointed out that the company’s ultimate goal is a car without a steering wheel or pedals. That would mean a person has no power to intervene if a car lost control, making it “even more important that the details of any accidents be made public — so people know what the heck’s going on.”

A chief selling point for self-driving cars is safety. Their cameras, radar and laser sensors give them a far more detailed understanding of their surroundings than humans have. Their reaction times also should be faster. Cars could be programmed to adjust if they sense a crash coming — move a few feet, tighten the seat belts, honk the horn or flash the lights in hope of alerting a distracted driver.Self-driving cars

A higher priority so far is teaching them to avoid causing a serious accident that could set public and political acceptance of the technology back years, said Raj Rajkumar, a pioneer of the technology with Carnegie Mellon University.

In the October accident involving Delphi, the front of its 2014 Audi SQ5 was moderately damaged when, as it waited to make a left turn, another car broadsided it, according to an accident report the company shared with AP. The car was not in self-driving mode, Delphi spokeswoman Kristen Kinley said.

Google, which has 23 Lexus SUVs, would not discuss its three accidents in detail.

The accidents are not Google’s first: In a briefing with reporters a year ago, the leader of Google’s self-driving car program acknowledged three others between when the company first sent cars onto public roads several years ago — without the state’s official permission — and May 2014.

In a written statement, Google said that since September, cars driving on streets near its headquarters in Mountain View had “a handful of minor fender-benders, light damage, no injuries, so far caused by human error and inattention.”

Google said that while safety is paramount some accidents can be expected, given that its cars have gone “the equivalent of over 15 years of typical human driving,” or approximately 140,000 miles.

The national rate for reported “property-damage-only crashes” is about 0.3 per 100,000 miles driven, according to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In that context, Google’s three in about 140,000 miles may seem high. As the company pointed out, however, perhaps 5 million minor accidents are not reported to authorities each year, so it is hard to gauge how typical Google’s experience is.

Three other states have passed laws welcoming self-driving cars onto their roads. Regulators in Nevada, Michigan and Florida said they were not aware of any accidents. Self-driving cars getting dinged in California

As self-driving cars proliferate, others issues will arise that human drivers have dealt with for decades, notably who’s liable for an accident. Each test car is required to have $5 million insurance.

Interest in accidents will remain high, especially if the self-driving car is at fault, said Bryant Walker Smith, a law professor at the University of South Carolina who has written extensively on the technology.

For a lot of reasons, Smith said, more might be expected of these test vehicles and of the companies that are deploying them and the drivers that are supervising them than we might expect of a 17-year-old driver in a 10-year-old car.

Some say you fall in love three times throughout your lifetime. The last one is supposed to be the person you belong with—the one you marry and spend the rest of your years with. This person is also called the “love of your life.”

These process isn’t always smooth for most people, people make mistakes, breakups happen, and divorce happens. But what is consistent among it all is that no one truly gets over their greatest love. This person pervades our thoughts, haunts our happiness, will always carry a piece of our heart and is the standard for anyone else we decide to date.

1. You are fully emotionally invested in him.

For every one of us there will be something different that helps us in getting out of ourselves, that pushes our button in a very positive way. And the funniest thing is it doesn’t really cost us a thing and it’s always all around us maybe we’re just so fixated on other things that we feel will bring us happiness.

The things that help us in getting out of ourselves are usually magical in some way- a particular view or person, a pet or a child, a favourite book or film that we turn to, to help us recharge. It might be a state of mind that we arrive at through some ritual such as going to a place of worship or meditating. It might be a certain piece of music that lightens our heart. For some it may be doing charity work or being a volunteer (there’s nothing like doing something for others or for a greater good to take you out of yourself).

Whatever it is, make sure you have it, know it and use it. No good it being a piece of music that always lifts your mood if you don’t play it occasionally.

I guess we all need something in our life that takes us out of ourselves and perhaps, stops us taking ourselves too seriously.

Whether it’s a dog, a child or a chat with a lonely person at a day centre, there needs to be something that makes you realize that all the stuff that’s getting to you isn’t that important and reminds you of the simple pleasures in life.

I dated an entrepreneur when I was 19, and it lasted for just a month. I guess I wasn’t brave enough; I didn’t quite understand him. Over the years, I learnt better, so I will share with you a few insights into the world of an entrepreneur and that will improve your chances of unlocking the key to their heart. 1. Time Factor:

One great factor in an entrepreneur’s life is time; he cherishes it and he expects people around him to do the same otherwise he views you as a loser. An entrepreneur is essentially on call 24/7 because his business is his first love. He has to nurture it, care for it and maintain it.

As someone who is inspired to date one, you have to be able to understand their drive and determination. Entrepreneurs usually end up with people who are also independent which allows them the space to pursue their dreams.

2. Financial Resources

Over a period of time, rejection can get to them and damage their pride, making them depressed. I attended Our Lady Of Apostles Private School, Yaba. Lagos. I also attended Mater Christi Catholic Girls’ High School, Igede-Ekiti. Ekiti State and went to college at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka where I graduated with B Sc. in Mass Communication.

That’s quite cool dear; anyway I’m sure we all want to know if you have special something, something in your life. You know, like a special someone?

Lol… I am pretty much single.

Eligible bachelors did you read that, make your moves now before it is too late. Well, the last time we were with you, Purple Creation was your company but we’ve been hearing that you now own something else please enlighten us.

Yeah! Purple Creation was the name of my company. We would not say we changed it. We’ll rather say we moved on to a better position. Purple Creation was a great deal because it gave me the opportunity to groom myself in event management and even personal relationships. I met a lot of passionate young models who craved for a wonderful platform. I saw them as my responsibility. But then a challenge came up in 2013 (really long story).

It crippled everything we had worked for. Sponsorships weren’t coming and the ones that came were very lame with terrible conditions. We lost everything including teammates. It was that bad. It was devastating though. I believe every company passed through their hard times and that was ours. But then, giving up was not an option.

That was how a more personalized brand came up. A brand we can connect with and I’ll say it has been amazing. It is tagged ‘Ollie Creation’.ollie creation

It was a great one with Purple. We had about 4 or 5 awards in a year. We were the most recognized brand in Fashion and modeling. It was awesome. But then it’s all past glory because a brand bigger than Purple is here to stay.

Hmm… since January when you launched what have you achieved with Ollie Creation?

Ollie Creation has been able to get selected people to work with. We have a running site – www.imodelafrica.com, where a lot has been going on. We also produced our first winner, Ekwaseh Yusuf. It was a great moment for us.

We were so excited. By June, Ekwaseh will be having her major photo shoot. We hope to move far off than this.

I spoke with a male friend and I asked him what men find attractive in women, you will be surprised at the things he revealed.

DivorceDivorce the lingering evil. Divorce is when a couple decide they have had enough of each other and have their marriage dissolved by a court. I would ask why get married in the first place when you will get divorced? No one ever really plans to get a divorce in the first place, that is if you think of it critically. Getting through a divorce is a bitter experience for a partner that wants to fight for the marriage, and more painful for the kids who will have to answer questions from school mates who are in the know.

However marriage is a complex thing or it is not. it is not easy keeping two adults from different walks of life together and ask them to be eternally committed to each other till death do them part. Sometimes the union sees old age while other times the marriage crash. What I am asking is can we be adult enough to try to make it work? Painfully, it could be beyond us. Marriage is a beautiful adorable thing…until it’s not. when kids are involved it is even harder.

 

Things to know about divorce

(1) It is not relief or it is… it will never feel like those days you have to enjoy that big bed alone because your partner went on a trip. Relief because you got what you think you needed.

(2) When the kid(s) are sick and you are alone, you will wish their other parent were there. those times are painful.

(3) When you are divorced and single, you might tend to be heartbroken and depressed, especially if you are the type that wanted to fight for the life of your marriage.

(4) You will miss your wedding ring an what it represented and your wedding memories becomes taunting.

(5)You will have several thoughts that will earn you a high blood pressure. You will think over those good times that will longer be sweet memories but memories that will gnaw at your heart.

(6) You will hurt when the kids feel the pains of that worst form of break up.

(7) You may get paranoid about loving. Depression may set in.

 

Besides these listed above, going through a divorce doesn’t give the best feeling there is in the world. It is felt in the heart in a hard and painful way. When the man you had a child looks you in the eye and says I want a divorce it can break your heart. When a woman you love looks you in the eye and say “I realized we can’t be together anymore” it can stop your pulse. In the midst of divorce, hatred, hard feelings, bad memories and depression sets in. The kids who grew up in a broken home. Having to wake up to that painful experience hurts.

I have known Lisa for a decade now and she is not over her parent’s divorce. She missed lectures those periods and cried at any given time. She wished her parent’s could work it out and stay together for her sake. Lisa hasn’t forgiven her father for  living them. She is even still scared of getting committed. With her younger sister it’s not the same.  She is a stronger person. Why divorce? Rewind to that day in your beautiful dress, all attention was on and before God you both said “For better for worse till death do us part,”

Healthy – Who’s Healthier; Tall or Short? Can your height hurt your heart? Short men may have a greater risk of developing coronary artery disease than taller guys, suggests a new study from the University of Leicester.

The average American male is 5-foot-9½. For every 2½ inches shorter you are, your risk of heart disease spikes by nearly 14 percent, says study coauthor Steve Burgess, Ph.D.

The researchers also discovered that of the 180 genes known to influence height, many of the ones that contribute to shorter stature also play a role in higher levels of LDL, or “bad,” cholesterol and triglycerides. Both of those factors contribute to the development of coronary plaque, which can raise your risk of heart disease, says coauthor Tim Assimes, M.D., Ph.D.

Another possibility behind the link: Shorter men tend to have smaller hearts, so the smaller blood vessels have a higher chance of getting clogged. Healthy – Who’s Healthier; Tall or Short?

Although this may sound like grim news for short guys, Burgess points out that individual risk doesn’t exactly skyrocket. For example, a 50-year-old average-height man in decent shape already has about a 5 percent risk of having a heart attack before age 60. With the added risk factored in for short men, a 5-foot-5 guy who is the same age ends up with about a 6 percent risk.

And, hey, it’s not all doom and gloom—the researchers point out that shorter people actually have lower cancer risks, possibly because tall folks simply have more cells, meaning there’s a higher chance for cancer-causing mutations.

You can’t do anything about your height. But you can seriously lower your odds of developing heart disease by eating well, exercising regularly, and avoiding cigarettes, Burgess says.

And don’t forget to pay regular visits to your doc so he or she can check out your blood sugar and blood pressure levels. This information can be used to assess your overall chance of heart disease, so you can take preventive actions if you find you’re at a higher risk, says Dr. Assimes.
